I’ve only ever flown upper & first clas we have a trip next year (fingers crossed it goes ahead!) and booked economy as my husband insisted it’s “not that bad” but I sound a bit up myself I know I’m just nervous about a new experience.
I was lucky to be flown out to Orlando with BAwith Dreamflight amazing charity!

My stepdad flew with his job long distance every week. Quantas used to give him an expensive gift at Xmas, e.g. limited edition large framed prints. He was their 7th most frequent flyer. Once I joined him for a flight and we were automatically upgraded. I was used to traveling economy and was embarrassed by the way the crew fell over themselves to be nice to my stepdad. They treated him like royalty. He was a great guy but you’d have thought he was a rock star

My dad had some sort of priority card with BA - if they'd overbooked the flight, he couldn't be chucked off it. Mum also said that it drove her mad how late they'd be getting to the airport, just about closing the aircraft doors before he got there.

That is fair enough, no problem. The only reason why I mentioned the spelling in a previous post is because Qantas was the airline I used to work for

I also have some of your stepdad's memorabilia - prints of QF aircraft throughout the ages and books on the history of the airline. Plus loads of branded items from hoodies; sweatshirts; t-shirts; bags to key rings; cooler bottles and much more. When my children were young they also had model aircraft of the 747-300 and 400.

Your stepdad must be a Platinum One Frequent Flyer. Well done him

The gifts he got didn’t necessarily have an aviation theme and weren’t branded. My favourite thing was a print of a painting of someone swimming. The year he got that he was 7th most frequent flyer.

I think numbers 1-6 must have spent pretty much every day on an aeroplane!

My husband travels business class on long haul flights for work. We live a good two hours plus drive from the airport he travels from. The airline send a Mercedes and driver to collect him from home and drop him back again at the end of his trip. It was before lockdown and I forget which airline it was. It’s free and a great service.

The last I watched was Upgrade me: Secrets of First Class. This was just a few weeks ago on Channel 5 so may still be available on catch up on My5

Prior to this I also enjoyed Heathrow: Britain's busiest Airport which was on ITV. A few years ago was A Very British Airline (BBC) - detailing BA cabin crew recruitment. Quite a few years past was Airline (BBC) again based on Heathrow, and the original I can still remember was Airline (ITV) featuring easyJet.

We flew with Brittania, think it was 1989 Gatwick to Perth Australia. Could not believe how small the plane was when I saw it on the tarmac or remember much about the flight but it was a charter holiday and it was cheap.

In 1988, these airplanes were used to begin regular charter flights from Britain to Australia, as well as to New Zealand the following year.

Oh yes, I remember those blue headphones they gave you, and there was a radio channel that kids that could listen to . I think the playlist was in the in-flight magazine so you knew when your favourite song was coming on.

There was something new about the flight I was on, it was maybe a new route but Britannia and one other charter airline was doing it that year. There was a big fanfare in the press about it being the first chartered flights to Oz rather than scheduled. I think the return to Sydney cost me about £400.

I worked at Gatwick cleaning the planes, we prepared the Virgin 747 that was doing the inaugural flight from Gatwick to Vegas. Richard Branson was coming to fly on it. We asked if we could hang around and see him and were told no,anyway after finishing we were called back to the stand and Richard was waiting for us to personally thank each one of us for doing a great job, he then lined up all the male cleaners with the Vegas girls for a photo shoot and then told us that lunch was on him. A very nice man.

I don't understand why they would insist on make up and heels these days. I saw a fly on the wall show about cabin crew training and they emphasised the importance of safety as part of their role so why not let them wear a more suitable uniform? the days of travel being glamorous are long gone.

I was on an airline a few years back and they wore trousers and flat shoes. Can't remember what airline it was. I'm always impressed at how perfect their hair and make up is.

The fight was so bumpy due to the weather, and there was a huge clap when we landed. A huge "bulla bus" excuse my Irish spelling. The plane wings were almost bouncing off the the runway as we landed. Never felt so scared! All flights from Ireland to Heathrow were cancelled after that.

I have only flown Business Class once, got upgraded on a BA flight to NY. It was unexpected. Made a big difference to how relaxed I felt on arrival. However, there were a few habitual Business Class passengers who complained about how tatty it was. When I looked up the price difference it was not worth the extra ££s.

I have flown in a helicopter a couple of times, only tourist flights. If I was rich, I would take a copter like a taxi, bugger the environment!

Going to park myself in this thread as a massive Avgeek. I have a few pilot and cabin crew friends and tbh they are just pretty sensible and responsible. They say bad behaviour has been massively cracked down on in recent years, not that it doesn't still go on, but airlines don't let stuff slide anymore.
