Thanks all ☺

I do have a local library but I’m just very lazy so I don’t reckon I’d go there 😬

I’m gonna give it a week or 2 to mull over but I am leaning towards getting one, if only for all the sort thrillers I love but don’t really need hard copies of as one you’ve read the twist it’s kind of done🤣

Do you have a local library? I love physical books and also have a Kindle which my OH bought me a few years ago due to the space issue (it is handy for holidays). But I joined my local library a few years ago and found I can get most of the books I want to read there. You can even request them to order books they don’t have you want to read and often they do. If I really love a book or an author I still buy a copy for myself. But saves so much space and money!
I do the same and I also read magazines online through them. I haven't got round to looking at their family tree services yet, though. They also seem to do business courses as well I think 🤔. Plus the normal clubs - art, dancing, knit and natter, children's etc

I would say still join the library and use the online service only if you don't want to, or can't be bothered to go into the actual library to get physical books, etc. But if you find yourself desperate for a physical book they can order it in for you and you can then pick it up from the orders bookshelf. You have an online account to order books in and for lists of books you want to read.

Just don’t put your library books on top of the wardrobe and forget about them, then turn your house upside down because you can’t find them 😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I thought it read quite YA too. I enjoyed it but haven't had the urge to continue the series. I also read the first in the Caraval series but again, have not continued. Perhaps, her writing isn't for me...
Oh I loved this series, mostly because of Jacks hah! But I know what you mean about the YA, I probably would have preferred it written for a slightly older audience.

That's the attitude I have with buying paperbacks, do I think I will want them on my shelf as a trophy and possibly read again, or will it be a read-and-done? If the latter I'm trying to buy on Kindle instead. Though sometimes I am lured by the supermarket paperbacks. I'll donate any that don't want on my shelf. On my shelf is mostly Robert Galbraith, Anthony Horowitz, Agatha Christie, Jane Austen, the Brontes, Georgette Heyer.

I love my Kindle Paperwhite. I tend to read most books first on there, and if I love it then I will buy it in paperback (try to get second hand, only if in excellent condition though as I love a pristine spine). That way I find I only display/'keep' the books I really love / MAY consider lending out (only to those I trust to return, and return in as good condition) and I cherish them more. I don't tend to use the library, so buying every physical book I ever read would mean I'd run out of space v quickly! They have to 'earn' their space on my bookshelves!

(I know you still keep them on kindle, but it's not the same to me.)

I love my kindle for the portability, convenience of not having to actually store the books, and the 99p deals 🤪 My first kindle was well over 10 years old and I upgraded it to the paperwhite which I love, the backlight is so handy.
I also still buy physical books and use the library a lot, I don’t think I could read only kindle or physical books.

Popped to the library this morning to return some books and collect two reservations for my son.

Picked up I Am, I Am, I Am which had been on my wish list for ages after someone mentioned it here. Happpppyyy 🤩

I’ve not picked up a paperback since 2020 and I always swore that Kindles would never replace actual books but for me they totally have. I read on my phone all through 2021 and only bought a kindle after a year of using the app, I’ve not looked back. I find it’s so much more practical for me to have access on two devices and have the book I’m reading be available on both. For example I’ll read on my phone when I’m putting my son to bed (he takes ages to settle and I end up just lying staring at the ceiling if I don’t have my phone) or when I’m out and about and have five minutes spare and then use my kindle for longer dedicated reading times like before bed etc. As much as I love the feel of real books I just don’t have the space or money to get them. I use KU and love a 99p offer so ebooks is a much cheaper option for me. I do also use BorrowBox for audio books.

Would love a review from you once you're done! A friend gifted it to me but every time I read the blurb of '17 near death experiences' all I can think is: how careless is she to have 17 near death experiences?!

I’m the same putting my wee one to bed, always have my kindle because he takes an age to settle 🤥🤥😂😂😉 well that’s what the OH thinks 😂

Has anyone read Black Sun? I've jumped from the Caraval Trilogy to Black Sun and the jump from YA to A is killing my brain atm.

Also do not do what I've done and join Netgalley, spam request ARCs and end up with 6 on my shelf already.
Now I'm currently listening to 1 audiobook, reading 1 physical and reading 1 ebook :D

I've read Black Sun! Such a different setting from the usual medieval Europe.

On hardcopy vs ebooks, I have two ereaders (my kindle is four years old, and I bought a kobo reader so that I wasn't continually giving money to Amazon, and thanks to another poster here, I now read my library ebooks on it too), but I'm a huge sucker for independent bookshops and printed edges. I read a lot, but I'm precious about my books so I tend to keep them at home and cart my ereaders about with me. Storygraph says I've read 49% digital, 17% audio, and 34% print so far this year.

My only thing putting me off kindle is not being able to read library books on them 😭 my library has a good selection but it would mean reading them on my phone which is a no for me. I follow a booktuber from America and they can read lib books on kindle so hopefully they'll do it soon.
If you are keen, get yourself an Android e-reader! I've the Borrowbox and Kindle apps on mine so I'm not just limited to Kindle. I think Libby works on Kobo too.

That annoys me so much that Libby doesn’t work on the kindle
nor borrow box but i had access to the New York Public Library for a while and they offer Kindle so it can be done.. i just dk why they don't for UK libraries.. i mean who wants to read on a phone seriously?

I wonder what the issue is? Technology or bureaucracy?

One thing that does appeal to me with a kindle is I'd feel more able to read certain books in public. Like...

The only reason I bought that book was so I could read it in public 🙈 (do you like it so far?)

Had my kindle paper white for about 12 years. I read a lot faster on it because I can hold it one hand whilst I walk around the house and prop it up on things whilst brushing teeth, getting dressed etc. I refuse to break the spine on real books or get the corners mucked up so I can only read them with two hands at home! Unless it’s a second hand or library book when the spine is already broken and corners are already messy, then I’m fine with it!

Ohh now I see why I don't manage to read as many books as some others here 🤣
