I’ve had 2 Invisalign consultations over the last couple of years and have a third on Friday. All 3 initial meetings have been free but it’s very much a general chat and show you what your teeth could look like, then if you choose to go with them the next consultations where they give you an actual cost and timescale you have to pay for.

How long has everyone’s Invisalign’s taken? My top and bottom teeth are pretty bad so I’m thinking 9 months/a year?!

I’ve been swithering for years but decided I’m actually going to go for it on Friday, it’s got to the point where I don’t want to smile now so to have some confidence back will be worth it. Bye bye money 💸

For a ‘pretty bad’ case it could be up to 1.5-2 years

I started mine in May and should be done by December. I think it completely depends on how bad your teeth are. Mine weren't too bad

Gads ok I’m way off 🫠 I’ll revise my expectations to 18 months. When I last had a consultation about 6 months ago the ortho did say my teeth weren’t as bad as a thought they were so we’ll see. I have a small overbite to fix but apparently that’s easily done at the same time.

I wish I had worn my sodding retainer when I went to uni!!!

I've done my 15 aligners and am waiting for the refinements plan to be agreed. I have a slight tooth clash which isn't comfortable and the on the one side the top and bottom teeth don't bite together properly. Hopefully it will be sortable.

They are straight though and such a huge improvement compared to before. It's weird not having the attachments on. I can't believe how quickly it's gone. I thought it would be horrific based on the first couple of months but it's not been too bad really.

Ugh, my teeth were sooooo straight a few weeks ago when I finished my original set, and the ortho said I could be done if I wanted but she was certain she could move one tooth so it was straighter. I'm on the penultimate refinement tray and they're wonky, like my bottom teeth look like someone has drawn a zigzag. I know I have one tray left but surely that can't be fixed in one tray?!

Currently in the process of getting quotes for invisalign… how often do you have to actually visit the dentist? Considering how far I can realistically travel for the right dentist!

Honestly, maybe it can. Two of my bottom teeth moved because i wasn't wearing my trays and i wore It once overnight and they were back in place.

I've probably been to the dentist a total of 10 times in 7 months. 4 of those visits have been in the past month because my treatment is ending and it was time for whitening etc. my dentist gave me enough trays to last a couple of months each time

Ooh @xx3221 that gives me hope thank you! I'm starting a new job next month and although I know I'll have my retainers in, I'd love to be done with the actual braces part before I start!

I’m due to have clear fixed braces on my lower teeth in the new year, it’s £1,750. I had upper and lower braces as a teenager but i didn’t wear my retainers so my bottom teeth are a bit wonky. I chose to have fixed braces as I’m so lazy and I know I won’t be wearing my Invisalign as much as recommended. My upper teeth have small gaps but I’m going to have the SmileFast composite system on that to close the gaps. All in with whitening £4,750 😑

Finally finished Invisalign today! 11 months later (3 months longer than planned). Going back in 2 weeks to have my attachments removed and my retainer fitting. Can’t have whitening or bonding until next year as I’m pregnant! Bit gutted it won’t all be done at the same time but it is what it is!

Wait what!! 😱😱 I’m due mine off soon but I’m very early preggers.. (so early I certainly wasn’t planning to tell the dentist 🤣🤣) I didn’t know this!

Having read the whole thread and the plenty folks that didn't commit to the teenage braces (can't blame you as I wouldn't last an hour myself) ...

What would you recommend for a young teen? Bottom teeth perfect, just the upper front 4 or maybe 6 that flare out since she got her adult teeth.

So I’ve done both to different degrees - I had 2+ years of fixed braces as a teenager as my teeth were BAD (I had 4 removed due to overcrowding!), I then had 2 wisdom teeth in adulthood that caused super minor overcrowding on the top left side, so had 12 weeks of Invisalign to fix it.

Honestly I’d say for a teen go with the fixed braces, especially as they’re in school so it’s not easy to take in/out and brush, or she might feel self conscious doing it, I also never adjusted to talking with my retainers in (admittedly this was for such a short time it didn’t matter) whereas I found braces fine, so with all of that I’d worry that she’d struggle to keep on top of it and get the hours in, or it’d lapse completely. I also hated the first two weeks and thought about just binning it off completely whereas you don’t have that choice with fixed braces! You’ve also got the attachments to worry about whereas fixed braces are more hardy.

Also obvs not a dentist but if it’s moving teeth in I imagine fixed braces will work a lot quicker so it’ll be over with sooner which would be a huge win for a teen!

For a teen, defo fixed braces, I enquired about Invisalign for my son (he’s 11 now but his teeth are terrible, he had a supernumerary tooth in the middle of his top 2). The dentist said fixed are just superior when it came to the movement in children and even though he is highly competent in Ortho he would not consider treating children as it’s more complex due to the jaw growing. Invisi is great, just not for kids.

My refinements are another 13 trays (my original plan was 15). Feeling a bit stressed because I'm not convinced but I don't have any choice but to keep going because currently my bite isn't right. What if I can never close my teeth together normally?

It wouldn't be as much of a problem but the tooth that is creating an issue is the same tooth that was before but the opposite way around (so, before I had a crossbite and the bottom tooth was on the outside hitting the front of the upper one. Now they are the correct side but the bottom tooth is hitting the upper one). It wouldn't matter possibly but that tooth was already wobbly because of the malocclusion and now it's even worse.
I feel very stressed. I'm taking the positive though which is that my teeth are straight so it's better than before.

I’m in the same position as you tbf, my bite felt perfect after my initial treatment, then I started refinements as just one tooth hadn’t rotated and now my bite feels really off 😓 I think it’s a case of trust the process!
