Id like to see figures for those who have tested positive and recovered.... for some reassurance that I *might* be ok if I should get it rather than feeling like it's certain death for me and my family 😕

It definitely isn't certain death and I don't think anything has painted it that way, I'm pretty sure on a news feature the other day it only had a 2% ICU rate for under 50s.

the person who works on my team and tested positive is now recovered and was back to work this week. It’s an awful virus but not a certain death by any means.

I said ' feeling like' and actually all I've read anywhere has been about death!

The death rate is pretty low, they think it is under 1% so while it is awful for those that do die the majority of fit and healthy younger people don't have anything to worry about directly.

I’ve always liked Timpsons have used them for phone repairs in the past.
A fab company!! Well run and investing so it can survive slowdowns rather than running for shareholders and during an inevitable recession begs for a tax payer handout to guarantee shareholders proffits. They help so many people that need a job

That death figure is shocking but it will be much higher; I predict 1000 by the end of the week and a hard lockdown next week. I worry for people I know. What if I turn on the news and see their face/name?

Charles looks exhausted:(

I agree. I read that Italians were being wilfully irresponsible before lockdown (with socialising, not sure about the work situation, also not sure if the government were being lax) - that gives me hope that our figures will only be as bad as theirs, which are awful enough. But if our relatively relaxed lockdown with non-essential staff going to work continues I agree that we could end up worse
I am half Italian and my dad would never do what he was told. They have an attitude of rules don’t apply to me. Coupled with the fact that families are very close and grown up children go home few times a week to eat it’s no surprise their figures are high. My sister who lives in Geneva came home couple weeks ago to look after our 93 year old mother and she has same attitude multiple visits to 3 supermarkets in a day etc. It’s no wonder their numbers are high don’t think we will see the same numbers

Awful. I’ve just had the biggest wave of panic I’ve had in ages. Must go ground myself some how.
It's ok, just remember this was predicted and would be much worse if the numbers were higher than expected.... we are approaching the peak and will be heading back down soon, I hope that brings you some comfort.

I'm finding Yahoo finance interesting for something different by talking about the economy going forward.

I sound like a broken record but automation is such a big thing, before this we were already facing a perfect storm with automation replacing white-collar jobs at an alarming rate. This will hugely accelerate it I think and lots of jobs won't come back 😕
They have 'robots' testing people for Covid 19 in Spain! Apparently they can test 80,000 people a day.

Trump keeps talking about recovering the economy and jobs and life being better than before...how?
Automation will hit industries like food/service and the young and Hispanic make up the majority of workers.
I suppose you could argue white collar workers affected are more likely to be able to move further for work/travel and are educated to a higher level/degree. Automation is affecting unlikely white collar industries though so very uncertain times.

It's a scary future beyond what we are going through now.

I have never been one to be traumatised by the news events, I am a very laid back person, we are doing what we are told in our house, staying in and only shopping where necessary. However today 2 stories really made me wonder if I (or we as a nation) was doing enough (and got me a bit upset).

An old school friend of mine is in hospital with conformed CV19 - they thought it was another bout of pneumonia, so didn't take him in or test him, however he was taken in last night when he took a turn for the worse. Currently on a ventilator in intensive care. He is 44 and a very fit MMA fighter.

Secondly - the wife of someone my husband works with has lost her baby at 22 weeks pregnant. She had to keep it inside her for a further 11 days cos the local hospital couldn't get her in with the appropriate team to get her to deliver. I am utterly heartbroken for them. It's hard enough for that to happen without having to wait that long.

My daughters best friend is in slow labour, and they wont see her until she can't stand the pain anymore. They sent her home from hospital this morning at 2cm dilated.

:(

My aunt tested positive for it. She’s fully recovered now at home.

Today's figures are insaine.
On a positive note - I've been to my local supermarket, less busy than usual, fully stocked, hygiene measures have been upped and everyone was careful to keep their 2m distance.

I think the big thing now is algorithms can replace so many people that use a computer. From accounting, hr, to software engineers and legal. Like using an algorithm to scan hundreds of documents and having 2 solicitors check the results where as in the past it would have taken team a month to review all the documents.

Lots of jobs haven't been lost at the moment as the two systems are run in parallel to check the algorithms results. But even before this people were expecting jobs to be replaced at an ever increasing speed. What was once the job of a team of 5 might in the future need just 1 person that's assisted with technology.

Blue collar workers faced this a long time ago, but now we could be on the verge of a second industrial revolution. Lot of people incorrectly picture mechanised robots taking jobs when in fact now it's algorithms and lines of code.

Bit of shocking news from Ireland today

Dr. Tony Holohan, the chief medical officer who has been co-ordinating the COVID19 response here in Ireland is in hospital for tests unrelated to COVID19

Update: the tests came back fine but no comments on his health situation

poor guy, id bet the stress of all thats going on is probably a factor

he didn’t look well last night, I really hope he’s ok, apparently he’s hoping to be back at work tomorrow.

I’m really impressed with him, I hope he is back soon
