Babies shouldn’t have to “cope”, they should be allowed to thrive

Yeah this bit stood out to me as well. So they would hold her but when they were “discussing things” they placed her between them…

I don’t know about the rest of you that have kids but personally over the past 8 or so years that’s we’ve been parents there have been tens of thousands of times when my husband and I have been “discussing things” and one of us has held onto the baby…. Why would you “place her between us”? So weird!

I'm pretty sure that would have been a factor in her death. Breastfeeding can be hard to get established in ideal circumstances, let alone in their situation. I can't imagine CM was a diligent and responsive mother in ensuring she fed her frequently enough. Poor mite was neglected from all angles.

She didn’t stand a chance did she? Pour little thing. Imagine being cold, probably hungry and not handled with care in her short life.

Seems to imply that both of them didn’t trust themselves to hold her while “discussing” which speaks volumes in itself. If it was just one of them I’d expect the other to have held her and if you were terrified the other partner would go for the baby you’d never have put her between you.

She couldn’t do this because the baby had no appropriate clothing. Victoria lived in Constance’s coat.

They kept Victoria's body most probably because this appalling pair hadn't yet decided how to dispose of her. It certainly wasn't due to any type of derangement due to grief or not wanting to part with her.

Or possibly more calculatingly and sinisterly - so that they had control of the 'evidence' of Victoria's tiny, lifeless body.

Yeah, until now I was kinda willing to give them a little leeway for being grief-stricken on top of the bonkers. CM saying the body wasn't really *her* has led me to believe keeping her body was just about keeping other people's eyes off her. It tracks with their batshittery.

It’s just so sad , the poor little pet and then her little remains to be discarded and left to rot.
Anyone who has cared for children, elderly people, sick people etc know they are solely dependent on you the caregiver to provide the physical care they need, to leave her in a soiled nappy after she died , it’s just appalling , caring for someone after death , it’s the last act of physical love to wash, dress, provide clean clothing etc when someone passes away , I don’t believe they gave two ducks about that little girl, I do think as others have stated it was more an act of hoping any physical remains would be gone before they were caught.

I wondered if it it was fighting/arguing. It’s all so sad. We will never understand it.

Yeah I agree. I think some people were prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt, and accept that they kept Victoria with them after she passed, because they didn’t want to let her go (even though it wasn’t the appropriate reaction)…but her comments today saying that Victoria’s body ‘is not her child’ directly contradict that. So why did they keep her body then, if not to hide what they’d done?

I keep thinking when Constance says how Victoria was so content and just slept, how that can be a symptom of lethargy and malnutrition in a newborn. And she thinks it makes her an excellent mother.

Yes I agree , baby was probably weak and dehydrated, the doodies were also purchased to keep her as quiet as possible

The court has heard Constance Marten is feeling unwell and nauseous today, with discussion commencing over whether she will be able to continue giving evidence today.

This trial will never end will it...

Hope she’s not pregnant!
