Ha. I had it added to my Amazon wish list, read a review slating it and deleted it from my list. And now I’m wondering if I should add it again does it give American psycho vibes?

I wouldn't say so but then I didn't enjoy American Psycho when I read it but I suppose in a way that everyone feels shallow, including the main character yes? -

It's quite difficult to explain but it's a bit like the author writing some facts about events that happen, there's not much character to anyone in the book, but I think that's partly because the main characters thought process seems to boil down to "okay whatever". You'll occasionally get something with a bit more meat to it but it's very brief

My library seems to have come into some money I think. We've had the normal big drop of books and now we've got another big drop straight after - I recognise at least some of them, and they're old books! I snaffled The Three Musketeers as I thought someone on here might have recommended it. Also The Seven Dials Mystery. I don't think I've read it, although people who've watched the recent drama on TV about it did say they thought it was "crap".

I've never read Dr Zhivago (probably won't bother now) but I remember watching the TV miniseries from a few years back and thinking "Is that it?" at the end so this all tracks

I have just started The Kensington Kidnap which is book 1 in the Epiphany Bloom Mystery series by Katie Gayle. The other 2 books in the series are The Museum Murder and Death at the Gates.

For the time being I have given up with The Kensington Kidnap so I am now starting the Henry Fleming Investigates series by Jay Gill which consists of the following 4 books.

Definitely do it! It's a really informative, but hard read. I grew up during the Troubles and it gave so much to me in terms of naunce and context to a time I was so scared by without really knowing anything about it.

After reading Trespasses I wanted to read some non fic on the subject and this sounds like it.

I didn’t know a lot about the troubles - aside from remembering it being on the news in the background when I was eating dinner after school! - until I went to Belfast a few years ago. Really eye opening!

I am still knee-deep in my love affair with DCI Jack Logan. JD Kirk's detective novels are just brilliant. His lowest review score is 4.32, the majority are 4.5+. Over 21 books.

Is there a more prolific author who had mansion such high scores over than shown of books? I would like to read them if so. His are actually his own books, not ghost written or the same plot rehashed and republished. He keeps his own publishing house so as not to have to bend into other people's formulas as well.

I absolutely LOVE JD Kirk books. How far in are you? There are some spin offs as well (but I won't mention which characters in case you haven't got there yet!)

I recently listened to his newest stand alone thriller, and whilst it was a decent, if not slightly predictable thriller, James McAvoy did the narration and he made it absolutely brilliant, like proper acted it out!

My 5 star reads were:

The Correspondent - Virgina Evans
White Boots - Noel Streatfeild (an old childhood fave i had a sudden yearning to reread)
A Month In the Country - JL Carr. A Penguin Modern classic that crammed an awful lot of very beautiful writing into just over 100 pages.

Worst book and 1.5 stars

Guilt Trip by Jo Furniss. Absolutely ridiculous.

All the rest nice enough reads feel like ive had a good reading month

Yes, I just don’t feel drawn to the characters like I have in the other books of his I’ve read

The Forgotten Garden is currently 99p on Kindle.

Its definitely 5* in my book.

I just finished Kings of the Wyld. It was a pretty great fantasy adventure story.

If you're into the Romans, I'd recommend the Vindolanda & The Fort trilogies by Adrian Goldsworthy, and the Gaius Petreius Ruso mystery series by Ruth Downie (8 book starting with Medicus)

The Goldsworthy books were on Kindle Unlimited when I read them.

(I absolutely hated the Emma Southon book I read though )

I loved the Emma Southon books - they seemed a good intro into it but I couldn't get on with her podcast

I’m halfway through Wild Love by Elsie Silver and seriously considering DNF-ing. I’ve been reading it for four days and it’s just so dull, that it feels like a chore. I don’t care about any of the characters!
