I love Summer (sorry) but the heat the last few days means we can’t do anything, especially with the dogs.

However, I bought my first Christmas present today! I feel this was a bit early but compared to this thread I feel late to the party 😂

I’ve just started following a couple of instagram
accounts which are all about nostalgic Christmas in the 80s/90s. Giving me proper feel good vibes and remaining me of things I’d long forgotten!

I follow them on TikTok. I LOVE them. All the 90s decorations, shops, adverts, songs. I wish we could have Christmas like that again. Going out to the shops with your mum in December, freezing cold, buying presents, wrapping paper, being treated to lunch. Hearing all the Christmas songs in the shops, home for Saturday night TV. Every advert bringing the magic, from Argos to Boots to Tesco. Staring at the lights on the tree. Miss it so so much. I always tried to recreate this as much as I could for my kids but it will never be the same. School was an absolute joy the whole of December. Singing Christmas songs, practicing nativity, making decorations and cards, Christmas lunch, just the best time.

I try and do this for my kids too! It will never be the same sadly but I do a lot of baking/hot chocolate/crafting in the hopes it keeps some of it alive 🙂 I do miss the days where you had to go shopping to get presents as I basically get everything from Amazon now 🙈 fond memories of walking round BHS with my mum buying grandparent gifts!

Yes M&S it was for me. I used to go and help my gran with her shopping too. We used to go the foodhall after and get fresh cream cakes for dessert after a McDonalds on the way home. That was when McDonalds was actually a treat 🤣

I miss places like Woolies, HMV and Debenhams at Christmas time. The displays that they'd update accordingly. Trying to find the best value perfume sets for presents as I got older. Being allowed a tot of Baileys in the hot chocolate once school was out and so much spray cream your nose would disappear.

Shiny, happy tinsel everywhere. Cheesy decorations up, especially in the 90s before everyone was just too cool for such fun. Colour schemes that were dictated by taste, or lack thereof, and being terribly disappointed by the fact you weren't allowed to decorate the tree.

It wasn't even like my childhood was great, because it wasn't, but the few photos we have seem like a moment of time you look back at through a smudged window. Details not clear but overall pleasant.

Just wondering anyone who is buying Christmas presents already - how do you get past children’s birthdays that are before then? Whatever I buy now I seem to give them for their birthdays.

we are doing kids christmas stuff. My 7 year old sees something and says i'm asking santa for that so we've been jotting down everything. His recent one was i want a bag like mums :D

I haven’t yet but I usually get my first Christmas gifts by July! My eldest’s birthday is earlier in the year don’t have that issue but my youngest is August. I keep back big/wow factor presents for Christmas. Or if something is slightly ‘older’ I keep it back - she loves Lego for example so I would save a more complicated set for Christmas when she’s aged into it a bit.

Other than that I buy stocking and Christmas Eve box fillers early as it’s usually socks/crafty bits/stationery and doesn’t need me to interrogate them on what they want for Christmas 😅

We've ALWAYS had tinsel & lamenta, Mr2 insists as it's reminiscent of our Christmases growing up....

Last year we bought garlands for the ceiling & they were a great hit. Tacky maybe but we loved them & family appreciated the nostalgia too.

Every time we go into The Works my kids ask to put stuff “on their Christmas list” so my phone camera is full of pictures of them grinning with random stuff that I then have to go back and find 😂

Reminds me of when my kids were young and used to see stuff in the supermarket toy aisles. They were so young and naive I could distract them, pick up the toy and hide it in the trolley, and again at checkout 🤣🤣

(They also have for women and adults).

Not be long until Sainsbury’s have their Christmas jammies online 🤣🤣 love Sainsbury’s jammies, they’re the best.
