Harriet was/is quite prominent in the tiktok farming community, which is where she must have been spotted.

I did wonder how they'd found her, but I don't think it was an audition as she'd never heard of the show prior to being on it (I read an interview and she seemed genuine).

I imagine she was chosen to showcase that farming isn't just for boys, it is an entertainment program at the end of the day so they're going to add a little bit of TV sparkle here and there which balances out the serious side of running a farm.

I think it's a case of them knowing that we know, so they don't over egg the pudding and we go along with it.

Similar to Top Gear - we know they didn't really shove Richard Hammond down a snowy mountain in a shed, but it was still very funny to watch. You can always tell when Clarkson is on script as he gets his Top Gear voice on ( making the decision about Richard Ham for example was clearly a "bit" to give one of the stories a cosy ending).

I’ve watched it relatively recently, not finished s4 yet as it’s a bit dull. How contrived is it? Seeing Kaleb on tour seems very different to how he was portrayed in early series was that all a bit set up or exaggerated for the tv series or has Kaleb just seen the opportunity to make some money. Did he ‘audition’ for the role? He’s not coming across well this series. Harriet was nice but she’s from Derbyshire right so must have auditioned rather than applied for a regular job as there must be young female farmers in the Cotswolds already?
Of course some of it is contrived and scripted. It is primarily an entertainment show after all. Clarkson's daft inventions are an obvious one. Test driving tractors another. Hovercraft on the field.

I wish they'd make a plushie out of Richard Ham. 🐷

Joining the Charlie love here. He never shows off about it but he must have pretty vast knowledge of what he does. Everything done in a calm.and collected way and I'll give Jeremy credit for putting his ego aside and really listening to the experts rather than trying to be a know all.

But Charlie just meanders about problem solving in his laid back way. The electrics at the pub for example. He just gets stuck in and sorts things. He is such an asset to JC

In fact all.the characters, apart from Kaleb this season, are endearing Gerald, Lisa, Alan and Dilwyn seem lovely.

Finally finished series 4! Really enjoyed, even though it was an extra stressful season. A few thoughts:

Loved Harriet, what a breathe of fresh air. I hope she pops back next series. Agreed with everyone about Kaleb's attitude this series being a little off-putting.

I want to add to the love for Cheerful Charlie! What a bloke ♥

I thought it was weird that everyone working on the pub knew about the bank holiday deadline but no one checked their own calendars and realised they were going to have to open a week early?!

Does anyone else worry about Jeremy's health?? He's smoked all his life, he's 65 years old, not in great shape (sorry Jezza) and he's putting himself through a lot of stress and physical labour. I was worried he'd keel over and have a heart attack when he got super angry about the cattle gate thingies being left out by Kaleb. He can't even lie down to try and fix his tractor without his neck getting ducked!

Loved the fate of Richard Ham - what an adorable little pig (nice to see the real life Richard as well, that chrome tractor was a beauty)
Jeremy nearly had a heart attack not long after filming. He now has a stent and a slightly healthier lifestyle.

Whatever Clarkson pays Charlie, it's not enough. He's the unsung hero of this show.

Caleb didn't come across well at all this series. I thought it was mean he didn't tell Clarkson about the harvest when Jeremy enjoys it so much.

Ironic that Clarkson was talking about Alan's heart surgery not knowing he'd be facing similar issues himself not long after.

I probably would have started the harvest without Jeremy if I were Kaleb, once he joined in he started wrecking things, making mistakes and getting so stressed it must have been much quicker and simpler doing it without him for a while. I like to think Kaleb knew Jeremy was stressed and busy at the pub and was trying to be helpful taking on the harvest by himself.

He literally giggled that he was leaving him out of it.

Pretty sure Charlie is absolutely filthy rich as it is, without Jeremy's help. He doesn't just work for Clarkson's farm, he is the go-to guy for agricultural advice and planning across the whole area.

I worked with Richard Hammond back in the day.

His wife was the office tart, with skirts up to her eye lobes!

Jeremy would never have looked at her!

I know. Clarkson didn't pluck him from thin air. He comes across as a very calm, knowledgeable man. The complete opposite of Clarkson. :ROFLMAO:

Only kidding. Clarkson is no idiot. I noticed Sainsbury's stock Hawstone the other week. I went to get some today to try it and it was all sold out. The power of TV. He also did a thing on social media recently that if you were a pub he liked the look of, you could get a barrel of Hawstone delivered for free. I saw some being delivered to a country, gastro pub near me.

Just finished series 4 and found it enjoyable and thought provoking as the earlier ones.

Completely agree with the general consensus on here, Kaleb was a bit of a fool but Harriet was a joy to watch (apparently she was discovered and recruited by Charlie hence why she wasn’t local or know about the farm).

Talking of Charlie, he is the person I want to be when I grow up (or at least the one I marry), so unflappable but he clearly cares deeply about the issues. His knowledge too is outstanding.

I did spot a continuity error, at one point in the harvest in episode 7 Jeremy is wearing a festival wristband, this quickly disappears but is seen a whole episode later back on his wrist when they are wrapping up at the non Farmers Dog pub. He clearly managed to take the time away from the farm at some point.

Finally I hope Alan is ok, if everyone needs a Charlie to be married to, we all need a builder like Alan in our lives, one who is reliable and honest about what we are facing when it comes to £££

Just started the last episode....you've got to question anyone who turns up and queues for so long to go into a massively packed pub, especially with babies in tow.
This is what me and husband also said, why not go a few days or even a few weeks later, it'll still be there and you'll have a much nicer experience. It looks like a lovely pub, we really like what he's doing for the local farmers, we hope it lasts a long time and someone capable takes it over even after Clarkson retires.

I'd be happy to visit there. I'd be happy to pay a little over the odds for the meal. Not for Clarkson. But all those farmers who sat round that table and talked about last year being the toughest ever, the ones who are selling their combines to survive and those that looked vaguely hopeful when they offered lamb, pasta, eggs whatever.

But having no finished the last episode, I'm reminded again that a man I used to fairly much despise has really earned some respect from me by what he's doing. Yes it's good telly, yes he's making a lot of money but I do think he genuinely cares. The camaraderie between those people sat round that table at the end is nice to see. Their joy at Gerald's health updates and his winning a trophy is heart warming. Also that they joked with Alan in a way he probably really needed. It's taking a village to run Diddly Squat and it's quite a sweet village most of the time.

Remember a while back when Lorraine Kelly went to court to claim she didn't need to pay more tax as she played a character on TV? well, Clarkson is one person where I would say this was true. He is, of course, that man but is a canny and shrewd operator and knows his audience very well. One thing I like about him is he seems to know his weaknesses and doesn't try to hide them. He also knows he needs Andy Wilman.

Clarkson's Farm to me is a lesson in how to make a show about something. It's about a farm and is a few seasons in so, in effect we've seen it all before but it manages to get the storytelling and pace right and focus on the right characters to pull the audience along.

It's a shame he had the bust up at the BBC in a way as it's perfect public service broadcasting. As many others have already said, it's taught me far more about farming than school or Countryfile ever has.

Don't know why he even needs to advertise Hawkstone. It seems to be bloody everywhere now, I don't know whether their salesman specifically targetted Cambridgeshire but it's on tap in a couple of my local pubs, and has been for a couple of weeks, so not just one precious trial keg. If the same pattern of wide availability is repeated across the country, it can't possibly be a little husband and wife brewery making it for him, there has to be one of the big boys quietly doing the brewing and distribution for him.

Doesn't matter if it is good or bad, the number of people saying "oh they've got the Clarkson lager, I must try it", even if they only try one pint, his profit must be astronomical from it.

(Yes I did fall for it and had a pint, nothing special, went straight back to Peach Jubel for the rest of the night 🤣 )
