Never read Paige Toon so I couldn't comment.
Despite the bawling I really liked it. Read it in less than a day so I must have.

Omg you have to read this it's so sad and sunny is hot it's a really good story

I like the slightly dystopian angle in some of his books more than the thrillers I suppose. The thrillers arent BAD, they just don’t stand out against any other ones really!

Hahaha sameeee!! Someone commented on one of JD Kirk’s tik toks of who he’d like to play Jack if it was ever a series, I can’t remember who he said but I’ll have a look for it again and get back to you!

i really liked big swiss! but it is very weird and quirky so if that isn’t your usual thing, don’t read it because you’ll hate it

Oh ok! Weird and quirky like Eleanor olyphant / strange Sally Diamond? I liked those but that’s probably about as quirky as I’ve got!

I don't think I have ever detested a character in a book more than I did Nick/Alastair.

I know, he was so many people at the same time! Not him because hes fictional but men who do this rarely get away with it irl

Why is that called "Wuthering Heights" like the film? Is it not actually the book?!

I don't like movie covers on books, but I deffo don't like it when it looks like it's being sarcastic!

I’m confused! Wuthering Heights is both the book and the film isn’t it? They haven’t changed the name have they? (It is Friday and I have had a crazy week so apologies if I’m missing something obvious! )

I absolutely binged all 6 books straight after watching the show, so I obviously feel quite different to you. But that is why there are so many books in the world, we are all going to prefer different things! So, if anyone did enjoy the Game Changers books and has any similar books to recommend (but not in the world of hockey, which is all the recommendations I seem to be getting now), please do share them.

Well you see I did like Red, White and Royal Blue - I might still try Heated Rivalry. I think it's just the characters, I don't like them! I grew up reading Hollyoaks m/m fic so it's not new to me, it's just something about this book...

I liked the Bridgerton series which is obviously mainstream romance but good in a trashy but readable way.

Yes , I read it when it was published. I don’t remember much about it other than it was quite enjoyable quick read.

I don't think she's a brain surgeon, i read physiatrist, which is somewhere between a medical doctor and a physio/OT, who helps rehab people after head injuries. Still very cool and important but much more regular hours, plus the article said she hasn't been seeing patients since 2022.

Physiatrists are medical doctors too. It seems like she specialises in brain disorders and still works once or twice a month, per this Times article: https://archive.ph/erubX

I can't find the post where I asked for detective novel recommendations. I picked one series at random, DCI Jack Logan. I have blitzed through the first four and have really enjoyed them. I can't find who recommended him - but thank you. They are right up my street.

Ive just finished the first of Jane Casey's Maeve Kerrigan series and really enjoyed it! Might be worth a look at if you fancy a change from Jack! Its a long series think theres about 20 odd books. I bought the first five on daily deals

I loved the Emma Southon books - they seemed a good intro into it but I couldn't get on with her podcast

It's probably personal taste with Southon. I couldn't bear her writing style.

Yes, the Downie ones are on Unlimited now you mention it! Possibly not the last one unless they've added it recently?

one of my favourite books of all time. i love her writing, it’s one of the most devastating depictions of grief and almost apathetic depression that i have ever read. parts of it sing. i adore it.

it could only be attempted as a really prestige mini series: i don’t know why they even attempted a film. aneurin barnard was a great boris though, wasted 🥲

I could see AppleTV maaaybe doing something at least semi-decent with an adaptation.

It's such a shame the film is probably all we will get, the powers that be got it so wrong it's boggling.

I felt similar about The Lovely Bones adaptation, it just didn't understand the book at all. Though the book now is sadly tainted for me because of what happened with Alice Seabold and Anthony Broadwater. It's actually my favourite book, but because of Anthony Broadwater's wrongful imprisonment for all those years I have a hard time with the author's personal history and how much of that she put into her work.

It'll probably take me a week before I can get over it. I notice from the comments it's affected other people badly so not just me! The character's personality totally changed too! FGS!!!

I read this on holiday in December. Hadn’t read a JoJo Moyes book for a while however I really enjoyed it

Hello book friends! Quick question, do you need to read the Steve Cavanagh/Eddie Flynn books in order? I have Thirteen on my shelf as when I bought it I didn’t realise it was part of a series and really want to read it, but don’t know if I need to start at the beginning? Are they like the Strike books where I’ll miss loads of context and relationships by not reading them in order? Or will it matter? thank you!
