So Ali has got Kaelyn [?] The person who is doing a PhD in history at Oxford; she basically created the Accepted Society, well now she is working for Ali to create some digital thing and she is hoping to fund her PHD through this job.....makes me nervous she trusts Ali so much!
Kaelyn seems to be a very intelligent person but she often likes posts made by Vee Khativhu who is basically just so smug and travelling and giving speeches without any actual work experience in education policy, and she likes Ruby Granger's content despite Ruby being a problematic youtuber who looks like she's a hermit in her bedroom/library, and she seems to have been sucked into Ali Abdal's sphere when it's clear he's sold out on education and being a doctor to make some cash behind the guise of productivity. I'm disappointed because Kaelyn is clearly actually clever but she seems to idolise the scholarly-productivity Youtubers who all end up being fickle. It's a shame. I think the money that comes with being an influencer has gone to all their heads.

Going from listing Tinder Premium as an expense in your financial breakdown video and having your email open to wife applications to getting married in around 2 years is WILD

So one of her YouTube videos came up for me, took a look, she doesn't even pronounce his name correctly, and then calls him FRIEND lol

The whole interaction was just so cringe and awkward

Ali made a reacting to mean comments video and our comments are prominently featured.

Ali mentions self reflection, ayahuasca retreats, and more as a defense but.... from someone else who has been there I think in this video it is clear that there is so much spiritual growth left to do. I didn't find much meaningful engagement with what we were saying. I don't think Ali is superficial but it is clear he is more dissociated than he realizes he is.

I haven't seen Ali's videos in awhile so I looked back and did see some drift toward more mainstream wellness content so I think things are setting in, and of course it takes time for our brain to rewire toward the wholeness it is missing. I wish I could have a private conversation with him because my sense is that there is some rewiring that is happening that is simultaneously being stifled by the past ideological frameworks he promoted (and in many cases still promotes). Not from a condescending pov, but as someone who has broken free of the shackles of hustle culture and who finally feels like a life full of meaning is actually happening. I finally have a career I love, feel like a whole person rather than a content farm, and feel safe. Truly safe. I had mentors push me in that direction too and I bet there is more underneath the surface he isn't sharing (nor does he have to, as long as he no longer keeps promoting toxic frameworks for living).

I really hope you find the peace you deserve as a human being Ali and are able to break out of this cage you have put yourself in. It will take time but remember that we are dynamic human beings and that change is a beautiful thing. One essential part of change is accountability, and that is missing in this video. I hope you are able to reflect back on how the content you are growing your business on /does/ promote hustle culture, how this is a mindset that really hurts our humanity that you have promoted (but also been trapped by) and one day can apologize for having pushed it so hard without being defensive.

Accountability can sound like a scary word, like punishment. But it can be a beautiful thing and I hope you are able to find a way to make it a part of your growth process.

Also as a side note, I really don't feel like valid critiques on ideology are "mean." I don't critique his appearance or who he fundamentally is as a person. I critique the information he puts out into the world that influences people to do things that can harm them. For example my previous critique of him as a clout chaser when that IS the content he is putting out in the world... a promotion of going after metrics, wealth, etc while masking it under "doing what you love." It is interesting how the comment I wrote was used as a springboard to field critiques about the anime video (and strawmanning even that discussion - it is not about watching it at 4X speed, it is about the fact that you do not promote slowing down and just enjoying life and art as it is meant to be enjoyed without having it fit into a strange productivity framework), while skipping over the critique that he is regurgitating content that has been mainstream discourse for years now with not much addition. I still love @Hasanah123's comment about how his productivity is only for the privileged, and still see no interaction with that reality. I think deconstructing what was actually mean vs a valid reaction to content is another place to do some self-reflection around when undergoing some more sweet ego death.

I'll end it on a positive note. I am happy to see growth and really, your youtube videos are extremely aesthetically pleasing. I wish I could watch them. Maybe one day.

I have yet to see the full video (I'm at work) but I noted he pulled up one of my comments about teaching and refutes it by saying his guitar teacher is a teacher but doesn't have any teaching qualifications.

Being someone who plays an instrument myself I personally wouldn't pay good money for music lessons unless someone had either a teaching qualification (eg. they've done a music course and then a PGCE or similar), has relevant grades (eg grade 10 piano or whatever) or has an a established career as a touring or session musician - and even on the last one just because you're in a good band doesn't make you a good or effective music teacher.

The word you're looking for Ali is tutor or mentor or maybe instructor or coach (altho even a coach is a profession and you have to do qualifications to do proper coaching). A teacher is an actual career path who should have a deeper understanding of learning, development of their pupils and building courses and curriculums. What you're doing is the equivalent of reading a whole bunch of wikipedia pages on medical conditions and calling myself a Doctor in a SkillShare course. Prat.

I agree that he has a lot of extra spiritual growth to do. He has a successful money making business and he's newly married. Getting feedback and having a growth mindset is incredible important to one's personal development but it needs to be done from a place of self-honesty and wanting to grow, not looking up "hateful comments" from people and sneering at them and defending yourself.

Ironically, Kaelyn wants to do a video on toxic productivity while being lumped with this man.

Kaelyn is clever but she's fallen for the tech productivity and buzzwords. She calls herself a tech girlie now. I think down the line she's going to end up disappointed with Ali Abdaal and that job.

Skimmed through the video and it's weird because he thinks the one true life path right now is being a "creator" and sharing tips and teaching people online.

That just shows me how limited he is as a person and I think it's quite backed up by his podcast guests and people he appears to spend time with.

People's lives are not "limited" because they do not walk the lifestyle of being a Youtube (or "creator" ugh). People can live fulfilling lives doing anything. I don't create anything for the internet but I have a fulfilling job for me that involves solving lots of interesting problems for my client every day. Other people are fulfilled by caring for others or by doing something like raising children or looking after animals. Society wouldn't function without people like that and a lot of us like the routine and rhythm of our lives and don't want to escape into becoming an "digital nomad" or building a capitalist business.

We don't want to become YouTubers and "creators" Ali, and that doesn't make you any better than you.

Ironically he's trying to appear open minded but continues to sell his own courses and life style to everyone else refusing to see any paths beyond his own.

So he has moved to Hong Kong. He already seems to be unsettled even though he repeated a number of times in his video today how he loves a boring life.

I imagine he must be very difficult to live with. So much navel gazing.

It’s all about ticking boxes, nothing about actually wanting a child he probably has it on a productivity planner somewhere
