Clear braces

I’ve just started my clear aligners today! I’m doing one which is similar to Invisalign, my dentist said I am a complex case 😐 I had braces as a teenager and I naively thought they’d be like my retainer which I could click in and out of place with my tongue 🤣 they are sooo tight and I can barely get them off!

I hope they loosen up otherwise no Christmas snacking for me 😂

Ahh definitely do it! Honestly, I found the first few days so tough and was convinced I’d made a terrible decision 😂 BUT it got a lot easier after the second tray, I got better at taking them out and the whole process of cleaning my teeth after eating anything (still a massive faff tbh but it does make me think twice about snacking constantly). The first few days of a new tray can be a bit painful but it’s worth it to see your teeth moving!

Has anyone gone with clear alignments and regretted not going for fixed?

I snack often and always have a drink on the go. I’m happy have water but I’ll struggle on the snacking, especially now while pregnant then feeding. I’m not fussed about losing weight through diet so feels like it’ll be a struggle. How have people found that side of things?

I would also like to know whether any one of you has regretted not going for fixed, mostly for better results. Read this whole thread but I am still wondering what is the option for me. I'm between clear and fixed ceramic.

Been to the ortho and I am currently weighing my options. My dentist uses ClearCorrect as clear alignments, so I don't know if they are as good as invisalign. Clear would be ideal because they are less visible however now that I am getting it done (after contemplating for yearssss), I would like perfect results and from what I've read online so far, fixed is better at achieving that result.

I know I asked the same question but to add, my OH was so glad he went for regular fixed as he needed quite extreme changes. My brother had ceramic fixed after invisiline as he didn't feel the results were good enough from the former, again had quite significant issues. For my OH, one tooth was almost sideways, it's now perfect and as it goes, visibility wasn't much of an issue as he was used to smiling without showing his teeth much from years of doing it and just how his mouth is.

I'm debating it as I only want need a little straightening in one area where it's starting to look crowded and I have a broad, toothy smile. If I needed big changes, I'd go fixed.

Has anyone here had lingual braces? I feel like I’m going to need fixed to have some changes to my top but I don’t want them on show at all, so was thinking about adding them to the back instead using lingual.

Getting my fixed ceramic braces fitted on Wednesday and I'm excited but mostly anxious lol. 😬 I just got the call on Friday so I wasn't prepared for it to be so soon. Last week they moved my June appointment to August because of some mix up and I was insistent that they should at least contact me in case of a cancellation. I'm also worried because I'll probably have to call in sick the next day and I have a family wedding to attend to over the weekend 😅

I know this thread is mostly about clear braces but anyone here had fixed? Any tips to get through the first week?

Exciting! I had a fixed brace and honestly I adjusted quicker than my friend who had invisalign at the same time. Painkillers and soft food will be your friend! You’ll find you eat a lot slower at first and chewing feels weird but you get back to normal pretty quickly.

Talking does feel a bit strange at first but again you adapt and get back to normal. You’ll be fine for the wedding if you keep up to the painkillers, your teeth just ache as you get used to it.

Make sure you get some brace wax from the dentist for any uncomfortable bits as the fixings can rub against the inside of your mouth (can also get this in boots but the one I got from the dentist was better!) and don’t be afraid to go back in if there are any really painful bits, mine had a habit of forgetting to trim the wire after tightening it and I was forever having to go back to make him cut it 😂

Best thing I ever did though so in the painful bits, focus on the end goal 🙌🏼

I had six month smiles and finished about 5 months ago. It was hard, but best thing I’ve ever done! Stock up on painkillers, bonjela and dental wax. Itll be hard at first but it’s so worth it, honestly!

I got my Spark aligners fitted yesterday (apparently the same as Invisalign, but newer technology, more stain resistant, more comfortable etc apparently).

So far, it hasn’t been so bad! Not painful but a little achey this morning and when I’ve taken them out but totally manageable - not needed paracetamol yet.

Just feel VERY aware of them all the time! Will I ever get used to them and not feel like “I’ve got plastic in my mouth”? Also producing lots of saliva but lips feel dry - any tips to help my lips? They were on the dry side anyway x

Really good! They’ve not been bad at all and I’ve got used to them really quickly! I have my attachments fitted at week 8 though so not looking forward to that as they’ll be less invisible and I guess it will get more intense! They are to help teeth move though apparently x

QQ - I need new retainers I’m down to my last pair (I keep misplacing them?!), I emailed my old (moved area!) dentist and they’re not replying, is there a quick and easy way I can just order them online through Invisalign does anyone know please? 🙏🏻

I had my attachments on day 1 last week, I think I've got about 18! I feel a bit self conscious when talking to people now and feel like I can't close my mouth properly 🤣 other than that all good!

One orthodontist told me mine was moderate to severe then I went to a different dentist and it only took 6 months! I'd say go to a couple and see what they say.
