Watched The Walsh Sisters on I player. Granted it’s been eons since I read the books but Mammy Walsh, in my head was an OTT Irish mammy, who interfered in their lives but in a forgiving way because of her protective character. The tv show, she was icy, distant and nothing like I’d imagined.

I'm intrigued to watch this. Were the other characters more like you imagined them?

Have you read Killers of the Flower Moon? That's the same author. If you enjoyed that you'll probably like The Wager.

Rachel’s Holiday is one of my favourite books, though it’s been years since I read the series. I don’t remember the Mammy being a cold nasty b*tch. I remember her as an overbearing Irish Mammy who could also be funny but loving. They overlapped each sister story which kind of worked but omg it was miserable and depressing. There were lots of laugh out loud moments when I read the books, this didn’t translate at all to tv. Yes the books deal with serious issues but that’s where Helen’s one liners and Mammy and Daddy Walsh brought some laughs. Or I’m remembering all wrong…..

I don’t reread many books but I do plan on rereading these, before even knowing there was a TV series. I think there was a book came out a couple years ago, (Again Rachel) and that’s when I thought I should really reread them

Has anyone read husband wife strangers by Robbie vale? It was a good concept but I found it to be very strangely written to the point I looked up the author to see if the book had been translated to English by someone else from his first language. Just wondered if anyone else found the same.

I love LJ Ross - if you haven’t done so already read her Dr Gregory series. He pops up in a Ryan book to profile a suspect and she’s written a spin off series about him.

That was the first ive read of hers. Got it from the library and it was no 13 in the series. No really enjoyed it though so going to start that series from the beginning, will keep an eye out for the Gregory ones! Thank you!

I saw on here someone had read it’s always the husband by C L Taylor. Is it a good read? Not sure weather to start it or another JD Kirk book

I did enjoy Seven Dials when I read it in I think 2024 but I must say the posts above do ring true too - I enjoyed it but it wasn't stellar. I watched the Netflix and it was a bit boring and I think they changed the culprits about.

Anyone read Ladder To The Sky, John Boyne. I’m a fair bit into the book but am struggling to keep going. I usually adore John Boyne but I’m finding this a chore. Most reviews are so positive.

About halfway through and it’s so good

I usually have no idea what’s going on for a bit and it feels like I’ve just been thrown into the middle of a scene but then there’s a line of a piece of dialogue which clarifies mostly everything or just hooks me in.

The first chapter specifically was weirdly relatable with the way the character was processing trauma

I've never read Dr Zhivago (probably won't bother now) but I remember watching the TV miniseries from a few years back and thinking "Is that it?" at the end so this all tracks

The one with Keira Knightley? That cuts out quite a bit I think.

Just started Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors and I'm struggling to get past the names Bonnie Blue and Lucky Blue. I just envision such totally different people than the ones being described based on those names

Is this is a recent book? If so, surely the author/editor/publisher had to know about the notorious real people with those names???

it definitely is and he definitely was. it’s so ick that she really has no chance of ever forming a relationship with another man because of him

Ah, but HE also has no choice. It's less icky because he's an adult throughout their relationship, but the moment they meet she tells him she is his future wife, and when he eventually meets her as a child all he can do is repeat what, from his perspective with adult Clare, already happened. Neither of them get to choose the other.

I’ve only watched one episode and not read the books but wasn’t too bothered by the series. I’ll watch the rest at some point but it didn’t hook me. Felt a bit ‘try hard’
