Biden is a joke and can be held FULLY responsible for what has now occurred in Afghanistan.
Several places I've heard that there were only 8'000 troops still there. Seems like such small change and would have saved money keeping them there for years/decades to come to keep things contained for longer as apposed to the emergency stuff happening now.

I wonder how he'll deflect, blame the Afghan army?

There’s tons of places on here that doesn’t have a liberal viewpoint.
Yeah, looks like someone bitter trolling.

Trump was the one who pulled troops. It was agreed for May, Biden is staying true to a deal already made, not that I agree with how it’s been done, but the Afghan government and troops didn’t seem to put up much of a fight to defend themselve either.

anyone believing an ounce of what the Taliban are promising is a fool. 😕

I think for anyone to move country into an entirely different culture is a huge deal. They have been taught and surrounded by a particular environment of what is seen as appropriate for their native and unique upbringing. I understand what you’re saying and agree it’s unacceptable how the police handled those situations it’s appalling, however I also think these people come with a lot of baggage so it’s not as simple as learning the language and learning to integrate. They come with the trauma and post traumatic stress of fleeing a war zone. The men are brought up believing that women are second to them. They may not even read or write in their own language so to learn another is a huge ask. I think on the basis it’s pot luck of where you’re born we all need to be kind and welcoming to everyone who requires help whether they’re a refugee or a British born single mum with no income etc it should be done on a priority basis IMO. Fleeing a war zone trumps overcrowding and unemployed. We can’t be all things to all people obviously but we can try. I think there needs to be a better programme for helping refugees integrate into society, but we simply don’t have the resources or funding to do so and that’s why things do end up in such a mess! It should be encouraged that those seeking asylum do become familiar with appropriate behaviour. I guess in their country because it’s almost normal (tragically) that women are abused and raped that’s why they think it’s what they do. I’m not justifying it whatsoever I’m just trying to understand where their thought process could be at.
Coming from a war zone is not an excuse for commiting crime. There are people out there with mental illness who commit crime, however mental illness is not a 'get out of jail free' card, if they commit a serious crime.

I also disagree that 'those fleeing war zones, trump overcrowding and unemployment'. As I previously said there is an absolute limit to how many can be helped within the UK - yet some still don't seem to understand this. The UK cannot house and financially support every single person fleeing war torn locations.

The only way the West seems to know how to do anything is by funnelling money and introducing puppet governments

it was never going to work there but at least the leaders can deflect blame elsewhere

Awful situation, and the timing is especially significant with the 20 year anniversary of 9/11 looming large. So depressing to revert back to this after all the efforts of the past 2 decades.

It was depressing to read about that 5 year old who died after falling from the hotel in Sheffield. They were a family from Afghanistan who had recently arrived. That really is sad.

I don't think anybody knows what the hell is going on there any more; They're all barking mad - all of them.

I think the taliban lot are trying to make themselves out as a proper govt, the face of the new Afghanistan rather than terrorists they used to be, so this new lot muscling in to commit atrocities is not going to be accepted readily by them.

What I've been saying in this very thread several times ... was always about limited flight slots, apron space, fuel, ground crew, and a whole list of other things that are in short supply. Great that he and his menagerie of stray animals are out but I'm still pretty angry about the people and children that weren't lucky enough to have the twitter warriors and celebrities shouting on their behalf, so didn't get these resources spent on them, and will now be abandoned to face the bloodbath.

Fairly shameful priorities tbh. And it doesn't even scratch the surface of all the other stray animals that roam the streets over there so really what was the point?

The number of people that the gov and military have managed to get out to safety is actually an amazing achievement, but if they hadn't had to spend so much time and resource dealing with Paul Farthing it might have been a couple of planes more. So whatever he ends up doing with the menagerie of rescued animals next had better be bloody worthwhile.
There’s been a few of us who have all said that. It’s like idea that Ben Wallace was saying they were pushing in. He wasn’t. But why he was technically saying was that he couldn’t let Pens people go ahead of people who were already processed. Which was true, he fast tracked their stuff and being with him would have got them ahead of people queuing outside, dolled up with a going by a private plane.
the problem is, people commenting on this probably don’t have a clue about the logistics, they probably have enough on going to sodding tesco!
And putting crates on a plane takes more time, people can walk. I saw the car argument a few times, a car takes 20 seconds to get up on a plane. You can’t load 50 dogs in that time, and anyone with a heart would take time to ensure the animals aren’t traumatised.
I saw one woman in Twitter telling the American women to ‘tell’ the army they were going. It’s not like the local cafe woman were you can shout at the young lass serving to get what you want. It’s the military…..

it’s the one thing I hate about social media, anyone can have an opinion about anything, and whilst I don’t think opinions are for the rich and educated, there’s time it’s better not to offer one. Especially when people there are saying they feel like their child isn’t worth the same as a rescue dog 😞 I can’t imagine how it must be to even think that

Strictly, perhaps? I'm a Celeb?

It's like someone turning up at the Panama Canal in their private yacht and moaning because the officials won't let them through. Why can't the registered tankers with their paperwork and allocated slots wait? 🙄
Next it will be that his wife can’t get over with immigration regulations and want a special bypass for her because we did it for Afghan people. He seems a kind bloke for animals, but I get the feeling he is a typical white middle class bloke and he will get what he wants when he wants it

I think it is hard to generalise.

Some people are big animal lovers and don't like people as much, maybe because of bad experiences.
Some people want to put people first and don't think that animals have the same standard.
Most people are probably sympathetic to both people and animals.
I think quite a lot of people are total hypocrites; they want cheap meat as long as they don't see how it was raised but want cute animals protected.

This thread is so interesting. Especially now that Pen Farthing fella has piped down. I genuinely think reading here makes me more informed (whilst keeping a critical mind of course) 😉

thanks guys! Genuinely, such a good education (this sounds insincere but I mean it!)

'Biden to speak amid near universal criticism of U.S policy.'

A bit late for that now. The damage has been done. The Biden PR machine is now in overdrive, trying to downplay his utter stupidity.

Not sure what he is hoping to achieve, other than come across as an even bigger idiot, than he has already shown he is.

Trump would have definitely fucked it up, but I do think it would have played out quite differently.

75% ish of people wanted out of Afghanistan, but not at the cost of more lives, highlighting the states diminishing power, people stranded and facing being hunted, more expense and so on. This pull out might have cost way more than being there for another 20 years with limited people there. Not to mention that this time of year is the worst to pull out as it's at the peak of seasonal fighting.

I think trump would have done a 360 - sent people back in to secure Kabul, the huge base there and the root to Pakistan. But we'll never know.

They literally have thousands of hostages now.
It's difficult to say (and really a waste of time now anyway, what's done is done).

Fundamentally you might say that Trump's deal with the Taliban was a bad idea, because it let a load of them out of the jails, also should never negotiate with terrorists etc. However that very same Trump deal with the taliban is precisely why we've had these last few weeks to get on and do the mass evacuation in (relative) calm (except for the separate Isis-K lot causing the trouble yesterday) rather than a full-on instant warzone, and has meant that loads of countries have each been able to get tens of thousands of citizens out safely. So Trump probably deserves credit overall for that deal strategy?

But who knows really. Trump said he would get out by May, Biden extended things to now. Trump probably would have kept the bigger and better Bagram open as an alternative airfield, Biden just binned that off and totally abandoned it without really telling anyone in July, forcing everything to go through the Hamid Karzai airport. Trump's withdrawal might have been faster but more orderly, Biden's has been chaotic and stuck two fingers up at other countries needing the airport as well. We'll never know.

Twenty years training. Billions spent on planes, tanks, equipment etc. It's more than long enough to train up a capable army of say a million to protect themselves. We cannot keep spending cash we don't have to piss off other cultures by trying to police the world.
You clearly don’t have a clue the type of training they had or about anything you’re talking about. Your claims are so beyond wild it’s obvious you don’t know any of the detail in it all.

The final flight bringing UK military out of Kabul has now departed. I presume that means all the diplomatic staff are out too.

Wonderful news. So proud of them all. So glad they got out safely and were able to help so many thousands out first as well.

Not many seem to believe this guff from Biden

Any actual names or proof Joe?
And if you have found him so easily today why didn't you do anything about him earlier?

But most importantly WTF would you risk antagonising the ISIS-K lot into more retaliation in the next couple of days when troops are leaving, and not send the drone to get the guy next Wednesday or so once we're not still trying to fly the last thousands of people out?

He's absolutely insane.

I was listening to a discussion on the radio and one advocate was saying refugees coming to the UK need mental health treatment once here 🤐
Erm there's a mental health crisis and a severe lack of resources for the population already which has been exacerbated even more with the effect of lockdowns.
Quite rightly many British people see people they know not getting the help they need, waiting years for housing, using food banks, isolating and of course the many homeless which has been a problem since the end of WW2! that's nearly 75 yrs! and someone who has never contributed anything to the UK gets brought over and is given everything.
It has a knock on effect such as more unwanted green impositions all because there are too many people.

Just caught the footage of the Afghan lady handing over her 2 yr old daughter to the US soldiers on BBC News.
That's heartbreaking
