I mean next May maybe but this one? Not so much. I’ve written off my end of July holiday too, as depressing as it is. Disney gave me a refund when I didn’t even ask for it so the writing is on the wall for me and I’m taking it as a sign.
My poor son works within Disney and hes not looking to go back america until end of Oct at the earliest 😥 so is just living of his savings until then , thank God he got to come home

I think returning to work for anyone is going to be strange and anxiety inducing for all. Everyone has their own personal set of circumstances , I have every sympathy with those of you that need to shield, that’s a different scenario.
However there are people that think it’s their right to stay at home and be paid by the government and will think of every excuse not to go back. These same people are happy to have garden parties, celebrate in the street and generally not follow the rules. We cannot afford for this to go on for months and months, at some stage people will need to take the ‘uncomfortable’ steps to try and gain some normality and for many of us it means going back to work.

I have to say I am worried. I’m worried my daughter will go to nursery and catch it. She’s 2. You can’t distance them. Or I’ll go to work (school) and bring it home. I’m frightened for my daughter. It might sound irrational but 🤷‍♀️
I don’t think it is irrational, as a nation we have all taken on board how serious it is. The government did a good job at making (the majority) of us frightened and scared. They now need to do a decent job of making small steps to recover, they haven’t started this part very well at all.

Cant remember who said it on the last post, about having lots of questions for their childs school. They have as much idea what's going on as you atm. Let them figure it out and let you know what they know when they know it. Trying to get info out of them will just take up more time that they do not have right now and trust they will keep you updated.
That was me and when i said i had many questions, i meant when they contact me. I have absolutely zero desire to contact them, i would happily not hear from them until next year.
But if they expect my child back in their setting then i will expect answers to my questions.

I've told all my clients (house cleaning) that I'm going to wait two weeks to see the fallout of the latest events before I go back into their homes to work.
I'm so confused by it all, if we can't visit family in their homes how can it be ok for me to go into the 8 different homes of mostly vulnerable people I clean for in a week?

We have a new housing development being built not far from us (Taylor wimpey) I can already hear the ground workers digging. I hope they were given some notice and didn't get a phone call last night after the announcement.

Im baffled as to why teachers think they have a right to refuse to go back to work. I mean all the frontline workers have got on with it since day one and have fought battles we know nothing about, working through the peak of the virus and making sure we are looked after, can eat and drink have shopping delivered etc. And i dont just mean nurses and doctors, all the care work staff on minimum wages cleaners in hospital on minimum wage bin men delivery drivers etc not once have i heard them moan or make a massive deal out of it. Not heard of any unions/individuals saying they shouldnt be expected to work or anything. Now teachers think its okay to throw a paddy because they have to go back to work. Its a pandemic the risk is always gonna be there. Get back to work and do your jobs for gods sake! Of course those shielding wont be expected to work but the rest need to get a bloody grip and get on with it. Seriously 🤣🤣
I don’t think it’s fair to say teachers are throwing a paddy about working. And it’s not going back to work, teachers have never stopped working. We split time between going in and working from home, and have done since schools closed in March. We haven’t been furloughed, nor been sat at home getting paid to do nothing. Teachers have worked more than ever during these last few weeks and would give anything to get back to normal, with our classes. It’s just not safe and impossible to social distance and therefore keep ourselves safe. Parents are (rightly so) worried about their children being in a school setting, so why is that different for teachers? Are we not allowed to be anxious about returning?

“I ‘weely ‘wove you all” at 11PM

and hungover ratty argumentative twats the next morning, up until it’s acceptable to get drunk again 😂

bloody love it.

Give it a week or two and we will have a second peak. There was no clear guidance last night and apparently motorways have seen a huge increase in traffic this morning as people are turning up for work
And that's ok as far as the government are concerned, because it seems clear that they're still aiming for herd immunity. They're just loosening things a little, encouraging the poor sods who have to/need to, back out into communities,so that the second wave can start. The NHS now has the capacity (but still not always adequate PPE but they won't let that stop them now), and without the imminent prospect of a vaccine this is the only way. People are quite literally modern day cannon fodder. It's horrific, but typically a very 'Tory' strategy so I don't know why there is any surprise.

I don't think most teachers want the extra long holidays. In fact most teachers haven't stopped working I know I haven't but it's just the logistics of trying to organise everything. I work in secondary school so won't have to go back just yet but logistically I couldn't see how we could keep social distancing and that's with older students. Never mind primary school pupils

I do think that Reception and year 1 are important years though as they set the foundation for the basics of reading and writing. Older kids it's not so important if they don't know what a fronted adverbial or how to work out percentages as that can be caught up on.

If you work in a school and chosen not to go in/supposedly shielding should you be getting full pay? I would have thought schools would only be paying SSP?
Who knows!! I work in a school and was sent home to shield on march 24th. Not heard anything since. I emailed them last Tuesday and no response yet. It's actually starting to wind me up and I'm appalled that no one has even attempted to contact me.

I wish they'd just admit we're all going to get the virus, and that we'll continue to peak/lockdown/peak/lockdown for the next god knows how many months. They failed to contain the outbreak so surely that's the reality now?? So we might as well all just bleeping go back to normal.
I'm depressed. 😔

This is why teachers have a great deal of apprehension about going back. (In no way am I singling the original poster out.) Teacgers are being asked to go back into a setting where they aren’t even necessarily worried about their own, or their families safety but your children’s safety. Of course there will be questions, of course parents will require reassurance that it’s safe and right now schools have no answers and can’t provide assurances. I say this as a parent, a TA and wife of a primary teacher. Every teacher I know wants nothing more than to be back teaching in a classroom. BUT what happens if a child catches it and dies? That’s going to be on us and our school. The parents would blame us, not the government, us and that’s a horrible responsibility to take.

It’s got nothing to do with not wanting to go in, wanting a paid holiday 🙄, or in many cases our own safety. In most conversations the over whelming concern is for the safety of your kids and that of the wider school community.

What’s everyone’s thoughts about school? My reception aged daughter potentially go back on 1st June - I assume with social distancing in place (good luck) and other measures to help. So in theory could still be in with approx 15 other children for half the week maybe?

I’m not sure how I feel about it, how safe she would be or whether it’s the right thing to do! Surely, it would be safer for her to go to my parents (70 & 65 in good health, who are not going out or seeing anyone) then be in school. Although I know this is against guidance and I have followed this to the letter so far.

Yours, thoroughly confused person!
Mine won’t be going back, my child’s not been used as a ‘guinea pig’ to see what happens, I also think it’s extremely cruel to think 4/5/6 year olds will social distance.. they share toys, sit together at dinner, love socialising at that age, play together, have carpet time.. is boris going to expect all children to wash there hands after touching every toy, or for schools to disinfect every single toy before another child touches it.. ridiculous it isnt thought through at all, I personally think secondary/high school kids should of been sent back first

There's a housing development across the road from us and they haven't stopped working on the site once since lockdown. It's been business as usual for them by the looks of it (though it does seem everyone there is working alone in their own crane etc. I've not seen any of the people there anywhere net each other).

I think most countries have been quite clear that that is the reality though?

two weeks into easing restrictions we could be in full lockdown again 🤷‍♀️ It’s anyone’s guess.

Unless you’re trump, according to trump it will vanish soon so we’re all grand.

I’m starting to feel very down too I don’t even think it’s because of lockdown I think it’s just because of the media and boris and everything been a ‘what if if’ feel like my heads going from 0-100 after every conference the government do, I’m one of those people who prefer to know the truth then be tiptoed around

Blimey. I guess for them they are able to continue safely, that’s a good thing.
