I tend not to have an opinion on Tom either way because he’s gone now and not here to defend himself. I also get the feeling that alot of what he did in that year between his walk and his death was not overly him and more orchestrated by Hannah.

For context:

The figure represents 13.68 per cent of the charity’s total first-year income.

A salary of £150,000 would be comparable to the RSPCA, which paid its top earner £150,007 in 2021 and recorded an annual income of £142m – more than 100 times the Captain Tom Foundation’s £1.1m. That salary placed the RSPCA 98th on a list of the top 100 highest-paying charities produced last year by industry publication Third Sector.

I know that many of this saw this coming but this surely has to be the biggest, most opportunistic and most shameless grift in modern British history?

I hope there’s a Panorama or something in the works about this as I still don’t think that the scale of the awfulness has quite cut through to the Average Joe.

What a truly awful group of people.
Completely agree there should be a Panorama style investigation. It would bring the whole disgraceful saga to the wider public who are still predominantly under the Capt Tom spell. I remember this time last year voicing my misgivings about the grifter daughter and people looking at me as if I was some absolute bitch and how dare I think like that…I always knew I’d have the last laugh and be proved right. It was only a matter of time.

It’s actually quite an eye opener to the mood of the country during the pandemic that so many of us were just desperately searching for some sort of good news story that this snowballed the way it did. I’m not going to fault the money raised but all the media hype after was crazy.
When you think of those working in care homes on nmw living away from their families, those volunteering in local communities to provide services for the vulnerable and elderly that should have received far more recognition than they did it’s sickening really.

Predict Hannah's statement in response to this controversy? Still radio silence over at the Foundation.

It sounded like the worst idea for a film ever. Flashbacks to his war days maybe interspersed with shots of him struggling around the garden on his zimmer frame. Best supporting actress Oscar for whoever plays Hannah!

I also wondered at the time when Hannah talked about "trolls" was she including in that people like ourselves who had genuine concerns about the whole endeavour.
Dame Emma Thompson playing her.
Adele singing "Roll out the barrels" in any blitz scenes.

Be kind? Think of all those people who couldn't say goodbye, try to be the kind person that equally stood with them and fought for them instead of reaping hospital privileges and free holidays/VIP seats for self gratification.

Hannah used Ingram. Her husband changed his name to Ingram Moore during the height of the grift. I honestly think this is deplorable and I am wondering why people weren’t questioning this madness earlier

I think people sometimes assume if someone is a war veteran or is old, then they're a nice person... when that's not necessarily the case.
I don't know if Tom was a nice man or not, just saying people's attitudes to the elderly can be patronising, we'll all be old someday and not everyone is perfect and some people are far from it.
I've seen some old people who are arrogant tossers. Especially in the supermarket. They use the fact they're old to just ignore you. Twats.

It was suspicious from the start when Hannah set up that foundation. It's no surprise that she's siphoned off money for herself, her family and her other businesses. I never send money to charity for this reason as I don't trust them. A large portion always goes into the pockets of the executive directors. So glad that more people are seeing her for what she is - a greedy despicable woman.

Is this just speculation? I've seen nothing reported about how he treated his wife. He was married twice so which wife do you mean?
I think the poster means Captain Tom's first wife Billie. He wrote in his autobiography that their marriage was unconsumated as Billie didn't want to have sex, this went on for maybe 15 years and eventually she got involved with someone else and he divorced her. Many including myself found it tasteless, unneccessary and disrespectful to disclose such an intimate aspect of one's life in an autobiography.

If Hanna had just toned it down a bit, I don't think the accounts would be under scrutiny. But no, she had to have her son on ""celebs"" go dating or whatever wank it was, captain tom gin, tiktok, that bollocks song, the newly discovered christmas present and there's more that I can't remember. Much deserved, and a long time coming.

The thing that stands out to me with those tweets is how she refers to herself as the ‘other daughter’ which makes herself sound like the after thought. I wonder what she really thinks about all of this. Could be worse, could have renamed her business Lucy Texeira-Moore Homeopathy.
“Other daughter” wow, that there speaks volumes.
There’s a family with issues, not including the controversy over the charity fund.
