From reading the back and forth here and the way the mother goes on it’s a shame the body cam footage can’t just be released so people can see for themselves.

Christ, that poor, poor family. I have been critical of Christine in the past but my heart goes out to that poor woman and the rest of the family, absolutely fucking heartbreaking. I hope they are getting all the love and support they need and that the press leave them the fuck alone.
I agree, I don’t think she handled the situation with Caroline well at all but she is a mum grieving her child and now she has lost two in the same way. It doesn’t bare thinking about. I really hope she has a strong network around her as she will really need it.

As someone who is close to Caroline’s family, please don’t lie. Caroline needed urgent medical attention - her wrists were cut to the muscle - more than just first aid. There was not much more than a half hour difference between her being pronounced dead and it hitting the news, so I’d be surprised if you knew before. And she was not ‘off her face on coke’, they were both drugs tested and she came back clear. They had both been drinking a lot.
to be fair we could all say that we are close to Caroline’s family

In the previous documentary made a few years back (which I feel was a far more accurate portrayal of Caroline and her struggles) her mother admitted to fearing everytime Caroline rang her that it would be one of her friends saying she had taken her life, that is how fragile she was. She said this went on for years. So why she’s now suddenly side- stepped all of that and is on the complete warpath is baffling.
It’s all a massive contradiction isn’t it. Yes it’s an awful situation! In reality though she was clearly a danger to herself (and others when emotional) so why were her agents, friends and family more concerned with selling exclusive stories than getting her sent to a clinic for real help? They had the means to do it unlike many other people who have to use the NHS. No one should be blamed but why isn’t that being discussed or explored more? Send her to the priory instead of getting a hypnotherapist to write a letter 🥴 A lot of people who commit crimes are unfortunately mentally ill, that doesn’t mean they get excused. It’s not how the criminal justice system works. It’s also said throughout the CPS report that in all interviews with police Caroline stated she had no mental health problems and no history. Yet her mother said she was diagnosed as bipolar? If she wasn’t being transparent with police then she likely wasn’t being honest about other things either. Such a sad situation.

I think with her mental health probs, she just couldn’t see a way to come back from it. It was like in the first channel 4 doc about her, her friends said how poorly she took splitting up from someone. They were like it’s not that bad, but to her it absolutely was!

I still don’t get how someone who has had 2 attempts on their life in a matter of weeks was not detained for her own safety.

Also surely after a suicide attention the night before, her court appearance could have been rearranged! She looked absolutely vacant during the proceedings!
Plus, if she had been forced to seek treatment for her mental health problems, and possibly her drinking, that would have gone a long way in making the public understand and eventually move past what she had done.

I listened to the mother on Spencer Matthew’s podcast and the way she says Caroline “brushed the phone off Lewis’ head” as he woke up is honestly just so unbelievable. Brushed it?!! There is absolutely zero point in even trying to rationalise anything else that comes out of her mouth if she fails at the first hurdle to acknowledge that Caroline threw a phone at her sleeping and defenceless partner and caused a wound.
She's actually maddening! My precious Caroline. No accountability. Total delusion.

I suppose the problem is you can't have it both ways. You can't court the press and give them titbits but then complain when they report stories about you. She loved the press when they were on her side.

Looking at some pics of her online and it really looks like the only picture where she has an honest look on her face is after court. The rest of the time she looks like a person really trying to look as if she's got the best life ever and is having the best time, but I get the impression that this was hardly ever the case.
I think this is why her death is so hard for everybody to come to terms with. Nobody can marry the person in the media/on Instagram with supposedly such an incredible life to the person that took their life over what would ultimately be a minor assault conviction at worst.

Look at Cheryl Cole and Vicky Pattison, their careers seemingly blew up AFTER assault convictions and Cheryl especially was hounded by the press at the time. It doesn’t make sense that Caroline with her glossy way of living and larger than life personality would be so easily crushed by this, but there was a hell of a lot we didn’t know. Perhaps the press would’ve been kinder if she had been more open about her struggles. Her mum has mentioned a few times that she had been hospitalised for her mental health several times. We never knew that either. All very hard to compute

They were so terrified of the media twisting every story, hiding her away took precedence over her safety. Her agent basically admitted this too. Granted she fucked up and assaulted someone, but she was failed by people close to her. Her mum is full of guilt hence why she's still going on and making documentaries!

Yes, unfortunately, I saw this happen with a family I know. Two brothers.

A terrible tragedy. And having to deal with it in the public eye as well adds another dimension.

I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole because there was just something so off about her mum on the show. Happened upon the cps review for anyone who’s missed it and, wow, eye opening

Also found her mother’s comments to the Di who asked for the CPS to reconsider. Very strange for a grieving mother to refer to Caroline as “that girl killed herself because you put an appeal through”
So much to unpack here. Thanks for sharing. Andrew Brady went on to serve time for harassing that Dan Wootton, not sure if he’s still serving that time.

I wonder who approached who about making this documentary?

Did the mother approach the company?
Or did they approach her offering a load of money and offering to help her find the " truth "?
If the latter is true then these documentary makers are no better than the press.

I agree with the above poster who said it should of just been left at the first documentary.

I think it’s irrelevant whether she had more money than them! I don’t see what difference it makes tbh?
It increases the power imbalance. Someone with a good career and money in a relationship with someone a lot younger with no money gives them a lot of power.

I’ve not watched the documentary but this thread has always saddened me going on about Caroline whacking poor burton with the lamp and what if roles were reversed blah, etc. Thank goodness for somebody pointing out the Lewis burton thread which ironically sets the record straight and highlights what a nasty piece of work he is and how wronged she was in all this. Utter tragedy the whole thing and as for all those sticking up for him, professional tennis player my ass, professional con man more like. He should get a proper job and earn his own wage, wtf does he actually do, definition of a leech this man he wasn’t even all that in tennis terms either, proper blag back story this man has and such a shame Caroline fell for it

Just finished the doc and it to me it shows where the problem lies - her mum is a massive enabler and helped brush Caroline’s mental health issues under the rug. It’s clear from the other documentary that she most likely has undiagnosed BPD. Her mum is now deflecting and blaming the police/ her friends when she could’ve done so much more herself like physically be present when Caroline was in “hiding” after the DV incident. The whole documentary was her just downplaying her daughter’s violence and trying to pretend it wasn’t as bad as it was apparently a phone rather than a lamp. I know one of the officers who attended and they gave them BOTH first aid. His injury was bad enough to require it too which Caroline’s mum tried arguing wasn’t the case. I was told about this incident and her suicide before it hit the news. This officer also said she was fully off her face on coke which they also love to leave out
I'd be careful putting that on here. I know it's an anonymous site etc but you could be getting your friend (or whoever they are to you) in a lot of trouble by disclosing information like that. Even though Caroline has since died, confidentiality still stands. Plus with the way her mum has been going after reporters etc then she may see this post and try to get more information in one way or another.

In the documentary it was confirmed he received no medical treatment though? It was in the police reports
It’s not a documentary. It’s Christine putting the blame on everyone except the person who chose to take her own life.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson informed The Independent that Burton's injuries were not considered "serious", yet he received treatment from paramedics and was transported to hospital. It was subsequently reported that he had suffered a head wound.

I don’t know, I think there was as much chance as any that she would’ve struggled hard with lockdown as we all did and not having any jobs to distract herself with. I think sadly with her history of attempts and mental health issues, if it wasn’t the attempt that ultimately led to her death that did it, it was going to be one further down the line.
Ya I agree I think lockdown wouldn’t have done her mental health any good at all. She needed to be surrounded by friends at all times and that wasn’t going to be able to happen with the restrictions in place. She probably would have felt even more lost and alone. Although the court case wouldn’t have been front page news any longer it was probably just going to drag out the enviable for her and would have given her more time to overthink but this time in total isolation.

No I agree. My point was more that female celebs seem to get away with punching their male partners/husbands. Kelly Brook also admitted to hitting Jason Statham, but she did at least get some criticism for that

Cheryl was convicted of assaulting a toilet attendant in a nightclub in 2003 and was given community service and had to pay compensation and court costs. I might be remembering this wrongly but I think she’d been charged with it being racially aggravated but was found not guilty of that element.
and she came back from it and basically became the nation’s sweetheart, on X factor etc! I can’t fathom why Caroline’s team weren’t presenting her with the same strategy. It could have kept her going to know there was a plan. Her agent was tearful in the doc but I think she let her down too by pushing endless silence if I’m honest.

it is crazy the examples we can remember of celebrity women assaulting male partners without repercussions. I guess the difference is that their partners didn’t call the police

It was the most shocking thing to hear about the poor man's death. How their mother will carry on is unimaginable to me, she has never healed from what happened to Caroline and now this. The world can be a deeply cruel place.

I feel desperately sad for them and those they've left behind.

I’ve been on the Lewis burton thread and it’s quite eye opening! He seemed to manipulate and gas light her and in fact was texting other women and moved on within 6 months of her death, posting staged pics of his hand on Lottie Tomlinson’s arse. Totally disrespectful imo!
I still think a caution would have sufficed in this instance, although many disagree with me, which is fine!
I agree that there was absolutely no sense in her Mum making this documentary. All it’s done is stir up old shit which can’t be helpful for her friends and family!
