Either of:What do you do when you can’t decide what book to read next! I usually have one calling me but not today, can’t even decide on a genre or whether to pick a physical book or a kindle one. I drive myself mad sometimes
- end up not reading for a couple days being indecisive
- read the shortest easiest book i have
- force myself to just start the first book I have without overthinking it

It means I’m going in with no expectations so at best I’ll end up pleasantly surprised and enjoy it, at worst it’s one cleared off the TBR!
Usually I just look at the books on my bookshelf and say "I fancy reading that book today" but if I can't decide then like @SaintLeo I will choose a random book that has been on my TBR for ages.What do you do when you can’t decide what book to read next! Book rave alert! The Bookbinder of Jericho, not sure if it's been mentioned on this thread before but it's a fabulous read. I loved the way all the old classics, with snippets of prose and verse wove their way through the whole book. It's set in first world war times and that plays a part but the main theme is a young woman, during suffrage, fighting against family and society expectations for a lower class woman, to study at Oxford. Its soooo good an easy 5 stars for me!

If I'm in the library and I can't decide, I play library chicken where i just Close my eyes and take the first book my hand lands on! Usually something people have been talking about about here/book club, reads for other book clubs, library books that need to go back or one on my shelves that I’ve just randomly thought about.
One of the things I have seen on booktube/booktok/bookstagram that I think could be helpful in choosing books is the TBR jar. You write all your tbr books (on your kindle and/or physical copies) on slips of paper and pop them all in a jar. Then when you need a new read you pick a slip of paper out of the jar and that's your book chosen.

I read 65 books last year. My goal was to read a lot of books after a few years of having difficulty focusing on reading. Prior to that I was a voracious reader but some personal issues made me have a very difficult time reading and I really missed the escape.
So as I said, for me, 2024 was a success in getting back to reading more. This year, my goal is to read well. I take my time. I look up words. I make notes on stickies (I just can’t bring myself to annotate on physical books). I make journal entries on passages that jump out at me. I’m enjoying the experience. It feels indulgent and I think it’s satisfying something in my brain that has been neglected.

Lovely! I don't ever make notes on books but I do look words up and also Google stuff, particularly if im reading a book on a subject I don't know much about.I read 65 books last year. Has anyone heard about this change? From 26th February we won't be able to download Kindle books to our devices like to a laptop using a USB or another ereader.
The concerns some people have is if Amazon decides to do something with a particular version of a book or remove it completely, because we don't own the actual file we will lose access to that book or the version of it we have.

Yes! Some historical fiction has me looking up maps and names of streets to see if they still exist and what it looks like now. Lots of side quests! I sometimes have to limit myself to searching online at the end of each chapter rather than as I go because it can be distracting. So many lovely rabbit holes to fall down
I'm currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo and have googled so many things! If I'm reading something historical I always Google fashions so I can picture them properly, but I've been googling 19th century french banking systems, 19th century french telegraph systems, what people's titles mean, street names and what they would have looked like then, The Rome festival.... I've also got an additional list of things to look up when I'm finished and some questions to ask in case the book doesn't resolve them!!Yes! I love it when I'm reading a book that is set in a real place, like a small village so I can go on street view and 'walk' around! (I'm looking at you DCI Logan and DCI Grim books!)

It doesn't bother me. I have never downloaded the content in the 15+ years I have had a kindle and won't in the future. It's to crack down on piracy.
