Just catching the last couple of episodes of the series.

That pair of chancers who were supposed to be setting up the pub for Jeremy, what a useless pair of mats. Neither of them did anything other than spend huge sums of money. Neither of them thought to sort out pricing, left to Charlie at the last minute. They needed slapping and chucking out, never mind them threatening to kick Jeremy in the nuts. And frankly them walking out on opening weekend was the height of unprofessionalism.

I thought the chef was a bit of a head as well. Seemed to think his needs were the only ones that mattered.

Jeremy bit off too much trying to open so quickly, but those women didn't help anything.

Charlie is just a bleeping hero!
They were awful. Horrible cows 😕

Yeah couldn’t agree more! They were all smiles when they thought they had a rich client who would spend endless amounts of cash, but when they were expected to do some work they just became two horrible bleeps. The one who told him to go into the kitchen when he had literally just been 😮 and gave him a mouthful about the building not being fit for purpose, it was their job to get it fit for purpose! And the chef was awful, smug and patronising and talking to Clarkson like he was a piece of tit on his shoe. Poor Jeremy was stumbling around grey faced at one point on opening day like he was about to collapse.

Charlie was brilliant when the electricity went off in the kitchen, clearly that’s not his job but unlike Nick who just complained with a face like thunder he actually tried to help and fix it, and they managed it in the end.

Although when they had the shot of Clarkson sitting by himself in the office for a breather in the middle of the chaos of opening day i did expect to hear Charlie popping up, ‘hi Jeremy!’ 😆

I was worried for Jeremy when he was up on the thing drilling bits of sticks onto the ceiling 🫣

Would like to think that even Jeremy wouldn't want them to have a bad edit as he seems to value hard work but I bet that's the best they could get! Let's hope any new clients of theirs watch this and realise what they might be in for.

Haven’t watched the final episode yet but yes what was the actual point of the 2 women? I thought they were Project Managers but just seemed to walk round adding a cushion here and there

The two women reminded me of area managers who always used to swan in when I worked in hospitality. Always had grand ideas of how things should be done but didn’t have a bloody clue because they didn’t do the actual job so had no idea how things worked.
How could they have not realised that there was no prices, and how did they not realise there was no staff room or area for staff breaks?
Supposed ‘experts’ but they seemed to miss a lot of the things you’d expect them to know if they were so good at setting up pubs. More interested on spending money to make it look nice.

I noticed no mention was made of the canvas roof on the outside decking area being replaced with the giant umbrellas he was advised to splash out on in the first place. They couldn't help showing this had been done though by those inevitable shots they had to include of people dining out under them on opening day.

It's been reported that Clarkson is worth about 50 million quid, so I could only think that his constant bulking at the price of things on these large scale projects is purely for theatre. With that kind of backing these costs would be peanuts.

Yes they did show the roof being taken down and he then said about the "budget umbrellas" being a better fit.

I did think "maybe you should have listened to the two women in the first place! Obviously they wanted the expensive option, but surely the failed canvas roof and the replacement" budget" umbrellas must not have been a cheaper option in the end. Silly Jeremy!

I do wonder if they left or if he got rid!

I can’t believe a professional pub opener (or whatever they called themselves) would not have suggested a soft launch, I’m surprised he didn’t do a test run and invite all the local farmers or something, it seemed stupid to open on day 1 to hundreds of paying customers when nothing had been tested….but then I guess that wouldn’t have made for good TV

I said the same - why didn't they do a few trials. Invite the cooperative so they can see where the end product is being used. Invite the TV team, maybe the local village /councillors /school staff. Anything to just iron out issues before the general public were unleashed on them.

Have to say though it all seems to have worked out in the end, lots of very positive reviews on the food and general experience.

Please remember that what you see is so heavily edited for TV, and also that you don’t know what Clarkson and his team asked for. The pub staff probably did want to delay opening, do a soft launch etc but often when the gaffer sets their mind to something they won’t change it, and they won’t listen to you if you warn them why it’s a bad idea.

I’ve seen it so many times: CEO’s or big bosses setting ridiculous arbitrary deadlines for things and then yelling when everything goes wrong because it was rushed or under tested.

He didn’t replace the sail with the £40,000 jumberellas. He put in normal parasols.

It's Clarkson's thing though isn't it, all the jeopardy, disasters and 'what could possibly go wrong' ideas, then the turnaround. It was the same with the farm shop and yet people kept going. Not sure how it's doing now though.

There's also lots of editing involved for drama/entertainment. Was all that clearing up really happening as people were queuing waiting to get in? Or was it actually separate days?

This is what I said too. Watched it with my partner who has worked extensively in hospitality over the years, including opening new venues, and although we were both shocked at the lack of a trial run, I also have a film/tv background and said we didn't know how much had been edited to fit the narrative they wanted to give on the show.

It still give me the absolute fear though seeing the crowds of people waiting for tables and there being no prices on the menu or any electricity! So disorganised. Hospitality trauma never leaves you :ROFLMAO:

I visited the farm shop the other week on the way back from a Cotswolds wedding and I was so impressed with how neat and tidy it looked. Nothing like the chaos shown on screen, but then again I visited was on a Monday just before closing time. There were maybe 5 others in the shop and it's a small place, so I can't imagine what it's like on a Saturday. Lots of other people milling about in the seating area enjoying the sun, taking photos with the big Clarksons Farm Amazon Prime sign. The cow juice machine was out of order 😂

If anyone goes to the shop, get the crisps. They're unreal. The new flavour mushroom and wild garlic was delish. I have yet to try my bee juice! Next time I will be prepared and book The Farmers Dog!
