Is there a way to add multiple Kindle books to a basket and pay all at once? All the 99p transactions I did earlier I was worried my account would be flagged for fraud

How many books have you read (if you set yourself a target are you on track?): 28, no target, just tracking out of curiosity

Pages Read/Hours listened (if you track):

Favourite read so far: It’s been a fairly tit year but Jilly Cooper’s Rivals was probably the highlight

Least favourite read so far: Ali Hazelwood -Mate

Book that surprised you (can be good or bad): I picked up The Birds and the Bees (Milly Johnson) in Tesco and imagine my surprise to find it’s a book I originally read nearly 20 years ago and it’s just been republished with a different cover 😅 loved the re-read though!

Book you're looking forward to read between July-December: ACOTAR 6

Anything else? Have you had a lot of 5 star books? Or have you mostly read duds?: A sea of crap unfortunately. Special mention to 25 Library Terrace which is very heavily pushed on social media and is fairly mediocre.

Oooooh I shared my embarrassment at having to explain my dozens of €.99c transatlantics to bank customer support staff a few wks ago and someone said they buy Amazon gift cards and use them. One card for twenty quid is one single transaction on your bank statement but can can be used to purchase twenty different 99p books etc. I just can’t recall who shared this clever strategy !

Probably me as I buy an Amazon gift card.

I used to work at the bank I have my account with so I know full well what my ex colleagues are looking at 🤭

I’ve done this in the past but it wasn’t me who shared it here

How many books have you read (if you set yourself a target are you on track?): 23 - no target, I track for fun

Pages Read/Hours listened (if you track):
8,445 according to StoryGraph

Favourite read so far:
Slow Horses by Mick Herron - picked it up having watched the TV adaptation and loved the book so much more.

Least favourite read so far:
Swept Away by Beth O’Leary. Boring.

Book that surprised you (can be good or bad):
The Wager by David Grann - I was reading on kindle and it had a high percentage left to read so I was surprised when it ended! It was the appendices.

Book you're looking forward to read between July-December:
So many! I really want to read The Will of the Many but have been waiting to give it a fair chance.

Anything else? Have you had a lot of 5 star books? Or have you mostly read duds?:
My only 5 star so far has been Prima Facie, no real duds yet! I’m balancing comfort and challenge with my moods and work, so finding some of the more challenging reads a bit harder. I also have Audible on trial again so I’m enjoying walking with a book at the moment.

My June reads - bit of a mix this month. More novels than usual due to taking advantage of three free months of kindle unlimited - which I actually got to read two non fictions I wanted to read but still haven’t 🙄🙈

How many books have you read (if you set yourself a target are you on track?): 25 of 26 which is my goal. currently reading number 26 and 50% through that. I’ve read every day for the last 122 days and I don’t want to break my Fable streak!

Pages Read/Hours listened (if you track):

Favourite read so far: hmm tough one, probably Tomorrow x3, House of Earth and Blood or Writers and Lovers.

Least favourite read so far: The Change by Kirsten Miller. I’d never pick it up if it wasn’t my book clubs choice. The premise was interesting but badly executed.

Book that surprised you (can be good or bad): probably the one I’m reading now. Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez. My first by her and I know she gets hype, but I’m not really a romance girly. I’ve read some Emily Henry, Ali Hazelwood and Ashley Poston and found them meh other than 7 year slip. But I think this is really well written and will probably pick up more Abby J.

Book you're looking forward to read between July-December: a few! Yesteryear to see what the hype’s about, The Secret History in Autumn and the Frozen River which has been on my TBR for ages. I also plan to continue the Beartown series. As well as Alchemised around Halloween too I think.

Anything else? Have you had a lot of 5 star books? Or have you mostly read duds?: lots of good reads this year so far. I’ve branched out of my genres too this year

I really enjoyed Slow Horses the book after watching the series. The series is great but the book was so readable.

Thanks to whoever recommended 'The Tent, the bucket and me'. I added to my wishlist and it has just gone on sale for 99p. Have bagged it.

I’ve finally finished the audiobook of The Lost Passenger by Frances Quinn. Really nicely narrated but i find audiobooks such a slog i was glad to finally finish it! It’s hard work finding the time and i’m definitely more of a visual person.

Off to the library today to get my kids to rejoin after we borrowed a load of books several years ago and moved house and lost half of them and didn’t give them back 😬 hopefully i won’t get shouted at 🤣

I've just bought some books and want to take some on holiday. Which would you guys recommend out of the ones I got? Chestnut Springs series (1st two books), Vancouver Stork series (1st two books) or a court of thorns and roses (1st book). I'll probably take 2 books with me

Yes I’ve had that happen. Where I’ve bought too many 0.99 books straight after each other and my credit card company blocked my card for suspected fraud.

How many books have you read (if you set yourself a target are you on track?): 47. No target, just reading for fun.

Pages Read/Hours listened (if you track): N/A

Favourite read so far: Probably The Favourites by Layne Fargo, I read it around the time of the Winter Olympics which added to it. I also finally read Remarkably Bright Creatures which I just adored. And The God of the Wood by Liz Moore, fantastic read.

Least favourite read so far: The Correspondent - I had heard so many good things about it and was expecting a banger of a book but it just didn't do it for me

Book that surprised you (can be good or bad): A Court of Thorns and Roses, I am not a fantasy girl at all but I actually quite enjoyed this one.

Book you're looking forward to read between July-December: The only thing I am looking forward to is making a significant dent in my TBR pile

Anything else? Have you had a lot of 5 star books? Or have you mostly read duds?: its been a pretty decent year so far, there are so many really good books out there now, the quality of writing and diversity in storytelling and non fiction is the best its ever been. What a great time to be a bookworm.

The Man Carrying Things youtube channel has an interesting video on The Count of Monte Cristo called "Litslop" & gen Z's new favourite book

I think some here will like (whether or not you've read the book, whether or not you like it!) He touches on the way books are talked about on social media and on Classic novels generally.

Slight tangent, but the word "slop" is starting to piss me off. It's been run into the ground at this point.

In the comments a lot of folk are dissing Dickens for being too long and wordy but here I am loving Dickens' books 😅 He wrote dialogue really well, his Victorian characters are sterotypical but fun, to me, and the plot of the books are often thought provoking.

I also think regarding longer Classics, we forget that this was entertainment in times before music records and TV. Weekly novel serials and books were literally one of the few things people had to look forward to in their free time 😅 so of course they were long and took a while to complete.

Agreed! I started on Dickens quite young as I was a pretty avid reader and often ran out of books to read (pre Kindle). My dad had a whole set of Dickens signed by someone (cant remember who but was an author (not Dickens)). I loved a lot of them, Nicholas Nickleby, Christmas Carol, Great Exoectations and David Copperfield. I also read a lot of Monica Dickens books (think she was his granddaughter) and I actually still love some of hers today, she has the same dry wit and humour that her grandad had.
