Aldi & Lidl #8

I saw one of the “Mummy Influencers” went to the Aldi Christmas event & they have a Whispering Angel dupe coming out which I am very excited to try. I didn’t catch the name from the quick clip but it will be easy to spot as in true Aldi style, the label is almost identical & no doubt it will have a name like Shouting Cherub.

I got the walking pad. I haven't unpacked it yet as my exercise for yesterday was getting in my trolley, out of the supermarket, in the car, out of the car and in my house.

We get "Taste of the Alps" which sometimes also has "Taste of North Germany" items too. It's my favourite! I'm curious to know what you get for the British week, as I'm pretty sure most of the Alpine stuff isn't super authentic.

Fish and chips, salt and vinegar crisps, shortbread, winegums, marmalade, lemon curd, whiskey, scones (or was that Aldi , they have British week as well sometimes). I feel like there's more but can’t remember what.

We get something like taste of the alps as well, called Alpenfest (Alp fest) usually around the time of Oktoberfest. If it's the same stuff they sell here it's pretty authentic!

I use my Lidl Plus to basically run my life.
I use the shopping list part for all sorts of lists - food, non food, things I have to do, things I have to think about etc etc.

Nor me and I don’t really care. Dubai anything doesn’t scream aspirational to me. I like pistachio but the chocolate bars I’ve seen appear to have cheap milk choc around the pistachio bit which looks disgusting to me.

I absolutely love anything pistachio, and did long before it became popular (cheers M&S), but the whole "Dubai" thing really puts me off.

Well I have acquired one of the dubai bars. There was a woman who got there before me and she emptied an entire box! Must have grabbed at least 10 bars and hid them in the buggy she was pushing. And then whilst I was in the self checkout queue behind her she was sneaking some into her pockets. It’s just madness. People were going to the till with loads of bars and a member of staff was taking them away and only letting people purchase 1 or 2.

I haven’t even tried it yet but surely even the most delicious chocolate in the world would not warrant this behaviour!

I went to the Aldi in the O2 centre, awful branch layout, and found these in the Christmas section. It's probably just as well they're not nearby to me or I'd have to dig out the bigger clothes that were put away 🫣

Re- The £29.99 Daewoo halogen/air fryer from Lidl.
It works well, it's huge, easy to clean, it cooks evenly, could do a family meal in this no problem & get a Sun Tan at the same time.

It gets seriously hot, it can't be used under a cupboard/shelf unit.
But it comes with all the extras to avoid getting burnt fingers.
A bargain.

So we just got back from holidays, and my dad kindly did the weekly shop for us so we didn't come home to an empty fridge. Obviously I'm very thankful for that. I couldn't help but notice though that the expensive apples he bought are nowhere near as nice as the cheap Lidl ones I usually buy! Just goes to show that Lidl fruit and veg really are superior (imo)

Interested in what you find better about lidl? I find that in terms of the usual stuff they have aldi and lidl have pretty much the same things. Some stuff is slightly better in aldi, some stuff slightly better in lidl but the difference is negligible really. Aldi for me has better special buys and lidl have more variety in terms of the special food from other countries etc although I've noticed aldi are starting to do those a bit more.

I really hate the lidl near me, always messy and no self service checkout, the queue always takes ages

The lidl nearest to me in Dublin city centre is what I'd call "Ghetto Lidl". (Moore Street if any Dubs here )

That made me laugh but there were 2 of them back to back who were big 40's and I was the older person. I would have done it for 1 but honestly they were guarding the doors. I do ask people, nicely, to move if they are blocking the fridges but these 2 were not to be messed with.

The new fridges that open outwards are a pain aren’t they? They do make an unnecessary queing situation down the aisle!

I keep seeing the Aldi dupes of Baileys.. Now Im very common and never had a Baileys before I tried a Pina Colada for the first time this year and its was awful and I had to waste it - apart from the one sip I had! As im not a fan of milky/creamy drinks is it a No? I dont want to buy one and hate it and then no one drinks it!
Im much more a cocktail/vodka girl!

If you don’t like milky or creamy drinks then it’s definitely not for you. Baileys to me is just boozy milk

The thing I hate about Aldi is they only stock things for a short amount of time, I will find something I like then I won’t see it again
