I wonder what their father (Brian &Aoife's) makes of it. Haven't seen him in any family pics recently

I think he’s always been very quiet/private man but very supportive of them all

I just think it's a funny age for her to be doing it, like if she does want to have a family of her own, she is ruling herself out of meeting someone for the next while as she is pregnant now obviously so would just make it harder to meet someone, same for when after you have just had a baby and feel not yourself, body wise anyway, for the guts of a year after. Would understand if she was either 5 years younger or older....

Like what age are his other sisters that have had kids already? Seems like that would have been a more sensible option

tbh it doesn't have to have been discussed with a counsellor because its totally unregulated in ireland and a bit legally iffy tbh. there's no dotted line to sign! its a totally informal arrangement. maybe thats why the childless sister agreed to do it? Brian will have no legal claim to the child for a couple of years and even after that, once he gets guardianship it will have no impact on aoife's status as the child’s legal mother and guardian. for her to lose that status they'd have to go through the adoption authority which is a long and very rare process in ireland. The sisters who already have kids of their own might have been wary about the lack of regulation and the effect going through the whole process might have on their own families, i wouldn't blame them as it sounds arduous. also pregnancy and childbirth is so hard they might have just been like been there, done that, not again thanks!

Don't know why a company would ask them 2 promote anything. 2 b honest anything they would promote I'd run a mile away from it. So desperate.

Agreed. Its 2022. It’s about time the government stopped burying their heads and brought this to the forefront in the same way they did for divorce, abortion and equality. Our constitution was drawn up at a time when church and state were hand in hand and look how that turned out. I’m no legal expert but we need a good shake up of our constitution. However possible to do so, we need to start from scratch and start including all family situations which could never have been foreseen back in the day and bring our country kicking in screaming into 2022 as soon as possible.

I really can’t stand their antics and the love they have for themselves and the fawning over themselves and the constant countless gifted and paid for treatments etc. But I’m fairly sure they will probably have come at the surrogacy from all angles and made sure Aoife was entirely happy with it all. She will have deep feelings of course for the baby, but she’ll be in its life as a very close auntie. Not many surrogates could actually say that.

Brian’s face though; is it a filter he uses or is his skin really that shiny and smooth. The lips look so fake now.

I personally think being so close to the baby will be very tough. Having had a baby myself, I could never do it for someone else. I used to think I could for close family if my own family was complete but I know for sure now, I couldn’t be that selfless.

I would think a huge amount of talking, thinking and planning went into this decision but none of the 3 have been a parent and personally, that’s when I knew I could never do something like that.

I do think what Aoife is doing is amazing and same for any surrogate mothers or people who selflessly give children up for adoption, fostering etc. Families come in all shapes and sizes nowadays and rightly so. Kids aren’t for everyone. Marriage isn’t for everyone but each to their own. Once ppl are happy, it’s all that matters.

On a separate kids, ppl say Brian name drops Pippa.. I only starting following recently but what’s such a big deal about Pippa? He was famous long before her and quite frankly we have v few actual celebs in Ireland unless you count U2 maybe or Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan etc. The insta hungry ppl aren’t exactly celebs or maybe I’m missing something.

I think what she's doing is amazing but she must have the patience of a saint. I get it's their baby but I would lose it having my brother and his partner constantly touching the bump, like it's still her body. It's overkill in my opinion.

Fair play to his sister but what if this is the only chance she’ll ever get to have a baby? Some people struggle massively with fertility after having a first baby. And other factors causing her not to have another pregnancy. And this one won’t be really hers because somebody else very close to home will rear the child. She’ll be the aunt. I’d be worried for her mental health if it never happened again for her God forbid. It would be devestating and maybe resentment could ensue.

Absolutely. But one common theme running through the thread is that we all agree what a selfless and kind act it is. And like him or loathe him, she must have some relationship with Brian (&Arthur) to want to do it for him. I genuinely hope it works out for them all.

Seriously don't think either of them know seats ahead of them. Dowling doesn't drive and sleeps all day and Arfur will literally be left holding the baby. Where is income coming From? Do they own that house?
