I’ve only ever read 11.22.63 by Stephen King and I really fancy giving some of his “classic” books a go so interested to know if people have any other recommendations?

The Shining always makes me think of Joey from Friends putting it in the freezer when it gets too scary! Good to know that’s an option if they’re a bit too much! 😂
Haha same ref The Shining.

After seeing a few recommendations I’ve got Misery on my Oct/Nov TBR.

I’ve not read Pet Semetary. I really should but I’ve always avoided dead dogs in books so I skipped that one and Cujo.

I should get Rewitched finished this weekend too and also The Magpie on Kindle. I’m enjoying both but there’s a TW of infertility for The Magpie.

I would’ve read Rewitched faster but I’m scared to damage the pretty pages 😂
No dead dogs (one is briefly mentioned but barely any gory details). A dead cat though. I do understand your fear though as animals in peril in books really upsets me too.

Not quite book related, but there used to be a website called “Does The Dog Die” where you could look up films and see if there were any animals that met a sad end in it. One of my best friends has been known to turn things off half way through if she suspects a dog might not make it so it was very useful for her! Not sure if it still exists.

I tried to watch Marley & Me and had to put it off 😂

Finished ‘Probably nothing’ by Lauren Bravo

i mostly liked it, would give it a 3.75 rating.

loved the chaos of Ed’s family, and I liked both narrators but I don’t understand why there had to be 2, it almost felt like 2 different books merged into one. The connection between the 2 mains was a bit weak.

I'd never read Cujo because I didn't fancy it, bit I read it recently and thought it was great, but ultimately whilst Cujo does some bad tit it's not his fault poor fella, so it is sad.

I've read most of them. The Shining is the only one that really scared me, you can just feel the evil.

My recs (in no order, just my favourite ones)
Christine
Misery
It (brilliant as long as you just skim read the last hundred or so pages when Steve's drugs kicked in!)
Needful Things
Firestarter
Joyland (absolutely brilliant, King is at his finest with a coming of ages story!)
The Dead Zone
Salem's Lot

Just any of them really, they're all great!

His book 'Different Seasons' covers a lot of the classics also

King writes children experiencing trauma so incredibly well. It and the losers club will always have a special place in my heart ❤ . They got me through a difficult time in a foster placement far from home as a 12 year old.

Adding Joyland to my TBR.
