Am I the only one who thinks that it is weird to organise a wedding abroad and not pay for your guests?

In the Q&A on Instagram she said that her guests would have to pay for everything themselves. Which is incredibly odd because in a normal wedding, at least in my family, the accommodation is organised by the bride and groom. Usually people would rent rooms in the nearby hotels.

But it is odd to me that she has money for Birkin bags, designer clothes and what not but doesn't have money for her friends and family to see the celebration of her relationship with Marco.

If I was a family member or a friend I wouldn't go.
Maybe that's the reason why she might feel kinda chicken-ed out by the situation? Their family must be not that willing to shell some $$$ for a wedding abroad, since we Filipinos kinda are frugal with the money, especially older aunties and uncles. Maybe their families have older members which do not see the interest of destination weddings. Trust me, Filipinos tend to question couples, especially as big and extravagant as this one.

As @lookielurker have said Filipino weddings are being paid off by the couple themselves, sometimes parents pay for the catering or whatnot.

She was probably hoping that both their families are willing to shell out $$$ for their own expenses and to gift them something/ split costs with them. I guess no one seemed to be on board with their idea, so she must be stressing so much. But then again, isn't it Alyssa if she won't bite more than she can chew?

Hmm maybe? Can't remember who's fam member was (maybe AL) it that had a wedding at Shang in Boracay that they flew to go to. But that's in PH so makes sense to go there even with an extravagant expensive wedding.

You are maybe onto something @deadgirlinside.

If the families are not as loaded or if they planned on giving less than needed Alyssa would have to come back to reality and do it in the US.

Weddings don't even have to be that expensive. She could easily book an expensive restaurant or do it in a luxury hotel in the US.

If she starts her marriage on values that do not align with her husband or his family this could create problems.

Honestly, sometimes it's cheaper to do it on resorts here. They have a lot of all-inclusive packages here, it's hassle-free. Plus some flights can be bought as is- you save around 30-35%.

Yep, that's how Filipino families are. We are very sensible when it comes to money. Especially in very uncertain times like this. A lot of influencers and celebrities had destination microweddings in Mexico. There are a lot of beautiful venues in NY, NJ and neighboring states.

And yes, I think we would want to start a marriage on strong values. That's why people really wait for a long time to find someone to marry right?

TBH I've always liked Vrai (I like minimal / delicate jewelry and I know I'm in the minority, but I like the idea sustainable/lab grown diamonds). But it felt odd that Alyssa had a sponsorship with them for her engagement ring... they're affordable so I don't really see the reason why they needed the sponsorship, and it would have seemed like a more genuine love for the brand if it wasn't sponsored, of course.

LOL wait, I just saw her story from a couple hours ago.... she's out to eat at a restaurant and STILL watching a k-drama on their TV? :ROFLMAO: she definitely needs some hobbies
Oh for sure! I like Vrai rings too and I wouldn’t mind getting one of them! I think the rings are really pretty. From what we know of Alyssa though she’s very label obsessed and I think deep down anything not Cartier Tiffany or Harry Winston is not what she wants. I mean, any of you remember that she had an Apple Watch with a regular Apple strap and she HAD to upgrade to a Hermes strap just because it’s Hermes? And then where’s that watch now? Then now she wants a Cartier Tank watch? Okay hunny

Even tpf has been talking abt her for awhile now
Alyssa paid for only TWO of the Hermes bags. All the others came from resale sites that issued her a credit. If she had to put anything towards those bags, it was minimal. It’s the same with the Cartier Tank watch. She works with TRR and collected vouchers to get that watch.

I think Alyssa is the perfect example of what’s wrong with the YT/IG influencer but I do not think she’s going into debt. Do I think she’s saving? No. But like all other midrange influencers, 99% of the items she hauls are gifted. Sure she “shops” for them but again the money she puts towards them is minimal at most because she works with these brands and gets massive vouchers.

I’d say the ONLY items on your list that she actually had to pay full price for are the Dior Bobby she picked up in Paris and the two Hermes bags she bought in store. That’s it. The others were picked up for nothing or a very small fraction of the price.

You must be on to something! I actually didn’t think about them expecting their families/parents to help out with the wedding expenses. It’s possible this could be one of the reasons why. Plus, destination weddings in general are absolutely costly for guests.

And doesn’t she already have a gold Cartier Panthere watch? I read somewhere that she used her “stimmy” to help pay for the watch.

She used her stimmy money for another coffee maker too as if she didn't have 2 before the 3rd one 😂

The cartier watch that can barely breathe since they're so tight on her wrists 🥶🥶

If we're right about parents not wanting to pay for their wedding anymore and that's why she doesn't want the wedding...big yikes.

I can't believe anyone would rather have 4 Hermes bags plus 2 more more than a wedding to the person they've been with for 10 years (or however long it is). I'm Filipino, and I love luxury shopping, but I'd sell my bags to be able to treat my friends and family to a nice party to celebrate my partner and I. Or just actually learn to save up. I know another Filipino couple who also go hard on luxury items, but they didn't expect anyone to pay for their wedding.

I really have no idea what's going on Alyssa's head. She doesn't want the wedding anymore because she's either stressed over wedding planning, doesn't have the money to pay for it, or doesn't care about Marco that much? First of all, she shouldn't be stressed, she's not doing anything. Second, sell the bags you don't even use and you can afford a wedding, or at least learn to budget and scale back instead killing yourself to keep up appearances. And to the last point...that would be extra sad if true. For any and all the reasons, she should see a therapist.

She started seeing a therapist recently but so far all that came out of it is to take more breaks?? As if she her whole life hasn't been a break?? 🤔 more kdrama and slugging around the couch throughout the day lately than having a stricter work schedule and not working past 6 pm

Ever since they got engaged, she's mentioned they are planning on paying for the wedding themselves – and that's why they aren't paying for guests' travel and accommodations. I wonder if they lost some wedding sponsorships and that's why she's second guessing... I also know weddings can easily end up more expensive than you originally plan, so that + all the new Hermes must have set her back. IIRC she also said for at least one of her Hermes bags, she did receive some credit for the reseller in exchange for an ad, but had to pay for most of it, so I don't think she's received any Hermes bag for free.

Wow, I'm surprised to see a thread like this so I registered! About the wedding, I'm Filipino and my husband to be is American. Every culture is different. In the Philippines, it's typical for the couple or the family of the couple to pay for wedding expenses. For destination weddings, usually the couple aren't paying for travel expenses of the guests other than the venue and perhaps organize a few things here and there for the guests like shuttle, a rehearsal dinner, and arrange a hotel that will offer discounted rates if they block multiple rooms for the wedding. A destination wedding is meant to be intimate and obviously, you'd choose it if you think your closest friends and family can come. I won't expect presents though, them traveling is already a huge present.

For some weddings in Europe, not everyone is even invited to the reception but only during the ceremony so if you don't make it to the reception, you're probably not in the closest circle lol and I think that's fine. Between throwing a lavish wedding or buying designer stuff or not having a big party for everyone, at the end of the day, the wedding is about you and your partner and what you want. Everything else is just a plus. A few people care and the rest of the world are indifferent.

I hope she finds the peace she needs and not be intimidated by the demands of social media. Maybe she can start by saying "xx lent me this bag to try on and give reviews" because it's becoming obvious to most that she got a ton of deals for most of them and it's not really practical for her followers who are hoping to have a nicely picked collection of bags in the future. Anyway, her bag closet is a dream (except the hermes part) and I'm slowly building mine but more on the debt free side.

I want to share the story of my Filipino American friend. Her and her husband make close to $1 million a year. She has wealthy parents. She is 35 and in 2021 she finally bought her first Birkin. She said it is the only one she will ever get because these bags are too expensive, even for her. I'm sure she has the money to buy any Hermes bag but she is wise with her investment choices. That's why I'm just baffled when young YouTubers get 5 Hermes bags in one year.

I think she's realized that she made a huge mistake, and there's nothing wrong with backtracking where it snowballed, but she's overcompensating thing after thing.

Her feed is empty, beige-like, and it's lost its allure. Now it's just oversized coat after coat, $$$$ clothing after $$$$ clothing, her 'curated' 3rd-handbags from god knows what resellers they are.

Her career is the very definition of redundant.

Look at our frontliner workers, those parents trying to make ends meet everyday, those unemployed, those who lost their loved ones, they want a break.

This byotch took a month from filming, when your crappy camera's autofocus ain't doing it's job, then filming 50x and you have the nerve to complain?

If she wants high quality equipment, she should have just invested in those than her crappy resale bags. She should have set up Amazon aff links.

She really doesn't know what to prioritize.

Hermes bags first, everything else second (esp Marco + finances)

Unsure why she bought a $6000 Leica camera, when Leica is not known for their video. One Google search in and I found reviews about how poor the auto focus is. Why does she insist on hoarding expensive brand-name things she doesn't need and that serve no function for her? It's quite sad honestly...
