The story was always about how the BBC had failed to investigate in the mothers view
Very little focus on the presenter being a horrible person and the young person being a victim
The mother, The Sun, The BBC, the presenter, the young person.
People are desperately searching for a simple story with a villain they can bay for the blood of.
It looks messy, complex and as if a number of individuals made mistakes they tont want to take any responsibility for.
Why do we find it so hard to reserve our judgment, speculation and vitriol even when we know we lack facts?

How can we be making excuses for him when there is no evidence that he has even done anything yet?
Some people need to take a step back and look at what is actually in the public domain and confirmed as fact, because it isn't much.

I’m wondering if the mother believed it to be a famous BBC star but it could have been someone pretending to be him?
Call me old fashioned, but it isn't disputed that the mum asked him to stop sending money as the kid was addicted to crack and she's afraid he's going to die. He doesn't stop the money. She tells the BBC, stop him sending money to my crack addicted child, they don't do anything. I'd say that is most certainly inappropriate ffs!

Regardless of how they met, how old he thought he was, when he became aware how damaging it was to the kid he should have stopped it, got him help, he didnt, he put himself and his career first, as did the BBC. f

i thought this too. I’ve heard a number of stories from people who have said that the police/court/media process was more devastating than anything they went through before, and how they wish none of it had ever come out. They wanted the situation to stop, but for the authorities to have never been involved. Their involvement made things worse. Not just SA, but DV, child abuse situations etc.

Why would your mother make it all up? Why would the Sun publish an article without evidence? Why are the police involved? Why was the presenter suspended by the BBC if there was no strong evidence?

Young person decides to bribe presenter
£35k and 3 years later Young persons mother steps in and alerts the rum about the money
Young person realises if this all comes out they will be in trouble for bribery and tries to quell the rumours
