It was the Anne Boleyn research. She wanted to know everything, e.g. when would she have stopped feeling her head being cut off

Spoiler: possible squeamish stuff

The nerve specialist told her the few seconds after her head had been cut off and that she would have felt her head being cut off

I was dreading how she would have translated that to the book.

I’ve read a few and I don’t remember being overly disturbed by any. Have you read the Wolf Hall trilogy because I would say Alison Weir is tamer than that?

She has written a book about Wolsey and there’s a lot of him having sex in it and that did make me squeamish

I haven't read Wolf Hall. Just seen it on TV.
I just wouldn't look forward to reading a book where the author was obsessed with gruesome details.

I don't think Alison Weir is gruesome at all! I suppose we all have our own tolerance levels though.

I am back reading my DCI Logan books again. Had taken a break and read a few other books because I didn't want to get to the current end too quickly.

I can see why it's considered important but the writing style is a struggle to get on with. And so it goes, and so on...

I just finished The Correspondent too, I did enjoy it once I got into it.

I finished Flowers for Algernon today. Meh. Great concept. Average execution. I think it should have really moved me but I was just speed reading it by the end to get it over.

Next up is a Maggie O Farrell I think.

I was going to read Margot’s Got Money Problems cos I keep seeing ads for the tv series but then discovered I read it last June.

I thought The Correspondent was a bit overhyped. I was confused why it's THE book everyone is going mad about? Same with The Names, to be honest 🫣 both were fine but I just didn't see the wow factor.

I'm also needing to space out DCI Logan, @ordinaryjelly .I think i'm on number 12 or so? Plus I read the new Tyler novella. Have you read any of the Bob Hoon books?

i liked the correspondent very much but i absolutely agree with you about the names - didn’t live up to the hype for me and the time jumps wrecked any way of connecting to the characters properly imo. i found it all just really meandering.

i liked the correspondent very much but i absolutely agree with you about the names - didn’t live up to the hype for me and the time jumps wrecked any way of connecting to the characters properly imo. i found it all just really meandering.

I think it was badly marketed. 'The name' wasn't really the point, I was expecting sliding doors of the multiple ways different people had different outcomes based on their name. Whereas it's actually just about how their upbringing being different made their lives different, which isn't that innovative.

it is my favourite book of all time; an actual masterpiece, it is perfection in book form. also it has literally everything you could want from a book (love triangles! yearning! duels! pirates! hidden treasure! betrayal!)

No. Not Bob Hoon. There are only 5 books in that series aren't there? Are they any good?

No. Not Bob Hoon. There are only 5 books in that series aren't there? Are they any good?

They're great too. You have to suspend belief somewhat, that when we first met him he was a middle aged desk job senior police officer, but is actually a huge action hero! I love them and him though.

Edit - actually I think JD has hinted that the Hoon books are in the pipeline for a screen production.
