I didn’t get a kindle until 18months ago, it was a birthday present. I was very much “I like to feel a book” but I wouldn’t be without it now. I just really want them to bring out a colour one 😩 I want all the pretty covers

i truly don’t know! i guess i don’t open books ALL the way or ever put them face down, and i kinda stop at regular intervals to close the book and smooth the spine (i have many weird reading quirks 🤣)

i’ve thrown mama blonde under the bus here before but she literally reads books as though she’s in them (i mean i assume she does, they look like she’s been chucking them around) and falls asleep a lot when she reads so ends up squashing them. i have her copy of this family but i might buy my own because her’s is WRECKED 💀
My mum gave me her first Game of Thrones book but I ended up buying my own 🫣

One of my friends doubles the book back - not sure if that makes sense - apparently it’s easier to hold in one hand *shudder

It was a 3rd generation kindle which was my first. It looked like this 😂 the first book I ever read on it was The Snowman by Jo Nesbo.

I was obsessed with scandi thrillers in the 2000s
Me too! Occasionally I think about going back to Jo Nesbo as I think there’s a lot in that series now.. then I remember all the other series I’m part way through.

I had this one too, tbh it still did its job, hubby just wanted to upgrade mine to the paper white, I have a paper white 10th Gen, and I', not even sure what the advantages the newer ones have, I love mine, I mix audio, kindle and real books atm.

The only reason I bought that book was so I could read it in public 🙈 (do you like it so far?)
Love that 😄 I haven't bought it yet, think it'd have to be one I ordered online! What did you think of it?

I have had a Kindle since they get first came out, Kindle 1 the one with the stupid keyboard and the actual buttons to press to change r page. It was thick and heavy and cost about £400. My husband got it for me for my birthday, I want to say around 2006/7.

seeing that reminds me of the first time I met Roger from The Cure and he took a look at my phone and said wow can you only speak to people in the 1980s? Then he insisted on taking a pic and posting it on his private Instagram,,

Oh and speaking of Kindles and books are any of you looking for /interested in book and Kindle sleeves ? I have bought a ton off a lovely Bookstagrammer/friend Kelsy who makes really high quality ones. I don't usually like to plug things but she's been struggling financially in a really bad way for the last few years since Covid hit her moms business. I've even bought things off her in the past I didn't need just to keep her going but I can't afford to right now. She has a shop on etsy. goodvibesgoodbooks - Etsy UK and her IG is goodvibesgoodbooks.

I used to be so fussy with my books and wanted them looking unread after I’d read them. Now I couldn’t care less.

83 pages into Preloved and it is not my genre at all but I am enjoying it, especially the short chapters. So I will finish it. Thanks for making me step outside my comfort zone.

I’m listening to The Glass Ocean and I’m finding it so tedious. Some parts I have on x1.5 just to rush through it. I want to find out the twists (part of the story is about espionage) but my lord the rest of it is a snooze fest

I’ve just finished Cuckoo In The Nest by Fran Hill, which I enjoyed. Do you have any suggestions for 70’s 80’s nostalgia novels. The Trouble with Goats and Sheep I also enjoyed.

Finally finished The Familiar! Took me a little over two weeks, which usually is a sign that I didn't enjoy a book, but I actually ended up loving it. It started slow, I didn't really feel pulled in until after the 100 page mark, but once it did pull me in, I couldn't stop and finished it in one seating. To be fair to it, I also hadn't been reading much because of work trips and The Tortured Poets Department stealing most of my brain space.

Anyway, all this to say I did end up liking it a lot. Leigh Bardugo always writes twisted characters that you still root for and the setting of Inquisition was much fresher than other overused historical settings, so I loved that.

For anyone who has read Black Cake, how did you find it?

i’m finding it hard to really get into it as it has so many different perspectives (unless that changes down the line) only about 100 pages but have had 5 different perspectives so far!
Read it last year in two weeks and binged the series in a week

it did get a bit confusing and slightly overly woke at one point but I really enjoyed it!
especially the aspects of her early life in Jamaica and when she moves …

Finished This Family by Kate Sawyer last night and loved it. It took a few chapters to get used to the timeline shifts but it’s a really good multiple character family drama story. My only criticism would be that the Epilogue felt a bit throw away - it didn’t really show where the characters all ended up. Other than that I think she is definitely someone I’ll be reading more from.

Also just finished this! Completely agree, took me awhile to get use to the timelines but thought it was a well written family saga.

My mum made my books look like a car had reversed over them! 🤬

I'm not overly fussed about a cracked spine.

But I draw the line at those psychopaths who when reading paperback fold the front cover and pages right around to the back cover and have it folded completely back to hold in one hand.

Those people need to be locked away. 😆😆
