The jump in figures is shocking. I know they’ve warned us to expect increases up to the peak but such a big jump is awful. Do you think they’ll tighten up lockdown sooner rather than later or not until they’ve seen the impact of lockdown in a week or so?

Have you seen the men dressed as Spider-Man for their daily exercise hour so it entertains the children as they run past houses?
Imagine not knowing about it and Googling hallucinations as symptoms of Coronavirus 😂
I'm wetting myself laughing!😂

I wonder if we’ll lock down more now. I suspect as shocking as it is, the CMO and like will be expecting this kind of number. Doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking to see.

just echoes back that what we are doing now effects everything 2 weeks later -if only 50% of us are adhering to lockdown, I wonder when they’re going to ramp it up- maybe they’re waiting for boris to feel better to announce stricter measures?
They will be waiting to see if this lockdown is working first, we’ve not been in lock down for 2 weeks yet and won’t see if its making a difference until at least next week. I hope all the people that didn’t care and went out on the weekend before lockdown day are feeling bad about there choice now

I thought the government would stick to reviewing it after 3 weeks to avoid losing people’s trust, but with these numbers I would expect them to enforce a stricter lockdown sooner

More and more people are starting to emerge around where I live, the rural walking areas are packed and the shops are getting busier. People need a new reminder.

Do you think so? I might be wrong but I don’t think any country has surpassed 1000 in a day yet (though Italy has been close with over 900)

We may well get to those figures but I think either way it’s terrifying. Following Italy could mean the daily death toll being in the 800-900s which is scary enough. It looks like we’ll be losing thousands of people this week alone :(
I think our guidance has been so unclear. The fact ministers are still saying “go to work if you can’t do your job at home” makes it seem that you can even if you aren’t a key worker. Then the next minute we’re told only key workers. I think the confusing, unclear messages could be detrimental in this country.

It is just a coincidence, there are simulations for these types of scenarios all the time. Countries are always preparing for the next pandemic, they were expecting another strain of a coronavirus and also a new influenza strain to happen at any time for a while now.
Jesus if this is the international response to a virus they supposedly have been anticipating, I would seriously be worried about an event that wasn’t on their radar 😳🤣

I'm finding Yahoo finance interesting for something different by talking about the economy going forward.

I sound like a broken record but automation is such a big thing, before this we were already facing a perfect storm with automation replacing white-collar jobs at an alarming rate. This will hugely accelerate it I think and lots of jobs won't come back 😕

I agree. I read that Italians were being wilfully irresponsible before lockdown (with socialising, not sure about the work situation, also not sure if the government were being lax) - that gives me hope that our figures will only be as bad as theirs, which are awful enough. But if our relatively relaxed lockdown with non-essential staff going to work continues I agree that we could end up worse

You know people have been getting kids to paint rainbow pictures and put in the window? Well locally people have done a thing where you pop a teddy bear in the window....for the little ones to see as they’re out walking. Of course there’s always one person who has to take it a bit far, right? So my husband brought down this huge bleeping teddy bear from the loft that we won in a raffle years ago, and has placed it in the drivers seat of our car out front. The amount of people walking past who have just stopped, stared, peered in, stopped again, then moved on is priceless! I can see their thought process like “Is that a teddy? Why is it there? A real teddy? Why? Is that for real? Weird. Oh well, worlds gone mad, move on”.

I’m not a fan of these fund raising pages. They originally wanted 4K so should have closed it when it reached its target. It’s very sad he died but so have a lot of other people whose families have not set up fund raisers.
I actually hate fundraiser pages for this reason.

I managed to source some (reasonably) priced ingredients on Amazon to make some home made hand sanitizer, the last of which was just delivered. Hubby said, "the last of your bomb making ingredients just arrived"
I laughed, told him him they weren't bomb making ingredients, he replied "tell that to the FBI". I said they had no jurisdiction here, he said "tell that to the mentally ******** kid they nicked for hacking into their computers"
I said he wasn't "********", he also wasn't a kid but an adult with Aspergers.
His reply? "I don't care what he had for his dinner" 😱🤦
I can only take him everywhere twice, 2nd time to apologise 😱🤦🤣

I'm feeling so anxious and panicky seeing the figures and can’t stop crying. The overwhelm is intense. How awful for those people and their families 😢

I hope you’re all ok xxx
