Well whenever I have visited, I always see mainly children, but not exclusively, manhandling the pastries. You could not pay me to eat them.

also the crumpets I had from there were inedible, tasted soapy
When I've visited there's been other customers already there - birds and flies!

I'm from Germany.
In Austria, Aldi is called Hofer for some reason.

I suppose I won't bother with the scones and instead try and find a good recipe online to make them at home.
Delia Smith's recipe is less bready and more melt in the mouth. Can also be frozen and are just as good when unearthed from the freezer a year later.
Might be the buttermilk in it that does it.🤔😋

I've made Hugh Fearnley-Whittenhairspunky's scones too and they're very nice, Made with double cream rather than buttermilk.

I told off a woman in my local Lidl once because I noticed that she had let her toddler pick up a baguette and drop it on the floor and then the woman picked it up and put it back on the shelf 😯
I said "Oy! You can't put that back, you need to buy it now you've touched it and it's been on the floor" 🙄
She looked shocked but she put the baguette in her basket 😅

The mothers couldn’t care less. I told the staff, they weren’t interested.

I work in another supermarket and I see so many kids rubbing their hands on food in the hot counter display to warm their hands (parents are next to them not minding) or fondling the loose fruit and veg. Ive seen the odd fly on our Lidl bakery shelves but thats to be expected with uncovered foods. It does make you think twice about buying loose uncovered things in shops.

Thank you! 🥰

Question, dear British tattlers: We don't have clotted cream here, would it be very blasphemic to put butter on scones? 🤔

Buttered scones are lovely, as they are with whipped cream if you don’t have clotted.

I think you can make clotted cream at home if you are curious / dedicated / time rich. The canny Cornish dairy farmer we used to stay with when I was a kiddy made his own clotted cream in the oven, to flog to the grockles (us). Proper crusty top but frankly tasted like cowshed. Too close to the source 🤨

Make sure the butter is a little soft as it tends to pull the scones apart if it is hard. Know from experience.

Has anyone tried the Lidl gin? I'm not a gin drinker but my sister has asked for a nice bottle of gin for her birthday. The Japanese blossom one in Lidl looks different but is it any good?!

I’m not a fan of Aldi and Lidl flavoured gins. I’ve had the blossom one and it wasn’t for me. The flavours are too strident.
I prefer to take a cheap bottle and add my own fruit and a bit of sugar to it and leave it to macerate for a few weeks.

Some of my favourite Gin is from Lidl. The rhubarb & ginger one is divine and I have missed seeing it in store. I've also tried a few other flavours and they've been decent so I'd say go for it.

I'm disappointed with the Bilash stuff this time around, it's not as good as I remember it being

We had Chicken Rogan Josh and Lamb Dhansak. Much better than other supermarket offers. The Mixed grill was a disappointment wouldn’t get it again. Naan’s and poppadoms were good.

They were all half price in our local Aldi. I think the Bom Bahia range in Asda is equally as good although they seem to have stopped doing the Black Lentil Dhal which was amazing. One of the food bloggers on Youtube (Who introduced me to Bon Bahia) did a blog a few days ago and said the Iceland Luxury Red Thai curry was the best he had ever had
