Ahhh see I have very fractured memories of the boy band era as I was 20 in 1997 but also was having a baby! It was height of the spice girls cos my sister used to call me “pregnant spice” 😂
Perfect Gentlemen was out around the time I met my husband and it reminds me so much of those times. I still know every word. Also Big Brovaz “favourite things” was our honeymoon song….. (I “married up”- I was a young single mum in a council flat and married an older man with an extremely good job/ own house etc- 25 years later we’re still going strong but those songs were our ironic iconic anthems- see also Thong song 😂)
Ha I love favourite things and thong song also dance for me Sisqo was the best!

I really don't like Brian McFadden at all, I wish others from Westlife were involved more in the show.

He laughs and seems so offended by talking about Kerry. Say what you will about her, but he wasn't there at all to bring up their kids. I think his daughters have spent more time with his parents than him over the years.

Westlife are so much better without him.
He's an a. At the time he said he was leaving the band to be with his family and his kids etc, next thing you know he's gone solo, split from Kerry and moved to Australia. His eldest daughter moved to Ireland a few years back and went to secondary school over here, I think so she could do her leaving cert and lived with his parents. I think she might still be here.

I'd say the others didn't do the show because they're still in the band and tbh didn't have many issues it would seem. They did so much better without him. They were together longer as 4 than they were as 5.

Nicky started up a podcast and the first person he interviewed was Brian. I haven't listened to it but from what I've/ heard I don' think he went too easy on him.
---
I just watched that part and came on to say the same thing. Seemed cruel.
He cheated at his stag as well
I've also heard that both Brian and Kerry were off their heads on it at their wedding so he's not one to be judging her.

Oh I loved Big Brovaz!
They were part of a game on Never Mind The Buzzcocks recently of guessing in a lineup who wasn’t a member. I felt slightly pathetic I got every one correct instantly 🤣

Well that was a trip down memory lane a couple of things stuck out for me ..Brian,Kerry is the mother to two of your children you could just have said your grateful as the relationship meant you become a dad.
Secondly Robbie seems to have actually done work to get through his 'demons' and want to be free of the past.
Finally the managers, music companies don't seem to have come that far in supporting their acts and knowing how to support them through the fame because money for them still comes above everything else.

20 mins left and there's no mention of Blazin Squad. The hold they had over me (after 5ive, of course) was unreal. I fear it may be a more niche adoration than I'd thought 😂😂

Watching episode 3 now and I SWEAR I saw Will Young during the “This Morning Boy Band” section.

I think my main takeaway from the series is how bloody sad it was that they were all worked like dogs with absolutely no care for their physical or mental wellbeing. They burned out and were spat out. The fact so many have been left dead, addicted, haunted (and in the case of E17) absolutely skint is tragic. Especially since this was all filmed before Liam Payne’s death.

I think they mentioned somewhere that a couple of the Blue boys were in a boyband with Will Young and somebody else that didn’t take off and they did extensive market research to find out who they needed/type of music etc. Awful that Simon had to cut his hair, such a beautiful man. Blue definitely seem to have aged better than others.

Weird that the commentator never even mentioned about Will Young being there in that This Morning search for a boyband. I know he’s not from a boyband but he was still famous in the era this documentary was covering so a cursory mention of ‘yes that is Will Young before he found fame on Pop Idol’ wouldn’t have gone amiss

I think that was mentioned in the captions on the Boybands At The BBC compilation

I thought when they were talking about Westlife’s first lineup, they would mention Simon didn’t want Shane so Louis dyed his hair and changed his image to fool him
