this is the approach i’m trying to take too! i always used to try and push through, and i’ve read a few where they’re a slog for the first half but then turn into something beautiful at the end (still life being the one that comes to mind) but they’re rare and i get even more annoyed if i persevere and it stays hard workI used to struggle with this too! But last year, I made a resolution to stop forcing myself to finish books I’m not enjoying—life’s too short, and my TBR is way too long. If I feel like revisiting a book later, I can always pick it back up (which I’ve done a few times). That said, not once has a book I DNF’d early on turned out to be amazing, so I’ve found that dropping it early is usually a good indicator that it just wasn’t for me.
if i do DNF a book (like i did with a few awful romances last year) i still skip and read the final two or three chapters just to see if i was justified. like you say, usually i am!!
