Can I say with the deleting his social media, when you face false accusations, you literally want to hide. It happened to someone close to me (incidentally it was a person’s mother who made up a story and ran with it because she was mentally ill and having delusions but it still had to be investigated). It’s a feeling beyond shock and grief. It’s like your whole body stops existing and your mind no longer knows how to think. Everyone who was close to the accused took down/limited our social media. We just didn’t want to have to see the outside world/it see in. And this wasn’t a reported story etc as no charges were made (except against the mother but that’s a diff story entirely). Because of that I also know the devastation that follows false accusations because you still lose your life. And I do see this in the same way because that’s where social media etc went with this.
The BBC should absolutely be held to account to see if they’ve dealt with this appropriately. They have a duty of care and should be able to show they take all these instances seriously.
However, The Sun are known for their sensationalism and they have definitely used inflammatory, cleverly not-libellous language throughout this.
We also only have what the mother said as proof. There has been no evidence at all. For all we know, the person is on OF and the mother assumes that means they must be into drugs too but no one actually knows that’s definitely true. And what’s become clear is how the story has basically been ‘someone’s mother has told us this about their child, now the BBC need to investigate’
She’s got her wish if HE is taken off air though.
