That’s a grammar thing. Because the word starts on the previous line it’s hyphenated to show it continues on to the next line
Yeah, I know that, but my problem with the hyphenated words are that they are appearing in the middle of a line on my Kindle!

I had surgery today. Came back to Tattle just now and see this thread has grown by 4 pages. Never in my wildest dreams did I think dino-erotica would feature. 🫣

As of early 2026, a film adaptation of Clare Leslie Hall's novel Broken Country is in development by Sony’s 3000 Pictures and Hello Sunshine, with filming recently initiated. While specific character-to-actor pairings are not officially finalized, reported casting includes Elle Fanning, Rico Nasty, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nick Offerman, and Nicole Kidman

Hmmmm

Ugh, why does Nicole Kidman have to be in absolutely everything???
This book is deeply rooted in the 1950s and packed with raw emotion! Kidman and her frozen and expressionless face just don’t fit the vibe at all!

If thr The casting choices is true, this is giving major “Hollywood-ification” vibes and will totally ruin the book

I’m just very confused. I could potentially see Kidman being Gabriel’s mum, cold and icy and upper class, but then who is Michelle P playing? I do like Nick Offerman for David. Elle Fanning for the lead is a big nope. And Rico Nasty in that setting is a stretch to say the least. And who’s Frank and Gabriel?!

Is it because the font size is different from the book? How does the kindle usually handle stuff like that?

Any Dungeon Crawler Carl readers out here. Saw a few people raving, figured I’d try it on holiday and I’ve been sucked in. It is not my usual book at all, I’m on the 3rd already

I’m wanting to get it on audiobook as I think I read somewhere it’s really good on there.

IIRC I had a similar reading experience (minus sobbing - ice queen over here*).. I thought it was a good/solid/very readable book but after 24hrs I downgraded my rating.

*exclusions apply.. ahem When the Cranes Fly South
I finished When Cranes Fly South and yes tears were shed. Beautiful book. Heartbreaking depiction of ageing. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention. I’d never have found it.

I knoooooooooow. I lost mum before she had a chance to really get old old, and it’s ahead of us with dad which terrifies me, and he has a cat that’s his only reason for getting outta bed in the morning and then I also have health anxiety and am so frightened of my own decline (especially knowing I’ll have longterm vulnerabilities), so it hit me from all sides. 😭 Some compared it to Backman but i think that does it a disservice. I find Backman can be a bit overly sentimental. This hit just the right balance. But definitely do not read! Wait for the authors next one!

i hear you on all sides - i think that’s why i found the correspondent (while overall a lovely book) insanely triggering because of how much of it discussed declining vision in particular (which, as someone with terrible eyesight, is a huge thing for me).

any book that discusses aging, or the slow decline of not being able to do things you used to, or general loneliness in old age is an absolute no-go for me. i know i’m probably missing out on some beautiful books because of it but i also know they would make me unbelievably distressed.

I started The Correspondent today. It’s not grabbing me yet, I’m only 40-odd pages in. It’s that in demand at the library that we only get it for 2 weeks. I’m hoping to finish it quick and take it back on Monday

I missed the start of the new thread so am very late but obviously HAD to reply to share your horror! This is not a good casting! Boo. Also he and Phoebe could pass for siblings imo 😅
