Julie Burchill just had to pay damages and issued an apology to Ash Sarkar for her defamatory comments. And I feel like SF needs to be VERY careful to not end up down this road, you cannot just snap pictures of both books and say someone copied you without any evidence whatsoever. And then continue to be obsessed with them and go on multiple tirades. Madness.
Ironic that you mention this as SF has just gone on a massive tirade about Ash getting damages for defamation, seems the point has totally gone over her head as she's now likening this to "reparations" and failing to grasp that she is guilty of defamation herself and should really watch out. Also accusing Ash of being a "model minority" and only calling out Chidera's twisting of reparations bc she's anti-Black, because south Asians MUST be anti-Black, and can't think critically for themselves, right?!?! Honestly, I don't think she's ever successfully argued any point without furiously race-baiting.

I had no idea she sent Ash those mad messages though. I'm even more inclined to believe SF is bat tit because Ash didn't just write that piece to tear her down, she spoke about some very valid things that SF should be concerned with if she was really about feminism, except all she cares about is herself.
I actually remember following the person that was quote tweeted in the article because I was happy another black woman, who is well versed in feminist theory, thought SF was a crock of tit.

1) SFs followers blindly believe that SF came up with "women don't owe you pretty" and cannot see Erin McKean is credited on the VERY FIRST bleeping PAGE of FGs book
and 2) They are just taking other people's word for it that FGs book is an exact copy of SF without actually checking it for themselves.

It's really vexing me that SF is now responding to the Sarah Everard and anti-Asian murders by dragging up her own older tweets and circling the dates to show that she was speaking on male/ white supremacist violence ages ago. Like..... babes you weren't the only one? People are talking about it a lot right now because there's literally been high profile murders in the news..... I just hate this constant and blatant self promotion off the back of people's deaths.

It’s unbelievable that Chidera thinks it’s ok to contact Ash because she’s written a very valid piece on a very public spat. She’s clearly hurt by the piece and it’s clearly touched a nerve. I feel sorry for her that she is going through so much, but she made her own bed and now she’s going to have to lie down in and and tuck herself in.
Chidera hasn’t respected Florence’s mental health or feelings whilst she has bombarded her feed with defamatory content.
She also made it very clear that if Florence’s mental health were to have been impacted, that it would be ok or worse still, a publicity stunt.
She’s encouraged her followers to also attack Florence, in an unrelenting way.
So if she thinks that hurt feelings and trauma from public accountability is the right course of actions for Florence, she needs to accept it for herself too.

Has anyone else been following the stan wars over the similarity between Lil Nas X's new vid for Call Me By Your Name and FKA Twigs' vid for Cellophane? People saying he ripped off her pole scene (they are ridiculously similar). Lil Nas X posted saying Twigs called him to make him aware, he says he wasn't previously aware of the similarities and says how much he respects Twigs and encourages people to support her work. All the comments are overwhelmingly supportive of them both (see attached screenshots for an example).
I just found this really interesting bc it's amazing how people just straight up believed Lil Nas X, accepted that it's no big deal and just moved on. Twigs also posted positively about the situation so maybe that helped. I thought maybe it's bc they're both Black so there's less of an existing trope of white women stealing from Black women for it to neatly slot into, like there was with the Slumflower situation. But then plenty of men steal from women and pass our ideas off as their own.
I just think it's been dealt with in a really positive and respectful way and Twigs has conducted herself so much more gracefully than Chidera whilst still getting recognition and "her flowers" for her work, as Chidera would put it. And I think both artists have recognised that at the end of the day, it's a bleeping music video and people are dying from a virus, it's really not the biggest issue we need to be focusing on rn and people need to be kinder to each other and build connection and understanding in such difficult times.

Think this is really interesting and nuanced, and agree that there’s likely some misogynoir involved but the way both parties handled it is also a case of both being genuinely talented and having a place in the industry imo. Twigs in particular is obviously an artist to the core and not threatened by LNX. I think Twigs is also mindful of LNX as queer representation and visibility for a community that really needs it so maybe also treated it more gently because of that too? Like it’s putting ego aside and recognising the talent and the niche both can occupy.
With FG and SF, they’re both grifting in a way, both just repackaging other people’s thoughts and works (I haven’t read FG, apologies if this isn’t the case for her). I can see SF thinking maybe there isn’t space for both of them because FG put out her book and then some. Ego with nothing behind it but the grift.
WOW I’m late to the party on this but have been reading all the SF stories. She keeps claiming that FG is buying ad space so that when you search SFs book, FG’s shows up. So I tested it and it happens the other way round. It’s a ducking algorithm based on buying habits!! She is also benefiting from it!!
