Charlie is my favourite. Very funny and dry.

Convo whilst discussing the new bull ...

Clarkson: What if he's gay?
Charlie: Then we will love him all the same.

I'd be happy to visit there. I'd be happy to pay a little over the odds for the meal. Not for Clarkson. But all those farmers who sat round that table and talked about last year being the toughest ever, the ones who are selling their combines to survive and those that looked vaguely hopeful when they offered lamb, pasta, eggs whatever.

But having no finished the last episode, I'm reminded again that a man I used to fairly much despise has really earned some respect from me by what he's doing. Yes it's good telly, yes he's making a lot of money but I do think he genuinely cares. The camaraderie between those people sat round that table at the end is nice to see. Their joy at Gerald's health updates and his winning a trophy is heart warming. Also that they joked with Alan in a way he probably really needed. It's taking a village to run Diddly Squat and it's quite a sweet village most of the time.

Is this the right place to admit my huge crush on Charlie?

I've admitted it to my husband who thinks I'm weird.

I hope Tattle will be more accepting.

Just catching the last couple of episodes of the series.

That pair of chancers who were supposed to be setting up the pub for Jeremy, what a useless pair of twats. Neither of them did anything other than spend huge sums of money. Neither of them thought to sort out pricing, left to Charlie at the last minute. They needed slapping and chucking out, never mind them threatening to kick Jeremy in the nuts. And frankly them walking out on opening weekend was the height of unprofessionalism.

I thought the chef was a bit of a dickhead as well. Seemed to think his needs were the only ones that mattered.

Jeremy bit off too much trying to open so quickly, but those women didn't help anything.

Charlie is just a fucking hero!

Kaleb is really coming across as unpleasant this series. It's such a shame. He was so innocent, wholesome and knowledgeable about farming back in the day that you had to admire someone so young but passionate about what they did.
His ego is showing big time and it's not a good look.

Joining the Charlie love here. He never shows off about it but he must have pretty vast knowledge of what he does. Everything done in a calm.and collected way and I'll give Jeremy credit for putting his ego aside and really listening to the experts rather than trying to be a know all.

But Charlie just meanders about problem solving in his laid back way. The electrics at the pub for example. He just gets stuck in and sorts things. He is such an asset to JC

In fact all.the characters, apart from Kaleb this season, are endearing Gerald, Lisa, Alan and Dilwyn seem lovely.
Whatever Clarkson pays Charlie, it's not enough. He's the unsung hero of this show.

Caleb didn't come across well at all this series. I thought it was mean he didn't tell Clarkson about the harvest when Jeremy enjoys it so much.

Ironic that Clarkson was talking about Alan's heart surgery not knowing he'd be facing similar issues himself not long after.

I loved Harriet, I wasn’t sure on her at first but I loved that she showed a girl can care about her appearance (hello eyelashes) and do all the “basic” stuff like TikTok whilst still being an epic farmer, knows her stuff and got stuck in. Thought she was a great role model for young girls tbh

Charlie is brilliant. His facial expressions are masterpieces. His exasperation with Jeremy is worth every very expensive bill he will be sending to Jeremy.

I can’t believe a professional pub opener (or whatever they called themselves) would not have suggested a soft launch, I’m surprised he didn’t do a test run and invite all the local farmers or something, it seemed stupid to open on day 1 to hundreds of paying customers when nothing had been tested….but then I guess that wouldn’t have made for good TV

Finally finished series 4! Really enjoyed, even though it was an extra stressful season. A few thoughts:

Loved Harriet, what a breathe of fresh air. I hope she pops back next series. Agreed with everyone about Kaleb's attitude this series being a little off-putting.

I want to add to the love for Cheerful Charlie! What a bloke ♥

I thought it was weird that everyone working on the pub knew about the bank holiday deadline but no one checked their own calendars and realised they were going to have to open a week early?!

Does anyone else worry about Jeremy's health?? He's smoked all his life, he's 65 years old, not in great shape (sorry Jezza) and he's putting himself through a lot of stress and physical labour. I was worried he'd keel over and have a heart attack when he got super angry about the cattle gate thingies being left out by Kaleb. He can't even lie down to try and fix his tractor without his neck getting fucked!

Loved the fate of Richard Ham - what an adorable little pig (nice to see the real life Richard as well, that chrome tractor was a beauty)

Just finished series 4 and found it enjoyable and thought provoking as the earlier ones.

Completely agree with the general consensus on here, Kaleb was a bit of a dick but Harriet was a joy to watch (apparently she was discovered and recruited by Charlie hence why she wasn’t local or know about the farm).

Talking of Charlie, he is the person I want to be when I grow up (or at least the one I marry), so unflappable but he clearly cares deeply about the issues. His knowledge too is outstanding.

I did spot a continuity error, at one point in the harvest in episode 7 Jeremy is wearing a festival wristband, this quickly disappears but is seen a whole episode later back on his wrist when they are wrapping up at the non Farmers Dog pub. He clearly managed to take the time away from the farm at some point.

Finally I hope Alan is ok, if everyone needs a Charlie to be married to, we all need a builder like Alan in our lives, one who is reliable and honest about what we are facing when it comes to £££

I can't imagine what he has to know!! The programme really does emphasise how much paper work and legislation there is for just about everything related to farming.

Saw the other day that they are filming season 4! Absolutely love it. It’s such a good show, a great mix of comedy and actual farming issues.
Whatever you want to say about it and Jeremy Clarkson, there's no doubt it's made the general public far more aware of some of the issues and red tape farmer are facing than Countryfile has managed in however many years that has been on air.

Finished it over the weekend. Really, really enjoyed it.

Had a little tear in my eye when Gerald thanked them all, including the camera crew. I’d already noticed when they “cheers’ed” that he’d gestured to the crew too.

I find them all so likeable and they do come across like a proper team. Really hoping to see more in the future. I think it’s one of my favourite things to watch 🥰

I like watching the programme but I don't understand the love for Clarkson. He's made a massive business off the back of this and I don't know how much actually transfers to farmers other than spreading awareness farming is hard.
For example I live in a farming area, where there's tourists and it's in a different part of the country to Clarkson's farm.
I've heard people go in the local shop and ask if they sell Hawkstone. They don't, they sell loads and loads of different local products including beers and ciders made by small companies, arguably much less generic than Hawkstone too. But because they don't sell Hawkstone they don't buy anything. Shop keep says it happens more than you'd like to think.
Admittedly I've not started this series yet but it would be great if the message was go and see what your local farmer, food producer or shop is doing rather than one long Clarkson advert.
I think it does help. I've lost count of the number of people I've seen or spoken to who have said it's raised their awareness of what a state farming is in and wanting to buy more local food. There's a shop in my town which only sells local farm produce and he is always really busy.

Re. the Hawkstone thing, if I was running that shop, I'd put a sign up suggesting local alternatives to Hawkstone or when a customer asks about it, tell them they don't have that, but they do have xyz which is the same and from farmer John in the next village.
