Stumbled here from the Jack Monroe multiverse, hello Fraus — I love the content of the WPAYO podcast, have had several top recommendations from it, but I cannot bear the delivery. I love Alice, but Bethany’s awful speech patterns are totally distracting. I know I’m “old” (‘yeah, ok boomer’ muttered my 13 year old at me last week when I asked her to do something) so I may be missing something, but all the LIKES, the clipped tones, the sighing, the bangers, the upwards inflection — it makes her sound really unintelligent when she’s clearly not.

I would be delighted if my 7 year old had made me those earrings, from a parental pride point of view, but I am totally embarrassed for her that she values them at £14 — at her age, with her exposure to properly arty people. Cringe

Totally agreed. I can't believe she can't see that its also:
a) a little disrespectful to her friends with small businesses
b) suspicious given shes never really shown much desire to make/sell things like this before now / hasn't just addressed the fact that its a blatant cash grab given that shes lost her job and hubby likely isn't bringing in much at the moment (assumed)
c) contradictory to be using polymer clay as someone who loves to virtue signal sustainability towards other brands.

The scandi guy was Denis who's Norwegian, he had a gf in Norway at the same time as yer ole pal Bert who she was intimidated by.

I had a fair overlap of social group with her in the DOMO era too but never went to it for various reasons.

Oooh was it just Scandi Denis then? I was under the impression there were two well endowed Scandi men who liked fat queer women at the same time. I knew Denis and yer pal Bert were poly/open but assumed that she had a Scandi type with a Denis double who was also sleeping with four of her friends I overlapped with. I remain irritated she writes such flat prose with such amazing backstory. I am a bit scared where Alice got her writing skills because her book was brilliant and I kept thinking ‘she really observes character. I wish Bethany’s writing did the same because I would read the hell out it.’

I’m being bitchy here but I don’t think she’s as big an advocate as she has seemed in the past - just say something ! People would respect you so much more if you said something - she’s not as famous as her but Rebel Wilson say - she was just honest and I don’t think I’ve seen * that * much back lash. Just know your audience, say how incredibly lucky you are to also not work a 9-5, can seemingly eat all this food just cos of exercise AND look aesthetically and culturally pleasing AND that you still advocate for fat people but alas are not fat anymore. The only pushback I saw on Rebel Wilson was the types who have made ‘fat famous people’ their icons no different to stans who blur a line of love and obsession any of those groups who get nicknames. Collective stalkers living through Lizzo or Harry Styles or TSwift. The Rebel rebels freaked when she rebelled. She spoke up that her weight was partly binge eating and needed treatment, she was unwell generally, wanted a kid and all the aspects in the cycle of her weight: binge, jealousy, insecurity, mean girling, over confidence pushback were keeping her single and inauthentic. She wanted to change and drum roll please like all eating disorders: weight and food area symptom of underlying behaviours and beliefs. Treatments aims to change symptoms by changing those.

And then she came out and ooooh the anger she seemed happy by changing. For herself. I don’t much care for Rebel Wilson but they attack Adele for wanting to be more active for her kid, keep working, not deal with weight impacting personal goals but are also salty that Adele, Lizzo, Rebel have glam lives with money etc so how dare they want more? Maybe because fancy lunches and posh clothes aren’t all that compared to health and privilege?

But to flaunt weight loss and her non stop luxury life and acknowledge neither is audacity. She posts that reel about another woman exercising while fat (and used a fat black women’s words) instead of ever being a writing and writing about this dilemma. It’s not a easy write and I now think she may not be acknowledging it because her skills haven’t grown beyond early influencer show don’t tell…

Also disclosure, I am just so livid today that she reposted the Grenfell slide in amongst her lunchy lunchy, spin, oh holibobs tomorrow, fat activism slide in such a performative way. Her London and her reality is so shallow. Even Carrie Bradshaw raised the odd issue head on!

I know that for BR's crowd making lots of noise about how they Totally Support Sex Work is the ultimate priority, but I personally prioritise the welfare of vulnerable women and children who are enslaved by organised criminals over more privileged SW's right to work unimpeded by hotel staff. Omg say it louder! Majority of sex workers around the world are young, traficked females!
