Is there a way to add multiple Kindle books to a basket and pay all at once? All the 99p transactions I did earlier I was worried my account would be flagged for fraud
Oooooh I shared my embarrassment at having to explain my dozens of €.99c transatlantics to bank customer support staff a few wks ago and someone said they buy Amazon gift cards and use them. One card for twenty quid is one single transaction on your bank statement but can can be used to purchase twenty different 99p books etc. I just can’t recall who shared this clever strategy !Is there a way to add multiple Kindle books to a basket and pay all at once? I’ve done this in the past but it wasn’t me who shared it hereOooooh I shared my embarrassment at having to explain my dozens of €.99c transatlantics to bank customer support staff a few wks ago and someone said they buy Amazon gift cards and use them. I really enjoyed Slow Horses the book after watching the series. The series is great but the book was so readable. How many books have you read (if you set yourself a target are you on track?): 23 - no target, I track for fun
Pages Read/Hours listened (if you track): 8,445 according to StoryGraph
Favourite read so far: Slow Horses by Mick Herron - picked it up having watched the TV adaptation and loved the book so much more.
Least favourite read so far: Swept Away by Beth O’Leary. Boring.
Book that surprised you (can be good or bad): The Wager by David Grann - I was reading on kindle and it had a high percentage left to read so I was surprised when it ended! It was the appendices.
Book you're looking forward to read between July-December: So many! I really want to read The Will of the Many but have been waiting to give it a fair chance.
Anything else? Have you had a lot of 5 star books? Or have you mostly read duds?: My only 5 star so far has been Prima Facie, no real duds yet! I’m balancing comfort and challenge with my moods and work, so finding some of the more challenging reads a bit harder. I also have Audible on trial again so I’m enjoying walking with a book at the moment.
Yes I’ve had that happen. Where I’ve bought too many 0.99 books straight after each other and my credit card company blocked my card for suspected fraud. Is there a way to add multiple Kindle books to a basket and pay all at once? Slight tangent, but the word "slop" is starting to piss me off. It's been run into the ground at this point. The Man Carrying Things youtube channel has an interesting video on The Count of Monte Cristo called "Litslop" & gen Z's new favourite book
I think some here will like (whether or not you've read the book, whether or not you like it!) He touches on the way books are talked about on social media and on Classic novels generally.
In the comments a lot of folk are dissing Dickens for being too long and wordy but here I am loving Dickens' booksThe Man Carrying Things youtube channel has an interesting video on The Count of Monte Cristo called "Litslop" & gen Z's new favourite book

Agreed! I started on Dickens quite young as I was a pretty avid reader and often ran out of books to read (pre Kindle). My dad had a whole set of Dickens signed by someone (cant remember who but was an author (not Dickens)). I loved a lot of them, Nicholas Nickleby, Christmas Carol, Great Exoectations and David Copperfield. I also read a lot of Monica Dickens books (think she was his granddaughter) and I actually still love some of hers today, she has the same dry wit and humour that her grandad had.In the comments a lot of folk are dissing Dickens for being too long and wordy but here I am loving Dickens' booksHe wrote dialogue really well, his Victorian characters are sterotypical but fun, to me, and the plot of the books are often thought provoking.
I also think regarding longer Classics, we forget that this was entertainment in times before music records and TV. Weekly novel serials and books were literally one of the few things people had to look forward to in their free timeso of course they were long and took a while to complete.
It has! I reserve it for “AI-slop” in my own vocab. Because that’s when I think it’s most accurateSlight tangent, but the word "slop" is starting to piss me off. It's been run into the ground at this point.
