Booker Long List.

I don't know how they make a list when so many (all? I only looked up the ones whose title appealed) are not released.

I did the same earlier this year with the first book of the Chalet School series! (Although weirdly it seems to have disappeared from any Kindle searches I do now so can’t find the next one )

The Chalet School series took reading out of synch to the extreme. It went on for so long the later books were about the original characters kids, but I was quite happy to read about the kids one week and then go back to the library and pick up one of the original characters books the next!

Do you mean the St Clare's school books or the ones that were set in the Alps - I can't remember who wrote those?

Yes, the ones set in the Alps, and for a couple of books in the Channel Islands which I think was WW2 related! By Elinor M Brent-Dyer. I did read the St Claire’s book as well though! Loved me a bit of boarding school lit back in the day!

I devoured all the boarding school books. I used to get them one by one. My nana used to take me on the bus with a £5 note, I could buy the book - £2.99 and then get a £1 pick n mix (which was a huge bag of sweets back then) and a can of Tizer.

I would have the the book finished that day, but still need to wait.

I also remember a series featuring ponies that lived in the back garden and it was a small village. I have never found those books since.

I mustn't have had much access to The Chalet School books as I remember reading a couple but didn't seem to be able to get my hands on them decades ago.
I noticed World of Books do them so I might pop one into my next order.

ETA. I still have some books in my bookcase from childhood despite being pressured to get rid once I grew up.
Does anyone else keep books from childhood?

Which ones were you looking at?

I think I’d read, James, Safe Keep, My Friends and maybe Orbital.
Loads look out of stock on Waterstones but seem to have store stock. I assume they’re the type of books they don’t generally hold a lot of stock of until they appear on a prize list.. or a lot of people are keen on reading the long list this year

I just read one version of the story in my make your own adventure Goosebumps book and I’m fully back in my tween years! I’m reading Escape From the Carnival of Horrors and can confirm I did make it out alive on my first attempt! Now to try some alternative choices.

Can you get them from the library? I did that for most of them and read the whole series. Some are better than others but it’s one of my favourite series.

Did I read my Dark Romeo this month, yes. Was it so bad, yes. Am I now reading My Dark Desire, also yes. 🫣🫣

I didn’t like my dark Romeo but my dark desire is one of my fave reads this year so far!!

Wild Houses - Kindle and Hardback now, but I am a paperback gal. Wait til January.

I know paperbacks come last. But so far away. Not that I would buy them now. Just annoying, hah

Today I went to my little Post Office and they had a box outside of books to take or where to make donations. I took Sex and the City by Candace Bushnell (love the series and recently rewatched while on Mat leave) and The Flatshare by Beth O Leary (?). I will go back and donate some of my books that I won’t read - but more books added to my growing TBR pile whilst I keep getting books from the library

Finished Station Eleven and loved it! Think it's been long enough since lockdown that the subject matter wasn't too close to home...

Girls Gone By Publishers does reprints of all the Chalet School books and lots of others of a similar mid-century jolly hockey sticks vibe. If you want a fun nostalgia trip!

Stone Yard Devotional by Charlotte Wood is on my TBR pile by my bed! Might need to get to it sooner now. I picked it up on a whim in Waterstones a few months ago because the blurb was intriguing.
