It’s readable. But it’s really not the great piece of writing it’s been depicted as, and at the end you’ll just wonder what all the hype was about, and then realise the hype was about getting Matt Haig back in the writing game and supporting him.Oh tit, I’ve been gifted the special edition of itballs

I just cannot read. I tried and failed to read the new Donal Ryan. I usually love his writing but I had to abandon it halfway through. I want to cosy under a blanket with tea and a book. I cannot with this

It's been the opposite for me. Reading has been a nice distraction/sleeping aid for when I'm tossing and turning in an overheated bedroom.
I just read Rob Rinder's The Protest (Book 3) and while I 'enjoyed it' I would give it 3 stars as it seemed a bit repetitive of the first 2 books and the characters are getting a bit bland (I rated Book 1 as 5 stars but in hindsight probably should have been a 4). And Adam's interactions with his mother seem to be random inserts that don't advance the plot. There's been a Book 4 released and I will probably try it but if it ends up being a bit bland and too similar to the rest then I think I'm done with the series. The Book 3 ending was disappointing to me.

I have read this series, and it started with a lot of potential to be really good. But I agree it's just repetitive, I feel like the main characters aren't developing and growing as characters. They just seem to stay very much the same in each book. It's just all a bit meh.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought Book 1 was great but because it was successful he's now cranking them out 1 a year but not really crafting them well. I may still try Book 4 but it's certainly not high on my TBR.

Book 1 was really good but they seem to be getting worse and feel a bit rushed. I dont understand the mother bit either, its like a side plot that goes nowhere.
I read the blurbs on this series a while ago to see if I fancied them.
I know this is probably petty but I don't get why these mega high profile cases involving huge public figures would all be assigned to a trainee barrister with almost no experience.
I'm getting a bit sick of minor TV celebrities playing novelist, as well, altough unlike most of them I imagine Rob Rinder is capable of actually writing a book and not just slapping his name on some pile of rubbish churned out by a ghostwriter.
To read I seem to clamp my arms to my sides to hold the book up, which makes me combust after a while.
Also happens when I hold my phone to scroll, etc.
I try to do the starfish to keep cool, which means walking around like a coat hanger like those buff blokes in the gym do.
I’ve just pre ordered the paperback of The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion vol. 1 after giving in to the hype
I have this on hold at the library, looking forward to reading it!
Ooh interesting on the Rob Rinder. I’ve been listening to Book 3 and felt the same. But they pass the time well enough when I don’t have much brain.
I bought this book today and I think this will be a next relaxing read when I come round to reading it.
Yeah, sometimes this is what you need. I'm just a bit annoyed I bought this as hardback last year and only just got to it and kind of wish I had bought it as a cheaper paperback or ebook
I need to stop buying hardbacks as a knee jerk reaction and then not get round to reading them for ages... some I can wait for paperback (is what I need to tell myself).Hardbacks need to be for authors I know I will love the book
I went a bit crazy last year with some new releases and actually a lot of these I could have waited for. I've not been as bad this year, have definitely bought less. I am still working through the ones I brought last year. There's a couple of Janice Hallet books I got as hardback too, The Examiner and the other new one, which by the time I get to them I could have waited for the paperbacks, too.
I need to remember with these new releases that the supply isn't going to run out quickly. I don't need to buy well in advance of reading.

I finished listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl book 8 today. I am all caught up now.
I am a big audio book fan. When I am finish listening to a long series I feel a bit lost. The characters have been yapping away every time I walked somewhere or did housework for almost 3 months. I will pick something else to listen to soon, but not quite sure what.

I have been so curious about this series! There's so much hype online. A few reviews mentioned there's historical anachronisms and I am not sure whether that would annoy me
