is this possibly the worst batch of monthly kindle deals ever?!?

Conversely, I've just browsed them and I've seen about 10 I want....which is also bad because I shouldn't be buying any more books

Going to begin a big Harry Potter re-read all the way through.

I've been really struggling with reading the last few years because of life events but I can do okay with old favourites.

I've not read the series all the way through since book seven came out, it will be interesting to see how my views on characters and relationships have changed. I've already gone from someone who thought Ron/Hermione was a fun, cool ship to not being able to stand in and agreeing with JK that they'd probably be in marriage counselling. I always wish Harry/Luna had happened, that could have been very sweet. I did not like Ginny at all from around book five onwards.

My favourite characters overall were/are Mcgonagall and Snape.

I did a reread this year thanks to the Audible cast versions and like you I hadn't done a full reread since Book 7 came out. I was pleasantly reminded of all the extra details that the films cut out. And because it had been long enough since a full read, it was a bit like reading them for the first time again.

I hope your reread gets you back onto reading

I think there would be a lot of very unhappy relationships in the wizard world. There is a limited pool of people to date of your own age and the society is very reactionary and conservative in some respects. I don't think we ever meet a characters with divorced parents, step siblings, adults who are together but not married... So it seems like there is social pressure to confirm and get married and stay married.

Some people get lucky and marry someone from another country or marry a muggle, but I think people would really struggle to meet a SO if they haven't already identified them by time school was done.

Hehe I am reading way to much into this.

I haven't been able to read HP for a long time. I read it so much as a teenager, I would sometimes finish the book and immediately start reading it again. I was also on a lot of the fan forums and discussing every single aspect of every book.

When i tried to read them as an adult, i felt like i had 'worn the story out', I knew what lines were coming up and exactly what would happen next. It was likw trying to read any book that was a set text at ALevel after the exam is done. You can't see the story, just the analysis.

Anyway maybe i will try again one day. The new audio books sound interesting. I didn't really like Stephen Fry doing them originally, always thought he was a bit twee.

The Audible versions with the cast are superb, I think, it might help you having them essentially performed to you. There are also sounds and bits of music and I mostly listened whilst driving to work and walking at weekends, and it did immerse me, especially in the darker books where serious peril is occurring Might be worth a try.

It’s crossed my mind to read Harry Potter again too. I just don’t wanna buy them all on kindle to do it and I know using the physical book will mean I pick it up a lot less often.

no immediate buys on the 99p deals for me either, but i always like hearing which ones have been popular on this thread for inspiration. There’s a Lisa Jewell one and a Liz nugent one I might opt for, and one called attached (about attachment styles) which I’m vaguely curious about but I find self help type books a bit of a trudge.
I who have never known men was a good read. I loved normal people by Sally Rooney but honestly preferred the show (that may be a rewatch!). First time caller is on there too and I enjoyed that

The Adults by Alison Espach. I liked Wedding People and Notes On Your Sudden Disappearance. The Adults was written in 2011. Just didn't like it, so I gave up halfway.

This is 99p as well, swiftly removed this from my potentials

I don't really care about themed reading lists but Goodreads' list of books coming out in September put me in the mood for some creepy stuff for autumn. The Unknown my Riley Sager is on my list now.

Has anybody here read Klara and The Sun? I’ve just watched the movie trailer, wondering if it’s worth reading the book? Thanks!

the tone of the book is very different. I was so surprised by the trailer and its peppiness. Its got a lot of sadness in the book.

Trying to be vague and not spoil, I thought there were a few points in Klara and the Sun where you had to think about what was actually going on as you only had it described via Klara, and she does not have a full understanding of everything around her and has a unique way of looking at things. The film may make it to obvious
