I read but don’t post much but just wanted to say how much you have all helped me. Like a lot of others I have anxiety and actually have diagnosed PTSD and health anxiety from a previous operation that went very wrong. 🙁 Normally I live in my happy bubble where I avoid all news particularly medical, but getting the facts and info from you guys in a level headed way, with the odd joke thrown in, has helped me cope so far, and stay informed. I have been self isolating since Thursday with COVID symptoms (dry cough, sore throat, headache, breathless) and although Thursday night I was hysterical and was planning my will.... the symptoms haven’t got any worse, and I am calm resting, and reading the facts here has kept me fairly level headed. 😘

2020 was meant to be the year I got back on my feet :( I know we're are lucky to be in our houses but I spent a lot of last year and pretty much all of 2018 in bed recovering from chemo. It's like de ja vu in a weird sort of way. Not to mention I am once again scared shitless that if I haven't already had this (which I think there's a decent chance I have) it's still in the back of my mind that there's something going round that could kill me very easily seeing as I'm one of the 1.5 million "vulnerable". Fear of death changes you in unimaginable ways, if anything good comes from this it should be that everyone gains some empathy, patience and more kindness for others.

On a positive note, the job I applied for got in touch yesterday, and I was successful, however they are postponing recruitment until this is all over to protect people from becoming poorly. So, at least I know I have a new career waiting for me at the end of this, just something that is keeping me going.

I don't know if im just super over sensitive (high probability I get told im too sensitve all the time🙄) but I found some of the April fool videos today a bit sad. Telling your kids they are going back to school and getting them ready in their uniforms then being like April fools 😄. Some just took it as a laugh but then I seen some kids hystericaly crying either because they didn't want to go back to school/ or because they were excited to see their friends and then told it was a prank. Just felt sad for them x

Just received a phone call that a friend of mine was rushed into hospital on Monday with covid 19 she’s currently in intensive care she’s 31yrs old she’s a housing officer for local council so she is in and out peoples homes every day. Her partner is losing his shit as nobody is allowed to go into the hospital to be with her. The thought of her or anyone lying in hospital alone is devastating. Wish this virus would just fuck off

Yes don’t be fooled...... we will be paying for this for years and years. Our children will be paying for this!
On a more positive note..., we’ve had no cold callers to our house for weeks. #lookforthepositives
If you get a text or what's app message saying "knock knock" just delete it. It's the Jehovah's witness's working from home. :ROFLMAO:

The typical idiocy of people not knowing how important this guy is v the idols they put on pedestals, a footballer might have great looks but as we’ve established in the last few weeks their contribution to the way the world is running right now is v v low (appreciate that they have their place etc but in the grand scheme we could live without them)🤯

hope he gets a knighthood or whatever the queen does for people that do all good thing for us, for all he’s done in this effort once this is all over

We’ve made it through week one. It’s tempting to feel hopeless because we don’t know how long this will go on for, but I think getting through a week of this is still a victory

Genuinely thought the worst thing about this virus was the symptoms, but no, apparently it’s the fucking house party app.

Kindly fuck off 🤣 if I’m not gonna join you at an actual house party hell will freeze over before I download an app to eat with someone.

I've already been added to the OAP chats and got two of them on tiktok 🙄
That’s my socialising for 2020 done.

(Side note, I’m not an OAP, I’m just their dealer)

it is strange isn’t it? I often say to my friends I feel like I’m watching in through the looking glass and I don’t feel like I’m in it!
I wonder if this is what it felt like WW2, we always learnt about the big huge landmarks in history, but paid little attention to the every day life that they experienced.
the rationing, the listening out for the words from the PM, the sense that it might never end. The threat was just a very different type to the one we have today 🤷🏻‍♀️
Yes,really strange, it’s like living someone’s else’s life to an extent. I am no fan of social media, I don’t have Facebook, instagram, I havent even joined a WhatsApp group. It’s just not my bag. I stumbled across this forum to read up on the Phillip Schofield gossip (sad but true) and now I very much enjoy reading this thread and contributing as and when. It feels like a little online community of people (mostly) getting along, exchanging views and opinions and a healthy dose of humour thrown in for good measure. I am genuinely interested in what people are saying and experiencing and it will be very strange to look back to this thread when it’s all over and think , what a moment in time that was.

I have never been one to be traumatised by the news events, I am a very laid back person, we are doing what we are told in our house, staying in and only shopping where necessary. However today 2 stories really made me wonder if I (or we as a nation) was doing enough (and got me a bit upset).

An old school friend of mine is in hospital with conformed CV19 - they thought it was another bout of pneumonia, so didn't take him in or test him, however he was taken in last night when he took a turn for the worse. Currently on a ventilator in intensive care. He is 44 and a very fit MMA fighter.

Secondly - the wife of someone my husband works with has lost her baby at 22 weeks pregnant. She had to keep it inside her for a further 11 days cos the local hospital couldn't get her in with the appropriate team to get her to deliver. I am utterly heartbroken for them. It's hard enough for that to happen without having to wait that long.

My daughters best friend is in slow labour, and they wont see her until she can't stand the pain anymore. They sent her home from hospital this morning at 2cm dilated.

:(

I walked into My local supermarket and the queue outside the store is marked with smiley faces for where people should stand,
The manager was standing at the top of the queue beside the gloves and sanitizer spray welcoming people and cracking jokes.
He told one person the gloves were 17c each or two for 50c and the amount of sprays you use will be added to your total at checkout.
Said there are toilet rolls hidden behind the stuff they’re trying to shift and if we need anything just shout from a distance and for the love of god don’t cough to get our attention..

it was brilliant 😆😆 exactly the atmosphere you need.
Only in Ireland😻

Reassuring to see Italian figures declining.
its just hit me that 812 deaths is a “positive“
its 2020 and 812 deaths in one day is a positive.

we’re all gonna come out of this really kinda broke and really kinda fucked up aren’t we 😐

Where are the govt suddenly getting all this money from? No money for NHS, public services, etc usually. But now we got billions for lost wages and now they've announced 77 million to get people back to UK who are stranded abroad!

Does anyone else feel like they're part of a group project and nobody else in your group is pulling their weight, making it harder in the long run?

I feel the same frustration when I see people ignoring the stay at home rule. It's taking me back to university.

I don’t think his family should get the money. I hope that isn’t heartless but I think the money should be passed onto the NHS.
I’m not a fan of these fund raising pages. They originally wanted 4K so should have closed it when it reached its target. It’s very sad he died but so have a lot of other people whose families have not set up fund raisers.

I found these memes reductive a month ago, let alone now.

If this goes unchecked and infects 80% of the world and it has a mortality rate of 1% that's 560'000'000 people killed. The world isn't being shut down for fun.

Seems like a Bible belt pro life meme anyway.

Can’t even imagine having to worry about money while you’re unwell. And paying for your own treatment.

When my son was sick I connected with parents who had children with the same cancer and a LOT of them who were in America had gofundme pages just to help pay for their child’s treatment. The NHS isn’t perfect, but we’re so lucky to have it.

Someone I know has cancer of the oesophagus. His operation was cancelled yesterday as they couldn’t guarantee him an intensive care unit bed 💔

I cant even look at that footage. I can not understand how a human could be so cruel to an defenceless animal causing it such pain and horror. Hiding behind culture or tradition is not acceptable, people doing this are sick.
Sure, it's understandable to be outraged by animal cruelty, I know I am. But the thing about culture isn't to excuse it but to make it clear how many countries do horrific things to animals for one reason or another.

The French force feed geese until their livers burst to get foie gras. Veal are kept in horrific conditions where they never see sunlight - and veal is eaten here. At least these examples and the Chinese are getting food out of it.
In Spain they rub chillies in a bulls eyes or stab it in an artery to weigh the fight in a humans favour and then poke it to death with sharp sticks.
Fox hunting in the UK wasn't abolished that long ago either. Its not like the Chinese are alone in treating animals cruelly.
God even battery farmed hens have an utterly miserable existence. This is what humans have done to the world.
