I worked for more than one airline and with one of them, anyone who put on weight generally tended to be transferred to 'ground crew'.

Absolutely no comparison at all with the companies that fly long haul, you do get what you pay for.
Singapore Airlines also have these cabins in first classEtihad is the only commercial airline that has or had The Residence (with a bedroom) - even the most upscale first class cabin of any airline can't compare
Not just the service onboard, but also the service on the ground.
I couldn't agree more about BA - it's the staff. Thankfully Alex Cruz left BA last year, but too late after dragging the airline down.
Thank you for typing Qantas and not Quantas - one of my biggest bugbears, especially passengers who 'claim' to have flown on them.
Virgin Atlantic - after being made redundant from my airline, VA (or VS) is my favourite airline in business class now paying my own buck. Upper Class, IMO is far superior to BA Club World - from the Clubhouses to the service and food onboard. Plus the onboard bar.
The ME3 airlines will always be on another level as they can afford to be, but also many of the far east airlines as well as Qantas.
European airlines, the best, especially in First Class has to be Air France La Première and Lufthansa First Class. Exclusive lounges and personal assistants, to private cars to the aircraft.
My apologies, when you said 'bedroom', I immediately thought of Etihad's The Residence with a separate bedroom. You are correct that the SQ private suites can now be converted to bedrooms.

Just wanted to say I love this thread, I always wanted to be an air hostess when I was younger but never pursued it and really regret it now. An old school friend of mine is Cabin Crew with BA and pre Covid they seemed to live the most amazing life! I also loosely know of someone who worked for Emirates, comes from a very ordinary family background, but is very, very pretty. She seems ridiculously glamorous from her Instagram feed.
This thread is so interesting. Growing up I was fascinated by air travel and would have loved to have become an air hostess. We went abroad to Tenerife/Greece once a year and the airport and plane journey was always something I looked forward to for some reason. Shows like Airline were my jam. Unfortunately I never grew past 4ft11 so even if they weren’t fussy about height I think I would have really struggled to do the job. I never felt like I’d be able to cope with the fool heads you have to deal with on check in and customer service who turn up for their flight 30 mins late and still expect to be able to get on, so that was that.
Ive never travelled with any of the ‘fancy’ airlines. Just the usual budget suspects like ryanair, klm, flybe, monarch etc. Never been on easyJet though as they don’t fly from my local airport. As a kid we’d book through Thomson so would fly Britannia a lot of the time, why I remember this detail I don’t know. I thought they were fancy as a kid for some reason.

Ahhh Britannia. I still have a Lego Britannia set that you could buy on board. As a child I was always freaked out by the Monarch planes and hoped we never ended up on one, as they often had propellers **shudder**
The whole airport/aeroplane experience was my highlight too. I had the "I-Spy at the Airport" book. Took it with me every time

I’m 5ft4 and just about passed the reach test at my interview. I think I was lucky I got someone who was nice. My friend is the same height and had an interview a week later and they turned her away for being too short.
I know a lot of airlines now don’t do it on height anymore. My airline was a reach test, I think it was you had to be able to reach 6ft 2. I’m 5ft 5 and did it but I still struggle to close some of the overhead lockers

Internal Scottish flights away from the big four airports can be interesting. Barra Airport has a beach runway for a start! I flew Orkney Kirkwall to Aberdeen on a similar aircraft - with a huge sealed sack of classified books having its own seat beside me.
We were at the gate in Mumbai Airport waiting to board the Goa flight when I noticed the plane we were going to board had propellors. I absolutely refused to get on it, then had a proper panic attack and they had to remove our luggage. It cost us loads because I had not looked which plane we were travelling on and never made that mistake again. I have so much respect for cabin crew, not a job I would have for a gold clock.
When I was young we got on a propeller plane to fly from a larger Caribbean island to a smaller one. Because I was young it didn’t phase me seeing the plane because I don’t think I was paying attention but started to worry a little on board when our luggage was just in the aisle. Then my mum fell asleep but with her eyes open which I didn’t realise she did sometimes at the time.. so I was about 9 and just sobbing thinking she had died until someone woke her up! Now I have a massive fear of propeller planes and it wasn’t even the planes fault
Propellers don't bother me; they've been flying aircraft a lot longer than jet engines have.
My friend was cabin crew in the 90s…crappy local airline. Her supervisor used to check the (female) staff armpits were shaved at the start of shifts.
Even Economy with Emirates is a nice experience. I travelled with the family to Oz on holiday a few years back and I think it was my favourite journey of all my trips there. My husband was grumbling that if we didn’t have the Rugrats with us we could have travelled in Business

Years ago and long before the devastating volcanic eruption, LIAT* used to operate the short Caribbean hop between Antigua and Montserrat. No idea what model the plane was but it was tiny - 6 passengers max. I still remember the pilot taxiing to the runway with an arm rested on the open cockpit window as though just going for a comfortable drive 
Thankfully, such short flights do not cruise at altitudes that require cabin pressurization - PHEW!
