There were some era-defining records made during the Britpop boom, but some stinkers too. Here's ten terrible efforts that were saved by one song.www.loudersound.com
Checked the oasis-album once again, and they might be up on something. I did like Sunday morning call at that time, but now I really don’t care about it.
The other songs I mostly don’t even know though.
. I loved Head Music when it came out but I'm not sure how well it's aged (not that it has to, they have a legacy of amazing tunes).
Oh wow, Salad! But I think it was the Chart Show that got me into them, the lead singer was a vision, it was the “Motorbike to Heaven” song and video that made me fall in love and I still play that song a lot, as well as “Drink the Elixir”.
I remember Britpop clearly but because all the dickheads at my school were super into either Blur or Oasis, i pledged allegiance to bands like Geneva, Marion, These Animal Men, Dubstar…. Anyone who was on the Shine compilation really
special mention also to Curve, Toni Halliday was amazing and I loved her loads too but I think Curve would be “pre Britpop” so are technically not for this thread.
Loved the Brit Pop era, I was already into the Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets, the whole Madchester scene back in the day and then got into Oasis and Blur, Pulp etc. Was lucky enough to go to lots of gigs, including Oasis about 5 times the same for Blur and Pulp, and the likes of Ocean Colour Scene (where Paul Weller told me to piss off lol), Echobelly, Cast, Manics, Sleeper, Supergrass, great times, lots of happy memories.
Paul Weller told just about everyone to piss off back in those days
Thankfully he’s mellowed a bit (and sobered up) nowadays.

What a great thread! Makes me yearn for those days. Loved Geneva and I also LOVED Shed Seven too. So many great bands around during the Britpop years. Another favourite is Space, they were something a bit different but I would still put them in the Britpop genre

Pure and simple is such a lovely love song . I loved the music of the mid 90s but was also really into REM. Loved Radiohead as well. Just put the bends on now for a listen.
Oasis just never did it for me. Alot of nostalgia tours with this era.

Gosh remember Toni Halliday of Curve? I admired her so much when I was at school, wonder what happened to her?

Six was and still is an album that I listen to when things are really tit for me. I sing my way through the entire thing.I had read that the six tour was a bit of a tit show. One of the gigs was pure chaos wasn’t it, i vaguely remember him posting some rants and them being deleted?
I met them as a teen and they were always so lovely, Paul & Stove remembered me so i was totally lovestruck
I feel that Paul has become the has-been from Special/Blown it
What I loved about the gig, and being right at the front of it, was singing every single lyric out loud - really loud! I didn't need to read them from an iPad because I've sang them over and over for years, so I was surprised that he did! He openly admits he won't hit all the high notes and asks you to sing loud to support him for some elements - like Television.
He still does the meet and greet.

Gay Dad were alright, Joy is an absolute banger. I loved Head Music as i got into Suede when Coming Up came out so the first time i saw them was on that tour

I am almost certain that dude from Gay Dad spread the old 'removed a rib to suck myself off' rumour about himself, I'm sure of it. Nice bit of GD trivia that might well be misremembered Six is a regular on youtube pissed evenings in but it's also so great to listen to start to finish. AOTGC is too, mind. What a waste of talent, eh. I get so angry when manky band members taint the memories (again, see Ryan Adams, am still FURIOUS with that little creep). I'm sure that fact keeps them awake at night

Coercive control (Mandy Moore), suspected grooming of a 14 year old online (although the FBI NFA'd it), harassment and misuing his power and influence (Phoebe Bridgers) and I think there were a couple of other women but I haven't read the article linked below in full for a while. I remember the days when he used to use the fan forum and when he and Mandy first dated and split, he was absolutely vile about her, it was so strange as it was way before we had access to 'famous people' via Insta et al.
Obvs he blamed alcohol and showed no accountability as he's a little curd. I've also met him twice and he was dreadful both times (but sadly a great musician and great live when he wasn't hammering red wine and impersonating the Cookie Monster)
