Coincidentally I just finished The Wasp Factory earlier this week after having it on my TBR for ages! I thought it would be very different and I was disappointed, I found it quite a slog to get through as some parts were really over explained and drawn out. I really wasn’t expecting to find it so dull, given the subject matter! Spoiler: I also thought the big twist and all the Freudian stuff in the last chapter was just silly, just didn’t make sense to me and (without going into the gory details) could only have been written by a man.

I was in the library to today and had to queue for a while for the first time ever for the librarians. They looked stressed. Whilst I was waiting I noticed they are selling books (second hand).
My local council has been cutting the library hours so we are about to lose more hours of opening. I expect they are cutting staff now.
Seems a good idea to sell books. I might consider donating some in future as I have in the past.

okay, folks of the thread who have read tom lake (a five star delight of a book) i have a spoilery question and would appreciate your thoughts.
was duke emily’s father? i read that part so many times and it can read (imo) as her getting an abortion OR her finding out she’s pregnant with the nurse holding her hand. and joe has such a visceral reaction to seeing duke holding toddler emily. was she already pregnant when she met joe again or does the timeline not timeline. i am

It's been about a year since I read it so I'm a little rusty! I'm super interested in how this book ages, because it was so perfectly placed with them all having to work the farm during lockdown

I read it last September so I’m a little hazy on it - I don’t think Duke is Emily’s Dad but can’t remember why.
I was wondering if any Kindle Paperwhite users could help me with this issue.
Ages ago I had access to a New York Public Library card and borrowed a whole bunch of books on my Kindle. Read them and returned them - or so i thought. They are still on my Kindle. No matter what I do they will not disappear though I can't read or download them.
I have used the return to library, remove from Kindle etc etc . I have even gone on my laptop, removed and deleted them from my Amazon account, rebooted and resynced my Kindle and they are STILL showing in my library. How can i wipe them and get rid of them from my library on my Paperwhite because literally nothing I do works.?
I'd try contacting Amazon but they have third world call centres and it's impossible to get any sense out of them in my previous experience.I'm quite tech savvy but I cannot see what is going wrong here,

Just at the point where Violet has TWO dragons choose her! I'm loving the book, more than I thought. I do feel though that alongside Violet that I have been punched, stabbed, and tried to run up obstacles, ahaha, I feel like I've gone along for the ride rather than being a fourth wall observer. I'm hoping now she has dragons that the rest of the book is good.

I’m currently reading ‘beasts of a little land’ and I really recommend it for those who read Pachinko and enjoyed it.

I have Go as a River to read next from the library by Shelley Read. I've seen mixed things about it but will see how I go!

Not that I am here to brag but it is 576 date since I bought a book. Really make inroads into my physical book pile, I wanted to get that under control. The only books I am keeping are the ones that have moved me in some way, ones that have got under my skin and series I have enjoyed - Cormoron Strike etc..
I have gone through my Kindle and removed all the Kindle First reads I got for no reason, and a lot of other books that just were just bloatware. Once my physical pile is done I will be onto the Kindle.

I got a British Library Crime Classic book yesterday and it is called Murder Underground by Mavis Doriel Hay.
I read a similar style of book in the last year called The Guernsey Girls and that was gripping as well.
I have the Guernsey Girls on my bookshelf but I have not got round to reading it yet, have you read the follow on book to the Guernsey Girls which is called the Guernsey Girls Go to War as this was released in June. The final book in the trilogy comes out in December and is called the Guernsey Girls Find Peace.
If we're honest we'd have to admit that we aren't going to read our books again unless they are truly beloved, so we should harden our hearts and pass on the books to the library or charity shop. Thereby leaving room for future truly beloveds.

No, I only noticed today that there were 2 more in the series. I've added them to my wishlist. I'm being really severe with myself at the moment.
I have also got the Jam Factory Girls Series and the Girls Who Went to War series by Mary Wood but again I haven't got round to reading these because at the moment I am prioritising other books first.
