It wouldn’t surprise me if the US/western forces supported the Taliban in their fight against ISIS-K. The enemy of my enemy is my friend sort of thing.
It's sort of ironic given that China and Russia were slated for trying to buddy up with the Taliban

Not really the same situation, but it's signalling a certain level of support to the Taliban at the same time

Are the US really threatening Isis-K?

I know it's not really ideal, but what else can they do other than just leave Afghanistan? Any fight against Isis-K will now be funding/helping the Taliban
Here we bleeping go again…… we couldn’t stop a bomb with a days notice. How does he think the us military will fair with two groups after them and no clue where Isis k really are. And he’s just given them a head start.
20years almost since 9/11 and it’s all starting again

They've done this kind of thing so many times in the past that it would be more surprising if they didn't.

sky news:
“Let’s turn now to covid......”

what we wouldn’t give to be making fun of Trump for his pronunciation of the “chhina virus”
the good old days.

(not a trump fan, but simpler times and all that 😬)

Edit, looks like another US solider who was injured earlier has died.

Controversial but I can't wait for the news to focus on something else for a while. Ignorance is bliss and all that

I don’t get how the British Government has given the Afghans who work with Pen Farthing permission to board a flight and come here but Joe Biden has changed his policy and therefore they will be stranded in Afghanistan.
What the F Joe?!

Honest question as I’m late to this story- why would Pen’s staff be eligible to leave Afghanistan ahead of any other local? Is there a specific reason to differentiate them from other Afghans and which would justify them leaving?

As far as I understand they have been given the ok by the British government. My issue is with a foreign government (US) changing the goal posts which goes against what has been agreed.

They started requiring Afghan nationals to have a passport and a visa. Pen’s staff only had visas. I wonder if this also somehow affects those who were on priority lists

I think it was probably done to reduce the number of people who were at the gates (some are bound to leave surely) and actually able to be processed in general. It’s going to look bad once they move out fully and people are still waiting outside of the gates, plus the story can be changed to those people not ‘qualifying’ for help because they don’t have the right documents (bonus points if they play into security issues) rather than simply being left behind despite sort of being promised help

I do hope the media pick up on this a bit. I know that someone is meant to have control on what’s happening at the airport and how things work, but the fact that it appears to be only the US is not fair on other countries and their evacuation plans

Biden will do precisely nothing. That is the reason he was elected.
He has to wait till the boss woman returns from asia/vietnam/wherever before any coherent words are permitted from his mouth.
I can't help but wonder if his boss lady and her cohorts are letting him make a fool of himself so that it becomes evident he needs tucked away somewhere safe so she can take the reins. As was the plan all along if we're being honest. God Bless America.
I usually take the piss out of sparkles markle with these face-swaps ... but after recent events I'll make an exception.

The afghan national airline evacuated their fleet of planes yesterday - no doubt empty - to Iran for safety. What does that say?

They’re not simply put. And I know people think I’m harsh with this, but the goalposts are the same for any afghan wanting to leave, they weren’t changed for this case or anything, they were suddenly changed for them all.
I disagree with the changing of the goalposts however, and I think the US hs maybe done it so that when the republicans kick off there’s not too many refugees in ‘Merica without ID (even though the most some hold is a driving license 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️) The system for getting ID in Afghanistan sounded complicated too that most wouldn’t have anything, and the passport office couldn’t issue enough passports.
But tbh, reading between things, I can’t believe pen didn’t help sort his staff with passports tbh, even before this started, not all, but surely people like his vets have had them for travelling and resettling animals abroad.

personally, the main people for me for Britain to get out now are the people who worked for them- especially if we are breaching gdpr and putting people at risk. Rush or no rush, I expect that the info about all the British workers was securely destroyed as first priority. I felt quite sick reading this if I’m honest.

I can imagine they are going to sell them on, there’s no need for them now, and I wouldn’t take any risk of letting any other group getting near them, can you imagine….. and if the airline has to close then at least there’s some money in the pot.
they might have offered them to be fair to the rescue attempt but again, flying loads out on an Afghan plane, it’s a clear target isnt it. Where as shot at empty, it sounds awful, but it’s just the brave pilots.

The U.K needs to leave the USA totally to its self in the future. Why should people from this country be getting killed and its cost us billions when it all had nothing to do with us?
What's going to happen to that Pen guy if he cant get out? He doesn't want to be stuck there for the rest of his life.
I personally think the dogs and cats will be O.K the Taliban have more to concentrate on than pets.

We worry about Isis in Afghanistan, but we let a bunch of the people back into this country apparently. We don't need to worry about them coming from abroad, they are already here! 😳🙄

Many people are not going to stomach more waves of mass attacks occurring over here.

If the Government are incompetent enough not to say No to certain people, plus properly check whom is coming here, then they deserve all the criticism they get.

I live in the area where three people were killed last year, in what was classed as a terrorist attack. Three people sitting in a park, minding their own business, when they were slaughtered by someone we allowed to come here and claim asylum, be funded by us and repaid in this way.

We need to start refusing entry to, and kicking out (without endless appeals) the trouble makers and those that wish others harm.

He did an interview awhile back and said they were used for target practice.

The problem is we never do. The man who stabbed those two graduates was deemed a risk but was left to his own devices. He was given rehabilitation and the chance of a new life and stabbed the very people who wanted to help him.
This government was meant to be tough on immigration but they aren’t. I doubt the Labour Party will either. There was someone who was evacuated from Afghanistan who was on the U.K. no fly list but got taken off it.
There’s areas in the country that are not safe for anyone that isn’t from that culture to walk around. There are people here who have spoken about how they want to harm us and nothing is done. It feels like it’s all a lost cause.

Harsh but tbh I just don’t get on what basis Afghans (or Nowzad employees) are allowed to leave. I mean they’re practically all at risk of a terrifying regime so the whole population is eligible to emigrate surely 🤷‍♀️ Not sure why the Nozwad employees would get priority, but maybe I’m missing something. I feel so sorry for the Afghans who want to leave, they must feel helpless.

Also would have thought everyone would get a passport months ago if they possibly could, preparing for potential disruption and crisis situations, but maybe that’s not how it operates there?
