I don’t think I’ve got another book in me this weekend, and I’m holding out some decent kindle deals!
My May reads
Project Hail Mary - Andy weir. I’d say 7/10, I liked it but it’s not my usual type. I listened on audible and that meant I struggled really as I lose focus too much with them.
Big Swiss - Jen beagin 7/10. It was sort of engaging but not enjoyable if that makes sense. Already I’ve forgotten how it ended!
The survivor wants to die at the end - Adam silvera. 5/10. I really enjoyed the first two but this one seemed to drag quite a lot and god I hated the ending.
Dark places - Gillian Flynn. 7/10 Good story, found it really engaging and didn’t have a clue how it was going to end but I struggled to read a lot of it at a time ( this is a continuing theme for me lately, I used to be able to spend hours solidly reading but haven’t been able to for ages!)
Constance - matthew fitzsimmons 8/10. A good story, enjoyed the concept, found it really interesting. Quite enjoy a dystopian trope.

5 books read, my unread books on kindle are now at 21, though some of them seem so inspiring that I’m tempted to just delete rather than power through.

☀my may reads☀ (would have been more but butter seemed to take me about a decade to read for some reason):

in the veins of the drowning - kalie cassidy ⭐⭐⭐
in the weeds - bk borrison ⭐⭐
legend of the white snake - sher lee 🐍 🐍🐍
custom of the country - edith wharton ⭐⭐⭐⭐
where the forest meets the stars - glendy vanderah ⭐
butter - asako yuzuki ⭐⭐⭐⭐

i hated where the forest meets the stars almost as much as i hated where the crawdads sing and i’m sad it’s on kindle because i can’t throw it in my donation bag in the manner it deserves 🫠

she’s so amazingly awful that i admired her a bit 🤣 her poor parents!! it’s a reread but it’s been so long that it was basically a new read - i love anything set in new york around that timeframe.

I thought it probably was a reread - remembered us discussing it when I read it last year! Just so unrepentant, but you're right, you have to be impressed.

she had a goal and she stuck to it - no shame whatsoever (i also loved all the parts where she suddenly was like oh wait! don’t i have a son? i should probably do something about that? nevermind!) 🙌🏻

big blugh for May reading. I read one book, for Book Club, nearly, I cheated the last few chapters by asking Chat for the story, as it was so boring and not doing anything for my reading slump. However June is looking up, I’m half way through a Jilly Cooper Rutshire romp ☺

Cleaning the bookshelves did a world of good, maybe Marie Kondo knew what she was about when she was 'waking up' the books. Good to remember what I have to read!

Just looked up where the forest meet the stars, I read it a few years ago but really enjoyed it lol. I liked where the cardads sings too so maybe we just have the exact opposite taste 🤣

Ahhhhhhhhh, I got halfway through my book and it’s a great book like I’m really enjoying it but I abandoned it midweek and I am really struggling to get back into it. I am DETERMINED to finish it before the week is out. It’s the one condition to my being allowed to go new kindle deals day shopping on Monday.

If I do this I find books I've bought and forgotten to read, the record being twelve.
I know I recently bought a big book. Think it was the sequel to A Woman Of Substance. I'll probably find it in the bowels of my bookcases when I clean them.🤭😏

Okay, so I finished “I let her in”. Was a war of contrition if I’m honest with you.

Now reading Entitled by Andrew Lownie. I hope William and Catherine are taking note. I an see how so wrong the royal family get with the second sons

My daughter bought me this today.

I'm very much not a physical, especially a hardback, reader these days as the font is normally too small but this is perfect.

I really loved Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo so looking forward to this, sounds very different.

And...my daughter spent £80 in Waterstones and I got her stamps 🥳

I’ve dnfed this! I’m so sad about it as I loved the others but maybe my hot state has made it more difficult to focus on 🤣 it’s probably me and not the book!

Eeekkk. I'm hoping his writing alone is enough to keep me going. I did read the blurb and actually thought WTF is this about 🤣
