The time travellers wife was the first ‘adult’ book I choose to read and it was defiantly 20 ish years ago. I loved it at the time but haven’t re-read it

Mostly 99p deals, charity shops or free from the library. Unless its a book I really really want to read and can't wait another minute, which doesnt happen too much as quite often I will request from the library and wait for my turn!
I'm a charity/second hand shopper. I have a bit of a list in my head of what I am looking for and the charity gods normally deliver.
If they don't then I try the library or 'world of books'. I can't think of the last book I bought full price from a book shop!
I also do shop 99p kindle deals.
I see my TBR pile as my own personal library so if I don't find something that's been recommened that I am looking for then I have enough to keep me going!

Tempted to choose A Heart For Christmas as my worst book but maybe it’s just the one I remember being awful so recently 😁

I thought the same too. Problem is if I really really hate a book I just DNF it and cant really remember them. That one sticks in my mind though because it was sooooo terrible and quite recent

Same! Intermezzo I just put down, maybe that was the worst. But I struggled through that damn advent book.

I’m going to retreat to the comfort of a Jilly Cooper 🥰

I wish I’d DNF’d Babel. I’ve never disliked something so much

every time someone mentions the time travellers wife i just think of the fact that the lead character goes back in time to give his teenage self a bj and i wonder why absolutely no editor told her that was bad plot idea 🤣
WHAT 😭😭 Swiftly knocked off my imaginary to-read list thank you for the heads up lmao

I don't know why but I really dislike films/books where someone time travels and it affects their timeline etc. i hated the lakehouse, and i have avoided the time traveller's wife as well. But this sounds like another reason not to read it.
My husband loves Back to the Future but it winds me up 😅

I just dislike that sort of plot, unfortunately

Babel has been sitting unread on my Kindle for sooo long now because I see nothing but awful reviews of it! Maybe one day I’ll give it a go.

My most hated nominations would be All Fours by Miranda July - just a load of self indulgent unreliable tosh! And maybe controversially I’d also say Twlight. It’s been that long since I read it I can’t remember any specific reasons why, but I know my overwhelming feeling was anger that someone was making so much money from writing such rubbish!

Worst ever book for me is The Autograph Man by Zadie Smith. She's written some good books but this is beyond atrocious. See also anything by Sally Rooney, she cannot write for tit.

I’ve got Katabasis sat on mine, it’s like I’m a glutton for punishment and didn’t learn from my past mistakes 😂 Working up the courage to start it at some point.

i hated babel but have also purchased katabasis for some reason 🤣 i blame whoever does her covers as her books always look beautiful!

i never realised footnotes could make me angry until i read babel but apparently they can.

I’ve almost been lured back in to Kuang by sprayed edges but fortunately Babel annoyed me enough to stop me completing any purchases.

The worst book I've ever read is 'The Family at Number 12' by Anita Waller. A friend picked it for our book club, having already read it, and it was so bad it made me question our friendship.

I was about to post basically the same thing, I thought I had a good memory.. alas not.
to my memory it’s only heavily implied in the book (but obvious if you know what you’re looked for) but happens in plain sight in the tv show 🤣

also while i’m here my absolute least favourite books ever are:

it ends with us (had covid reading it, preferred covid).
the happy ever after playlist (abbey jimenez i will never forgive you).
creation lake (i donated this to the tesco bookshelf and i see someone has picked it up. i would like to apologise to that person).
all the colours of the dark (it just made me angry).

and, of course, where the crawdads sing. which is, at this point, basically part of the foundations of my house. sometimes i need to move something near the bookshelf i know it resides behind and i hiss at it. awful book.

My lowest rated books on Goodreads are

Normal People - Sally Rooney - so bad that I didn’t even finish it!
Cows - Matthew Stokoe
My Husband - Maud Ventura
The Unworthy - Agustina Bazterrica
The Church Beneath the Roots - Felix Blackwell
