Two reasons, not necessarily obvious - as noted above, firstly better to help people without having to relocate them, and secondly on the financial side, it's actually cheaper in the long run.
Thanks Doc 👍 & Yel, appreciate that!

This thread is so interesting. Especially now that Pen Farthing fella has piped down. I genuinely think reading here makes me more informed (whilst keeping a critical mind of course) 😉

thanks guys! Genuinely, such a good education (this sounds insincere but I mean it!)

TRIGGER WARNING.

I really don’t have a huge problem with refugees, some good and some bad like everywhere on the planet. I know of a guy, he is Syrian…the Syrian army broke into his home and r@ped and shot his sister in front of him. It was then him and his dad decided to leave the country (his mum wasnt alive anymore unfortunately), he now lives in the UK (his dad has since died) and he is one of the kindest people. His since came out as gay, his also very disabled now too…he wouldn’t have stood a chance in Syria. He lives a very lonely life with no family, a refugees life is very very hard and challenging. His plagued with PTSD, the sound of a plane triggers him along with lots of other triggers. I wonder how many others have a story like that, but isn’t heard of because not a lot of people take the time to know them as a person just just labels them.

This is from a few days ago

There does appear to be some videos from the protest though, but they may be outside Kabul

Ooh that nice Mr Blair did a speech, how lovely of him! Live on telly (on for background, turned to look when I felt the bile rising in response to hearing that voice).
I don't have a transcript but it went something like '"if we made no difference and it's no better than when we first invaded then technically we didn't make things worse" and 'not my job' and 'Look! Over there!'.

Hmmm. I wonder which half of the newly segregated higher education system will receive the vast majority of the funding from the Taliban. A puzzler.

And a “review of subjects taught”. Qu’aranic studies only perhaps?

And the Ministry of Vice and Virtue? Nope that’s not in the least bit ominous. No siree.

The ministry of grace that doesn't forgive”

I can’t believe there’s not more of an uproar about the drone strike. They tried to say they killed one of the suicide bombers but it was in fact an aid worker and seven children.

I think it’s partly because the news of that came out very soon after the drone strike (or on the same day even) as some journalists talked to the family affected. People were angry, then the NA times investigation came out (which simply confirmed what people had already been angry about) and it took the US officials a while to admit that it was true and a mistake, but by then everyone had been angry about the whole thing already and moved on from Afghanistan

There is a video on twitter of Taliban flogging a teenage boy it’s horrific the boy just stands there whilst grown vile barbaric guys take turns to flog him blood begins to pour through the arms of his clothes . It’s haunting he doesn’t flinch or cry as though he’s to scared to . I don’t know what the answer is , but how can this be allowed to carry on , Biden et al have a lot to answer for 😓😡

I have stayed in this hotel before and my God let me say have these people not been through enough without being put in the worst hotel I have ever been in. It was only around £25 a night on a special deal when I went less than a decade ago but some of these spend hundred quid a night. The reviews on Trip Advisor mention how badly behaved the refugees are. Begging for a cig in the smoking area, kids pressing the lift buttons, kids running around shouting not under control etc. The goodwill to these people will soon disappear if they don't respect their surroundings when people spend a lot of money to go on holiday there and deserve peace and quiet.

I saw a few interviews a week again and I can’t for the life of me remember where (if I do I’ll add the links) but they were talking to interpreters for the British Army but they had such a poor grasp of English. Which I’m confused about because if you’re an interpreter you need to be able to speak both languages well enough surely?
