I don’t know - I’m not anti Tom like some people are. I was going through a particularly difficult time during the pandemic and hearing the story about an old man walking around his garden to raise money for the NHS was the feel good that I needed and I think a lot of people needed which helped him get where he did. And I like to think that Tom himself was doing it for selfless reasons, even though some people may laugh at me for being naive.
But his daughter has turned the whole thing sour. I think with Captain Tom it’s a thing that was only relevant at the time and trying to keep his memory alive in such a public way goes against the spirit of it and has sullied what he achieved. It would have been better to have quietly disappeared after his knighthood and maybe he would still be here if they hadn’t dragged him off on holiday. I do feel like Hannah behaved in a way that didn’t have an elderly man’s interest in mind.

Both Nick Knowles and Captain Tom were managed by the same PR company. Which beg the following questions:

1. Why would CaptainTom need a PR company and who arranged it?
2. Why would the services of a top London law firm be needed?

Not just Tom Moore's daughter...but I am sure as hell going to preface everything I write/say by telling you that I am.

No one in my life seems to give a damn about this situation but I find myself infuriated to an unreasonable level.

Why not just encourage billionaires to pay more tax rather than encouraging the working classes to donate money they need to a system they already pay into? (I know their charity isn't directly related to NHS but I refer to the initial grift).

So much in that Daily Mail article makes me want to heave. Hannah's performance at Wimbledon, lowering of flags/clapping/lighting candles/illuminating of buildings at Tom's passing (wtf?!) and the live broadcast of his funeral despite the family saying they wanted to be left alone to grieve in private!

But I'm glad that the scales are falling from peoples' eyes, especially in the village where Hannah lives. "She thinks she's a celebrity, milked her dad, property extension, hot tub, garden landscaping, pissing off her immediate neighbours, etc."

The problem with Hannah wanting to run that foundation is she is just so out of touch with what actually happens in the real world. She is in her own privileged bubble where no doubt they could afford to have carers in to help her father remain independent at home etc. I don’t believe she has it in her to understand the social care crisis in this country- the elderly people with no help or family, the ones who live alone needing help and going under the radar, the ones who can’t afford food or heat. She has no idea what’s happened in care homes especially the last few years, staff leaving because of stress and they can’t find replacements when they were understaffed to start with, staff losing jobs because they won’t get vaccinated, neglect in care homes and hospitals due to understaffing, isolation due to covid restrictions in care homes.
Elderly people stuck in hospital ready to be discharged for weeks or months but there are no care packages available because not enough staff to provide the care. I could go on, these are the tip of the iceberg and I bet Hannah in her bubble wouldn’t know about the half of it.

More absolutely needs to be done, and it’s the governments responsibility. The foundation wouldn’t have had a clue how to help anyone. Hannah would have no doubt paid hundreds of thousands in salaries to consultants (aka people she knew) for advice on issues and how to solve them when she would have been able to find this out for free by talking to any carer or anyone with a family member in a care home. In my opinion it’s really as simple as paying carers a decent wage for their work- not minimum wage, and this would go a long way to recruiting and retaining staff and make a start resolving the social care crisis. Hannah wouldn’t know that know this though as she’s never had to live on minimum wage and I doubt she ever cared for Tom a day in her life unless you class wheeling him out during a pandemic for photoshoots

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned on threads past that, if Barbados was something Captain Tom had a burning desire to do before he left this earth, then why wait 90 years to do it? He had the means to jet off there whenever he fancied!
Isn't it gratifying to finally see HIM in the spotlight she never wanted?

Exactly! He (and the family) had the means, time and money to go to Barbados at any time they so wished. It was even stated in many interviews that he travelled to Burma all by himself when he was in his 80's/90's to revisit where he served. I never understood why the Barbados trip could only be achieved during a global pandemic. I never believed the bullshit about it being on his bucket list when it could have been achieved at numerous points during his life.

The fact that media aren’t reporting this properly also speaks volumes as they colluded with it all, wonder what that gobshite Piers Morgan has to say given he was the person who hyped Sir Tom up at the start and then attacked those criticising the family for taking him to Barbados?

I’m sure there must be people around that personally knew and could tell us a few home truths, not just about Hannah and her family but about Captain Tom himself.
I’m quite sure he isn’t the goody two shoes that the media made him out to be.
I suppose no one would speak out because of the flack they would have got for insulting a national treasure

I’m not going to fault the money raised but all the media hype after was crazy.
When you think of those working in care homes on nmw living away from their families, those volunteering in local communities to provide services for the vulnerable and elderly that should have received far more recognition than they did it’s sickening really.

I found the propelling of Tom's status insane. The media were desperate for a good news story and due to many boxes that Tom ticked, they sent it into stratospheric status. There are many people who raise money for charity day in and day out and for many years but they do it quietly and without recognition. A lot of "do-gooders" jumped on the bandwagon during the pandemic just to get their face on tv and name in the paper/Internet in the hope of getting famous. I was wary of this media attention from the start and I never felt compelled to donate any money to his walk around the garden.
