Pen should leave, if he has a chance. He’s extra military so is a walking target for the Taliban and ISIS-K. I hoped for better news but it seems that it’s game over now.

I wonder if the handling of the Pen case with effect Ben Wallace’s career?
Look, I know this is an emotional thing, but can I just share this. If we are talking about the handling of the case we can’t just focus on one thing, we need to remember these people too, those who helped us. They can’t get out like he can attempt to, they just have to survive it as long as they can. My sympathies are with pen of course, but they are also with these people.

I've just watched this on Twitter (I hope the link works!)

Watch here
Thing is that a lot of the equipment (especially air based) will require training that the Taliban likely do not have, so a lot of it is useless

I do wonder if they could manage to sell it on to other countries though. I reckon it would go for some good money

Daaaamn, they ducked up big time! I bet it will be buried though and newspapers won’t report on it.

No one has said there isn’t? I’ve not said that only Pen needs help or forgotten that we have majorly let down every Afghan who put their life on the line for us.

I don't disagree. I've read reports that a lot of the vehicles/helicopters etc are redundant as they don't have the engineers or knowledge to operate them - however, the fact it's all just been abandoned and a lot of the equipment can be used is just terrifying.

No, but to be fair that has been the focus of a lot of post today, and people have been saying the def sec should go for it etc. And whilst it’s not one or the other, it does feel like the people we wanted to help are being left behind.

But with whag you said above this, I agree, there will be so much stuff hidden after this….

What an earth has gone on for this to have happened.

I'm appalled at the way this has gone down. I value every life lost during this awful few weeks but sadly I don't think it'll be long before we lose British personnel down to this madness.

I fear there could be a military disaster at Kabul airport for US/UK forces if ISIS-K make it too hot for flights to get in and out. It's getting increasingly scary watching those transport planes crawling over built up areas at low altitude.

I guess they're just hoping and praying they don't have proper access to anything that can take the planes down.

The pentagon has said that they have processed over 104,000+ people through the airport. The suicide bomber at the gate was being searched.

Here is an approximate breakdown by country

In a letter, the Dutch government said: "The Netherlands has been informed by the United States that it has to depart today and will most likely perform the last flights later today."
honestly I really hope that this has a lasting impact on US on the international stage. There’s probably a lot of people affected by US calling the shots at the airport in general

More explosions apparently and I unfortunately came across a video on twitter just now, taken right after the first bomb, there are definitely more than 60 poor innocent civilians killed, many were thrown into water. Horrible to see but nothing compared to what they are all going through.

Heartbroken for Pen and the Nowzad team, I think we will soon be getting an update that they have euthanised their animals. I don't really know where Pen can go now because it is unlikely he would make it to and inside the airport safely.

My heart goes out to the families of the US military troops who have been killed, Nowzad and their animals and the poor civilians who have nowhere to go and are easy targets whilst they are just trying to escape for a better life.

Some of the videos on Twitter of Afghan casualties are horrible

Its honestly shameful that the news is primarily mentioning the US military casualties

Yeah I saw his interview on BBC  I just meant that he is unlikely to make it back to the airport now with all the unrest. His staff are telling him to go but we will see what he decides.

Totally agree.
