I really don't like Brian McFadden at all, I wish others from Westlife were involved more in the show.

He laughs and seems so offended by talking about Kerry. Say what you will about her, but he wasn't there at all to bring up their kids. I think his daughters have spent more time with his parents than him over the years.

Westlife are so much better without him.

Robbie is so likeable, reflective and articulate. It's a miracle he didn't and up in the gutter permanently.

Heh the post above disagrees. I think that's true to some extent, but I think the difference for me is Robbie is self aware which makes him more endearing to me.

I just watched that part and came on to say the same thing. Seemed cruel.
He cheated at his stag as well

i thought the exact same. he came across so badly - he spoke about her and their life together like it had just been a complete joke to him and (like you say) he almost sounded offended by it. their poor daughters. i’m no fan of kerry but i can absolutely see how he did a number on her self-esteem.

Respect to Louis, he's a total bitch, but my God he owns it! Whereas Ronan's a bitch, but desperately tries to cover it up 🤣
Ronan and Louis only fell out due to a clash of ego’s not because of how Louis treated the band. They are 2 cheeks of the same arse and more alike than Ronan would admit!

Ronan clearly isn’t daft and got in with Louis at the very start in turn fucking Mikey over who was then relegated to the back with Shane and Keith. I’ve only seen episode 1 but I was heartbroken for poor Mikey!

Finished all episodes, the third one was so sad when they start talking about Stephen’s death. Can tell how much it still affects them. Love the boys, feel sorry for Mikey, hate Louis! I also think it’s him that sold the story as well now!

Watching episode 3 now and I SWEAR I saw Will Young during the “This Morning Boy Band” section.

I think my main takeaway from the series is how bloody sad it was that they were all worked like dogs with absolutely no care for their physical or mental wellbeing. They burned out and were spat out. The fact so many have been left dead, addicted, haunted (and in the case of E17) absolutely skint is tragic. Especially since this was all filmed before Liam Payne’s death.

I’m a 90’s teenager who lived for boys bands so this was right up my street. My number one band were (and still are) Boyzone so the lack of coverage on them was disappointing to say the least. However, I was also a big fan of East 17 and I always feel they get overlooked when it comes to nostalgia on 90’s music. I really enjoyed seeing Tony, Terry and John taking part and being interviewed. I saw Tony being interviewed last year when the Lidl Christmas advert was released with the take on Stay Another Day. He said he only agreed to it if proceeds went to charity, so Tony is a good ‘un 👍🏻

Gary, Mark and Howard did their own retrospective in a program with Dermot O’Leary which I am sure is still available on iPlayer. Perhaps they feel there wasn’t anything new or different to add on this show.

I think with hindsight we can all see that there just wasn’t room for both Gary and Robbie in the same band. Personally I don’t see one as being better than the other, they’ve both had incredible highs and lows over the last 30 years. Yet, here we are in 2024 and both still sell out arenas and stadiums with music that’s 30 years old. There’s room for them both - Robbie and Take That. Happy days!

There‘s so much to unpick with life in the 90’s. The control by the media is absolutely insane, and it wasn’t just boybands. Everyone who was remotely famous either had their life changed or destroyed by the press. Pop stars, sports stars, soap actors, politicians, the royal family, you name it, they all had their lives made a misery. One thing I do love about the 90’s is the lack of botox and lip fillers, what a time to be alive!

This will probably out me, as everyone I know knows this story….but Robbie called me a ‘sad cow’ outside the Dominion Theatre around the time of Could it be Magic and broke my heart. Mum wanted to break his nose and tried to call NMS to complain 😆🙈

The bit that stood out to me in Robbie’s post to Nigel was that he believes he would have been an addict no matter what job he had but fame just made it happen quicker.
An interesting point

So Sean did leave Five? I had a vague memory that he had, but I’d long outgrown boy bands by then so I wasn’t sure. Very weird to not mention it, especially since he was interviewed for the show.

Very surprising that no one from Boyzone wanted to appear. Considering how big they were, it doesn’t seem right to gloss over them.

What a knob McFadden is. It’s one thing to be embarrassed about someone you had a fling with or briefly dated when you were young, but to be so vile about Kerry when he married her and had two children with her is a really disgusting thing to do to his daughters.

Danielle Westbrook was so pretty back in the day, it’s so sad how she’s ruined herself and how much she must have suffered. Fair play to her for still putting herself out there as I’m sure she gets a lot of abuse for it.

Robbie came across well, even tho I still do think he’s a bit of a twat 🤣 Also like E17, they’re such down to earth blokes.

I always had a soft spot for Lee from 911 and people used to take the piss out of me for it, but he’s looking very good these days!! A lot better than some others for sure!

I think E17 not getting paid and Simon Cowell basically saying you can’t have everything, just put up with the crap if you want to be famous and successful, sums up the industry. Not many people involved gave/give a shit about the lads’ wellbeing, they just want the power and money. No wonder so many of them are messed up with drugs and mental health issues.

Mad that Never Forget is such an amazing career defining song for TT and it’s Howard on lead vocals. He really picked his moment!

Binged watched this all last night, really interesting. I love hearing Robbie Williams talk about his experiences in Take That and stardom in general...just so much insight and he's obviously really worked on himself and had masses of therapy. I feel he's in a better place but in some respects still a bit tortured and has his demons. As someone mentioned upthread, his Netflix documentary is great and he really goes into a lot of detail. I never liked Gary Barlow as a teen, from the off. Yes, a very talented musician and song-writer but at times he stuck out like a sore thumb and never had the charisma and the others propped him up from that respect.

Scott from Five really got to me - even now he looks like a broken man with PTSD galore. I wanted to hug him and Sean. The story about Sean and Robbie Williams reaching out to me was lovely, as Robbie just knew what Sean was going through. Ritchie from Five came across really well. I like that Chris Herbert (Five's creator / manager) put his hands up and said that they got it wrong in terms of the mental health / wellbeing support that wasn't provided to the lads.

The lack of Boyzone was very obvious, but I guess no one wanted to talk or appear on the show. Brian McFadden still irks me to this day. His refusal to talk about Kerry or even mention her just said everything about him. Louis Walsh looked really dodgy. His comment about the band Damage was rather telling; of course he would never be able to see it from their perspective about why they had a bigger mountain to climb.

Really enjoyed the Boyzone doc! (Found it on Daily motion for free for anyone without Sky!)

However my sympathy for any of them wained towards the end. Their huge egos were ultimately the reason they broke up in 2019. Fans go to a Boyzone concert for nostalgia and pop music, not because these guys are the best singers. If their egos weren't quite so overblown, they could have stayed in their lane similar to Westlife and could still be touring.

I think if they were honest, carrying on after Stephen's death was financially motivated. For Ronan to say he regretted carrying on for the next 10 years is a bit of an insult to the fans who have supported them.

Respect to Louis, he's a total bitch, but my God he owns it! Whereas Ronan's a bitch, but desperately tries to cover it up 🤣
