Agree, I think this is the most likely. She refused to go and he clung on begging until the last minute and when she stood her ground, he decided not to go either. Wouldn’t surprise me if he used the “if you don’t come with me I’m not going” tactic and it backfired.

Someone said above he could have been planning to propose. I imagine she said absolutely not happening, gave him the boot. He’s probably kicked his toys out of the pram so much he’s didn’t go.
He’ll come on with a mental health story. He’s mad to settle down, she’s good looking and a mother. He’s too manic, overbearing and manipulative for anyone. They are both probably fairly toxic.
He’ll be married to the someone else by the time he’s 30.
